Super attentive, helped us learn the simulator quickly and were just fun to talk with through the round.

GOLFTEC Novi - GolfTEC Swing Analysis

I spent the winter developing a swing…read more I was already a decent golfer. I'd broken 40 in league on occasion. Even stung two together and broke 80 at Fox Hills once. But in 50 years of golf I could never draw the ball. Everything sort of faded right (except for the occasional dead pull). I always wanted to shape the ball. Hit that nice high draw. How nice it would be to have that weapon in the bag? So I signed up for 15 lessons, a swing evaluation and 6 months of simulator time. It cost what you'd expect to pay for 16 lessons. The things I didn't know about the golf swing! Here I was concerned my coach was so young I had clubs older than he was. How could I possibly need that many lessons? Turns out I needed that many lessons because that's how many I could fit in before league started. This is a gym with a personal trainer. You need to show up consistently train your mussel memory and develop a proper swing. Your coach has cameras and swing statistics on a computer telling him how every element is moving in space throughout the entire swing. That's the easy part. His experience, training, resources allow him to provide the feedback and encouragement you need to actually see progress. Well I'm happy to report it was well worth the time and money. My entire swing has changed. I've learned to draw the ball, but I can also fade the ball when I choose to. But mostly I just bomb it straight down the fairway. It's not perfect and my scoring hasn't changed THAT much. It's just way more consistent. So there it is, you get what you pay for. A life long skill that will greatly improve your enjoyment of a game you're gonna play for years. Years from now you'll think it was cheap.

Went for a full bag fitting that costs $250; supposed to be driver through putter. Was excited to…read moretry it out, verify my clubs were right for me, maybe sample some other brands, have a whole epiphany type experience. Welp, turns out cause I'm a lefty, they don't carry much in stock for us wrong side of the tee hitters, which could have been disclosed ahead of time, thus making me go elsewhere that better suits my requirements but then they'd be out of money so, yeah. Also, they only really carry what they sell so no Hogans, no Muira, Honma, no PXG. So only the big name brands that they know most people will buy, which sucks. That being said, my fitting was limited to Taylormade and Callaway drivers (they also don't carry Cobra, which is what I play now) and none of those really panned out better than what I already have. So there were no real comparable offerings to let me try, cause they didn't have any. I will say, I do appreciate not being pushed into something either so that's a positive. Irons I only was given Titleist, Mizunos & Callaway to try out. Again, not a plethora to choose from but once again, my current irons were fine for me based on the numbers gained off of the simulator. Fine. Still didn't satiate my palate for wondering what else is out there and is there something better suited to my style of play. Wasn't going to find out. Other than that, I hit two other 4 hybrids and that was it. No time for putter, no wedges available for me to try... and yet I still paid for a FULL BAG FITTING. Seems to me I got ripped off. I had a hard time handing over the cash as I didn't get what was promised. Don't think I'm going back any time soon.

I love oasis, go here all the time! Just have to wait up to an hour sometimes when you're already there and can't go in your car since you have to wait to hear your name. Still a great time !

This is a great place to swing a golf club in a Michigan winter…read more The prices are quite reasonable (given what must be the costs of inflating, powering, and heating an air-supported dome for a season.) The prices are shown on their website and include "senior discounts." This is also the reason (I am sure) that it is a very busy place on a weekday morning. Great staff and location next to a restaurant and a seasonable carnival-like facility that includes mini-golf. Lastly, I believe that the dome is deflated in the warmer months and the tee lines become part of the remaining driving range. (Check out satellite photos on Google earth or maps to see what I mean) My only non-positive comment is that the artificial turf putting "green" in the dome interior has some weird slopes that one would never find on an actual putting green. I found it to make for a difficult and productive practice session with my putter. And, although the place is equipped with the Top-Tracer computer simulation system, I am not sure if it is exactly accurate given the probable issue of being in the interior dome. BUT - it was worth the 1-hour and 45-minute drive for me to go over for the morning given the snow on the ground outside!! Heh, I am retired! What else do I have to do?!?!? *laughter*

We stopped by here with my FIL to help him find some golf shoes for his upcoming game with his golf…read more league. A good selection of golf shoes and some even on discount. Needed something to accommodate my FIL's higher instep. Wider shoes tend to be more comfy for him. It's the arch opening that's key, makes my FIL's foot feel cramped. My FIL was able to find a few options to pick from in the end. Was able to get at least one golf shoe on discount today. Will keep looking for a full price shoe too. The staffer helping with our dad's shoes was quick and efficient and helpful too. Found a pair of blue new balance that fit my FIL well and gray Sketchers too. Went with the gray sketchers and blue New balances too, since the canvas Addidas will get dirty quickly. My FIL also looked at some driver's too. He had to hand his driver's license to hit at the range with some different woods and drivers. I don't get why there is a random shark head by the irons and woods in the store though. Tried a senior select flex shaft Calloway and my FIL liked how it hit too. Ended up with two golf shoes for $201+, not too bad. He should be set for the season.

I ordered 3 custom wedges from Carl's Golfland with clearly listed specs in the notes. I even…read moreordered them knowing they were on backorder, so I was already being patient. What I didn't expect was having to follow up just to let them know the clubs came wrong. Their fix? Send me two more wedges... still wrong. From there it turned into a complete mess. THREE different employees got involved, and somehow each handoff made things worse. One reorders, another takes over with zero context, clearly never read the emails or documentation I already sent, and just keeps things moving knowing the clubs were already wrong. No communication, no ownership--just a cycle of confusion. Then they tell me to measure the clubs myself. That's where it really went downhill. I'm paying for custom-built clubs, and now I'm doing their quality control? So I did. I confirmed specs with TaylorMade and even paid a shop to measure everything. Taylor made even said they ordered them wrong. Specs should be true online even if it's a custom standard stock spec. While they said they talked with them. Not a single club was correct. After all that, the manager's solution is basically: send them back. No urgency. No accountability. No real apology. They tell me on the phone they have good customer relationship with TaylorMade. So what was hard to get it right the second time around. Here's what their mistake cost me: * 2 months of credit card interest * Gas running around fixing quality control their problem * Paying out of pocket to verify specs * Hours of wasted time I ordered these ahead of an international trip so I could practice. Now I have no time left and nothing usable because they couldn't get a basic order right. Meanwhile, I placed a similar order through PGA Tour Superstore--they got it right the first time and shipped fast. That's how it's supposed to work. So I can't blame TaylorMade because seems like they are doing their job right. If they get the order right with pga superstore and shipped it to me from their manufacturing facility. Seems like they're not the problem. And just to top it off--I also ordered an iron set from Carl's a while back. At this point, I'll probably have to get those checked too, because based on this experience, I wouldn't be surprised if they messed that up as well. Bottom line: If you're ordering anything custom, avoid Carl's Golfland. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. Not worth talking to people who can't even do their job ordering without cross referencing manufacture specs. Like McDonald's gets my order partially correct. Not completely wrong. But still have the time to take care of customer's complaint. So who knows when my refund will be issued with compensation. This company just another company willing to take peoples money. We all know golf profit margins around 20-40%. I would never walk in there store or facility. Or even buy online from them again.
