I participated in Weight Watchers for several years when living in California and since 2012 at this location in Arizona, and have enjoyed the program and the people. It has worked well for me, and I returned this week in order to re-join and learn about the new changes implemented for 2020. I was very disappointed for several reasons:
1) In spite of ads that promoted "Join for free and lose 10 pounds on us" the person at the registration desk said "that's for online only with no meetings". She said that the registration fee for attending meetings was $40 upfront and then a weekly fee thereafter.
2) I paid the $40 fee but later realized that one of the changes from earlier versions of the program is that now members MUST download program information onto a smart phone and handle tracking that way--she said that there was no more paper record-keeping. No one mentioned this in advance. I prefer NOT to be hunched over a smart phone squinting at a tiny screen in order to be a WW member.
3) No one could tell me how many points I could use (based on gender, age, height, and initial weight) because "it's all in the app".
4) As I was completing my registration, 2 other members were at the check-in desk complaining about problems with the app on their smart phones.
Based on the above, I cancelled my membership the next day, returned the materials, and am now awaiting a refund. read more
