PRE-PAID FUEL IS A MONEY GRABBING SCAM- DO NOT CHOOSE! Outside most Sixt centres there are petrol…read morestations, so it'll be very easy to find one and refuel before you return the vehicle you hired. However, they don't tell you this when they tout the benefits of pre-paying (including low stress and no hassle) and conveniently miss out that you won't get money back for anything you don't use). So, we hired a van and opted in for the pre-paid fuel, which totalled £116. When we returned the van we had used less than half so I called and asked about a refund, which I was told was possible, all I had to do was email. When I emailed I was told there was a service fee and refuelling fee which would total more than the amount we would be given (so over £58). This amount is disgusting, especially as we saw an employee drive the van we'd hired out of the centre, across the road to the petrol station, and refill it in about 5 minutes. Clearly nothing but a money grab and ridiculous that you can't get anything back, even if you barely used anything.

Where do I start I…read morehad hired a van for Monday 15th June and changed it online to Tuesday 16th which generated a code and accepted the change. I then received a call on Monday 15th June at approximately 10.30pm by a Mr Sharples at the Chester road Trafford branch asking where I was. I explained and he apologised for the mix up, but he will have to cancel the original booking and refund it and rebook another one. On tuesday 16th I went in to pick up the van and was informed that I need to pay a £250 deposit as I was being rebooked again (through no fault of mine) and the new cost of hire for the day which came to a total of £328.99. This was on top of the online rental that was cancelled by Mr Sharples. The cancelled online rental I was informed would take 5 days to receive back and the deposit up to 10 days. Initially I was not going to pay the extra insurance but as Mr Sharples had specifically said to me it was a brand new van, something just did not feel right when he said that and I decided to take it out luckily. I was given a new VW Crafter (5000 miles on the clock). I walked around with Mr Sharples, it was a quick walk around and in my negligence I did not thoroughly check the van. Mr Sharples spoke to me about the petrol cap and fuel (front passenger side) as he was showing me and I was paying more attention to what he was talking about rather than checking the van at this point. The next day I returned the van and Mr Sharples walked around to the van and almost with what I can only describe as a sixth sense went straight to the fuel tank and pointed out a very small dent (without a scratch on paintwork). He also then in his great wisdom decided to inform me that he had shown me the fuel tank and that I had clearly checked it. Mr Sharples also decided to inform / dictate to me that the previous day that he had stated that a car or third party parked along side could easily cause damage. I was therefore going to lose my excess of £75. I have worked in retail management for 17 years and foolishly fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book. Using distraction as a tool. Mr Sharples had distracted me when talking about fuel I was concentrating on him and not checking. I urge other customers please check very thoroughly and from angles for dents that can only be seen in certain light. Mr Sharples pointed out the dent from a distance from the back of the van at an angle. A very small dent without paintwork damage is easily missed up close especially when being cleverly distracted. The reason I am positive that the dent was already there is that although Mr Sharples in his great wisdom thought that he can put words in my mouth without knowing how and where I had spent the previous 24 hours with the vehicle. This was in relation to 3rd party damage which he reiterated to me when pointing out the dent. All that Mr Sharples knew was that I was driving to London and back. On the day of hire I drove straight to London at no point was I parked next to any vehicle. In London I backed onto a driveway where the vehicle remained until it was loaded. We left London at 7pm arrive in Manchester at 11pm. Upon arrival we backed up onto my drive way with only the nose sticking out. We even took off our iron gates to allow for more room so as not to scratch the doors when getting out. The van remained there overnight. In the morning I drove it back and fueled up around the corner at Tesco and up close I still did not notice the dent. I am absolutely certain that the dent on the fuel cap flap did not occur during my hire. Having worked in retail and dealing with people all the time I have learnt to take measure of individuals. I know I was tricked and I would urge anyone reading this please, please be careful especially at Trafford. I have not experienced this with sixt in London ever. I would be very interested to see if others have had similar experiences. Also would be interested if employees get commission / bonus on extra income as insurance and excesses cashed in especially with new vehicles. The way I see it Mr Sharples raked in an easy extra £95 at my expense. I will not be using sixt again. Salford van hire it is in future. The vehicle was a VW Crafter 35M registration, GJ15JXD

Do not use this company. I hired a 3.5 ton tail lift van in June to move some furniture and whilst…read morethe collection of the van itself was extremely simple (they don't inspect the van with you before you leave), it wasn't overall without issues. After picking up the van and getting it home, I noticed tyre was low on pressure (visibly which is a bad sign if you can see it's under inflated) so I pumped it up to the required pressure, loaded the van ready for the next day and left it. Checked the pressure the next morning and it had lost 1-2 psi so not enough to be a problem for that day so I set off on my 80 mile round trip. About 30 minutes in to the journey I ended up with a complete flat on the M6 so got in touch with U drive who at this point were helpful, organised the AA to come out to me and get the spare fitted and be on our way. This is where the problems started. When the AA arrived and got the spare out of the back, it was pretty much completely bald - certainly illegal - U-Drive Bolton sent a van out with an illegal spare tyre (I found out later the owners reasoning for this because people steal them!). Luckily the AA changed it still so that we could get off the hard shoulder and get it replaced. So, another conversation with U-Drive and they said that we should head to their local place to get the tyre fixed or replaced and sent me the address, perfect. Only it wasn't, I was 12 miles from the junction to Lancaster on the M6 in the wrong direction, so that would have meant probably the best part of 40 miles to get to the garage driving with an illegal spare which I wasn't willing to do so decided to find a local tyre place just off the next junction 12 miles away. With a replacement tyre being fitted I thought I'd call U-Drive to explain what I'd done, I hadn't even mentioned any reimbursement cost when I was met with a "not at our expense you're not". The owner (Stuart Lever) was very hostile from the mere mention of me using someone else to sort the tyre out regardless of the legality of the situation or how dangerous it could have been (found out the tyre that went flat had been plugged before rather than patched up). He then started with a sob story about people don't care about the vans and treat them like dirt and it's impossible to run his business. Eventually I managed to explain I wasn't looking for him to cover the cost of the tyre I'd had fitted and merely was looking for him to refund me the cost he would have paid. Said he'd deal with it when I returned the van. The weekend came and went and so I returned the van first thing Monday morning. On asking about the refund for the tyre I was told Sophie who works on reception would sort that but she wasn't in. After listening to his sob story again about how hard it was to run his business and others like him were shutting down, I left. I chased that week a couple of times, no refund. I chased over the next couple of weeks, no refund. Each time with various excuses about how Sophie wasn't in or had already left with the last attempt me pointing out it wasn't my problem now that I wasn't being called back and maybe they want to learn some customer service, the owner (Stuart Lever) hung up. I called back again just this week to be told they'd refund £47 for the tyre, I paid nearly £120 - I accepted. I wasn't in this to cause them hassle, I made the decision to go and get the tyre fixed somewhere else and I wasn't asking them to cover that, only what they would have paid. Money has turned up on my card now so this review can go out. Do not use U-Drive Bolton, the vehicles are badly maintained (I've not even listed the other issues like roller shutter barely working, dash trim falling off above your knee, etc, etc), the owner (Stuart Lever) wants you to have sympathy for him rather than actually caring about his customers and they then fob you off with excuses when you try and get something sorted. I know I won't use them again. U-Drive (Bolton) Limted: 03948043
