Wurstfest is one of my favorite festivals to attend each year! The food, drinks and entertainment are always awesome. Pro tip- go on a week night because it's free entry. Weekends require purchased tickets. There's a little something for everyone, food galore, adult beverages, shopping, live music, a carnival, indoor and outdoor seating, etc. Do yourself a favor and get a pork chop on a stick. It's the most popular food item- you can tell by the constant line of people at their booth. My one disappointment is that beer prices continually rise every year. There was a point in time that you could get a domestic beer pitcher for $15-17, now a pitcher (import) is over $30! Although I wish the prices would decline, I know that I'm going to return each year because I always have the best time! read more

Quick historical tidbit: Of all the settlers that came to Texas only the German Immigrants did not break treaties with Indians. Which became the basis in the creation of New Braunfels. Why did I add this? Well, as a newbie to Wurstfest the friendliness by the community is abundant. I have been meaning to do it for years but that day never came, until now. I am not a fan of crowds even though I'm front and center for Fiesta San Antonio. In Texas we love to party. Which brings me back to my historical tidbit. All immigrants, settlers that have come(and still do) from other countries have contributed to the genesis of our state. Be it by culture, food and music. Wurstfest is a reaffirmation of the influence German Immigrants has had in the creation of a Texas identity. An event that unabashedly celebrates both sausage and beer, which is a match made in heaven. Firstly, I implore you to buy tickets online. It's five bucks lesser and will alleviate potential entrance headaches. As I get older I find myself opting to go early or when an event opens. If you're an introvert like as me I highly recommend this. Wurstfest offers a shuttle service that is minutes away. I encourage you to utilize this. For about ten bucks you park in a separate area away from the event. The shuttle buses run every few minutes. And they run extremely efficiently. When I arrived here I was struck by how vast it is. I have never been to the October Fest in Germany. But as big as Texas Events are this one is really on an epic scale. You can sense what this event means to this community. Before you even enter you see masses of men wearing Alpine Hats and lederhosen. And the women rocking dirndl dresses. Entering and walking on the grounds you are surrounded by beer, food and music. Pretzels. Schnitzel. Bratwurst. Sauerkraut. In all directions there are beer stations everywhere. You can buy beer by the cup, plastic stein or the pitcher. There is a small list of beers on tap: Spoetzl Brewery and Hofbrau, from Germany. Brace yourself for the lines. You won't find a Hazy IPA, Trappist ALE nor any other style of beer for that matter. All beer and food is meant to aggrandize German culture, heritage and traditions. Thus it is mainly German styles. In addition there are pockets of small and large areas with picnic style seating and music. It is a communal affair. In Wursthalle Oompah Bands are playing with festivalgoers steins hoisted in the air, in unison with the music. The dance floor is filled with couples and that odd single dude doing the "Chicken Dance." For a second I closed my eyes and could hear the similarities between Mexican and Conjunto music. Thus the German Culture is monumental. In contrast in San Antonio when events where food and drinks collide there is a rowdy crowd. It often leads to grandstanding or hot-headed patrons. All throughout the day everyone was extremely friendly. It is a party vibe but my summation is that festivalgoers want to have a good time without incident. People have commented on how expensive this event is. Food items are reasonably priced but the beer is where the brunt of your money will go to. Pitchers were $40 bucks and I saw people walking around with three or more empty vessels. My suggestion is to stick with the German beers. They go perfectly with the food and are more full bodied. Especially with the brezel wurst I had. I know this used to be a ticketed event for everything here. Food and beer are by credit or debit card only. Before I do a terrible, awkward and awful interpretation of a "Chicken Dance" to cap this review let me add this. The Wurstfest is an awesome event that celebrates German Heritage. It fits in with the historical narrative that all immigrants contribute and still continue to our mosaic. If you've never gone before I highly recommend it. Well worth the ticket price. There were a lot of vendors and multiple drink booths that move really fast. Much more enjoyable compared to something like Fredericksburg. No drink tickets involved. And you won't have to pre buy beer to avoid getting back into long lines. I don't recommend buying the plastic beer mind btw. You end up paying more for beer. Unless of course you plan on reading it next year. Food and beer selection was good. Spent about 2 hrs here seeing everything. Probably could have taken more time if we decided to hangout in certain areas for longer. read more

It was a pretty good experience! We had some beers, German food, and got to walk around to check out the vendors! The venue is next to a river so you can also enjoy your snack/drink next to water watching turtles. The prices are a bit on a high edge of the range, especially for beer, which is unfortunately, normal for carnivals/fests. $10 for a cup is a bit much. Also, many vendors sold items that can be easily found on Amazon/other drop shipping platforms so we didn't not get anything. I literally go to wurstfest for the food and I am never disappointed. We went on the last day so entry was free, parking across the way was $21 and then it was a short walk to get inside. The live music is always fun and encourages you to be silly. I personally love the chicken dance!! We did spend a pretty penny on food, most things being $8+. This was my very first time attending Wurstfest. I went with my friend who has been several times (though not in recent years). I had a blast! It was so super crowded but it was also so well organized! Everything was streamlined from entry to exit and all in-between. Beer lines were long but moved quickly! Same with food lines, etc. This festival is a well-oiled machine. It was so cool getting to see so many authentic live bands, yodeling contests, and more. And I love to support local and most of the booths are run by local New Braunfels organizations. The Large pretzel in the upstairs of the hall with the restaurant was more than enough to feed 5 people!!! And where else can you get a pitcher of beer and put it in a Pitcher Koozie?!?! The festival is spotless and the workers are friendly. The grounds are covered big trees and a creek runs through the park. There is so much food and they have beer booths everywhere! Another year another WurstFest. I can't say anything else that people haven't already said, but I make the trip from Cali every year and it's a highlight for me. Such a great time. Great food, drinks, and music and the crowds are chill - never have seen any fights or bs. Not a huge fan of German food but the options are endless and perfect for anyone craving German classics. The selection of German and local craft beers is impressive! If you plan to attend next year, one thing to be aware of is that it can get very crowded, especially on weekends, so arriving early is a good idea. Parking can be an issue. Lines can be long, especially for popular food and drink stands, but the festival itself is a lot of joyful! So I've made a point to go every year, but this we started in the daytime, and honestly, it was just as Fun as just going a night. Daytime Experience: A lil less than 2/3 the normal crowd size, there were still lines for not as long, and they moved fairly quickly! It is a lot easier to maneuver around the fairgrounds and See stuff. Sunset is earlier, so if you get there by 2 or 3pm thats an ideal time to park and walk to the festival. It'll be dark shortly, and you'll get to experience both day & night experiences. Nighttime Experience: Sooo crowded. Energy is high. It's loud and easy to lose your group. Lines for beer, food, & restrooms are ALL long. It's expected and never took away from the overall experience, but if it's your 1st time, you might not enjoy it as much. Best Food (every year might be a lil different but these below are the spots are Always There) -Day Lions Club: Sausage on a Stick. It's actually a sausage wrapped in a tortilla. -Jacees: Bratwurst on Stick -Potato Pancakes were really good! @ Potato Pancakes (only 1 place) -Pork Chop on a Stick...its worth it! (only 1 place) There are lots of sausage and bratwurst vendors, but in my opinion, the 2 listed above are the best in flavor and Snap. read more

06 Nov 2023 Meh. The old covered structure is gone because of the fire a few years back. They have rebuilt and expanded. There are buildings across the river now. One section mimics the food of the state fair. Fried Oreos and Snickers. And there lies the problem... It's way too big now. And too modern. Most of the charm and old world feel is gone. We couldn't find some of the food items we craved, namely the sausage and cheese balls and the etouffee booth. They may have been there; we just couldn't see for all the people. We had a sausage and kraut sandwich and a pork schnitzel sandwich with potato salad. $10 and $12, respectively. Drinks (water and tea) were inexpensive at $2. Later, I had a cheese danish from Nagelins bakery for $4. It wasn't the same, either. Sigh. Parking in the lots right across from the festival entrance is $20 for the Knights of Columbus. It is free Wurstfest admission Monday through Thursday. Saves you about $20 per adult. Get a BOGO coupon online and save some money if you go during the weekend. read more

Went on a Saturday. If you don't like crowds, definitely go early. We were happy because you could buy drink tickets online, but it didn't save any time. You still have to stand in the same line as everyone who did not pre buy to pick up your tickets. Need tickets for drinks. Need card for food. Need different tickets for rides. Parking is more expensive the closer you get. Ranged from $20-40. Take cash for that. Some places did take card but some were just cash. Heard from a friend it was cheaper in the morning. Been a NB resident for almost 3yrs and I'm ashamed to say this was my first visit to Wurstfest. We went on a Sunday afternoon when it was not too crowded yet. Love the atmosphere. Very festive. I can just imagine how fun it must be at night plus a lot more people. The beer is cold. Fools is pretty good too. My favorites were the pork chop on a stick and the funnel cake. Good food, music, dancing and good company. Im glad we came. By the time we left at 5pm, the place was getting pretty crowded already Fridays and Sundays are BOGO days, so keep that in mind. Parking was super easy, parked directly across the street from entrance. It was $20.00. There was no entrance fee due to visiting on a weekday, which was a plus. I had never been to Wurstfest before but my daughter and her husband invited me so I went. I am by no means an expert so these are kind of first impressions. Parking is good but it's going to cost you, this year it cost me $20.00 to park but that's to be expected. I was there on a Sunday and it happened to be the last day of Wurstfest. I got there around noon so there wasn't a huge crowd but it began filling up fast. The weather was extremely warm for November and there wasn't a lot of shady areas. Normally it would have been a lot cooler so sitting in the sun would have been a good thing, but not this year. The grounds where Wurstfest is held are beautiful and spacious. The food that I had was delicious, the potato pancakes, sausage on a stick among other things was very tasty. I recommend you bring your patience because lines can be long and there will probably be more than a few people that drink too much. I didn't encounter anyone that seemed inebriated but I left around 4:00 PM. I imagine people that leave around closing may have a different experience. It's all good, it's all fun. They've got all these German goodies like bratwurst, sauerkraut, and pretzels that taste like they came straight from Germany. Okay y'all! This was my first Wurstfest and it was amazing. We arrived early and got a great parking space across the street and we were in line in minutes. The ease of the metal detectors and bag check was perfect. Pre-ordered tickets scanned and we were in the gate. Headed to easy to reach drink ticket counters for our tickets and the beer next. Everything was clearly marked and easy to understand. Food out the yazzo with many favorites. We grabbed a table and waited for our friends. The entertainment was exactly what one would expect. Fun, easy to sing along to and had a good beat to dance to (for all of my American Bandstand friends). We met some amazing new friends, got some hats and enjoyed great beer and food. What a great festival...we happened to be staying in New Braunfels during wurstfest! Lucky us! What a great tribute to German heritage! As mentioned, earlier is better for parking, with many options from free to $10-40. Some require a shuttle from a mile or so away! If you are lucky, you can arrive during a time that is free to enter, otherwise, it's $15 at the door ($12 if you prepaid on line). There are multiple areas set up, each with seating and live music. By wandering around, usually you can find a seat in different areas. The food is just mind boggling. Everything from sandwiches to authentic German items. Don't miss Wurstfest! It should be called BestFest because it is one of the best festivals that I have ever been to. The grounds are massive and there is plenty of room for large groups of people. Make sure to get there early for parking but there are park and rides set up all over the place. The grounds are well maintained and there are plenty of bathrooms. To drink you will need drink coupons which you can pre-buy before coming or you can buy onsite. I recommend 30-40 per person if you plan on getting a stein. There is also a ton of food options. The potato pancakes is a crowd favorite and there will be a line for them. The line moves quickly so don't let it discourage you from getting them. If you are a sausage fan or bratwurst fan then you will be in heaven. The live music is outstanding and you are guaranteed to have a great time if you come to Wurstfest. read more

If you like German food, beer, fun crowds and looooud live music, this place is your gem! They do get very very busy and parking can be rough. Plan ahead and get ready to walk some distance to get there. Variety of foods is incredible and everything I tried was yum. They brought a small carnival area and that was a perfect little entertainment for younger guests. Tons of vendors inside, from pastries, to clothing and hand crafts. The location is gorgeous and you will enjoy exploring everything they had to offer. Weekend are the busiest and it gets packed, beer gets spilled, but everyone is there to have lots of fun. I'd avoid visiting with small kids past sunset as it gets rowdy, but overall it is rather family friendly. read more

This was our second time coming by. I didn't really know how everything works and where everything was the first time. With that experience I learned a lot for our second visit here. You have a few options for getting here. Drive and park, rideshare, or take the shuttle or Wurstwagen. Each has its own advantage. We opted to drive and pay to park at Knights of Columbus Hall off of Lands which was conveniently across the street from Gate 1. It was 15.00. Once you have gone through security there are drink ticket booths that are a dollar each. The prices are nicely posted on the window of the booth to help you decide how many tickets to purchase. Food is cash for the most part some booths may take a card you'll just have to ask. Sausage galore is king here. I wanted to try something new and opted for the Wurst Goulash. This soup was absolutely delicious.On top of that it was a bargain for$4.50 for about 12 ounces of soup. Very Hearty! To go with this I used 8 tickets for a Paulaner Hefeweisen. Great combo out in the crisp weather outdoors! If you have kids or just enjoy rides don't forget the carnival here. It is worth the drive out to New Braunfels for this annual event every November. Just don't forget to reserve your lodging early to snag that great rate because the properties in the area will charge you a lot as you get closer to opening day. read more

I remember coming to Wurstfest as a kid with my Opa. Dressed in matching lederhosen and on display for all the cheek pinching I could handle! The grounds at Landa Park are spectacular and totally fitting for a German festival. It's definitely transformed over time and expanded with popularity. I try to get back every 1-2 years and it seems like there is always a new building, a bigger tent and more people! I'd suggest going during the day or weekdays to avoid crowds of drunk college kids and just an overall mob of people. Try a hot sandwich or Belgian waffle from the Edelweiss Deli or Wurst Goulash from the Wursthaus. When you're buying beer, grab tickets first, a bunch of em too so you can avoid double lines when you get thirsty. Unfortunately no short cuts, just look for the fastest moving line and try to finish your last beer just in time to get your next! Prost! read more

We decided to drive out to new braunfels and are very glad we did! What a fun time, pitchers of beer, German food and tons of live music. (Just ask me if you are curious) Willkommen to New Braunfels where Germany is our homeland and we celebrate our heritage as often as possible! What better way than to host a festival to honor the sausage?! Wurstfest is a 10 day celebration of Wurst & Bier in early November along the banks of the Comal River in downtown New Braunfels ... and a place to do the Chicken Dance! Over 50 years of Wunderbar! *HINT*FREE ADMISSION* The first day (Friday) before 6pm The last day (Sunday) after 3pm OR look for discount coupons in local papers My personal story: I grew up in Canyon Lake which is just 20m west of NB. In the 70s and into the 80s, there really wasn't much to do around here. Comal Country Fair and Wurstfest were our two big events of the year. I have spent a lot of time here from a teenager to young adult. Then I just got burned out. I have visited more recently meeting up with local friends on the last day for free admission after 3pm. Oh my how Wurstfest has grown! Lines, Lines, Lines. It's the land of lines. One of the longest lines will be for the potato pancakes. I lucked out a few years ago on a (last) Sunday and was able to get one w/o much of a line. It was as good as I remember. Just expect lots lines especially on Thu night which is college night and both weekends. *HINT* Keep this in mind not only for Wurstfest but any festival... better the weather, the more people come out to play. So please don't let a little cold or rain keep you away. It's actually so much better w/o all the people and the festival could use your business during those times. (I also say this about Sherwood Forest Faire, a Medieval Festival east of Austin) Pitchers of beer are Back! ... but they aren't cheap... At one time, they actually discontinued the pitchers of beer because of the drunks. Germans love their beer... but people are stupid. I highly suggest getting a local hotel room and using a taxi or Uber (my how NB has grown) to get back and forth. Also most recently, German beers are now available for purchase, at an additional cost of course! *HINT* Do not walk around with stacks of beer cups. Local PoPo are watching you. Comal County as well as Bexar County are both "no refusal" counties 24/7/365. Entertainment... several areas to enjoy music. In the old days, it was just the WurstHalle but now tents and stages are all over the park. There is even a carnival area for the kids but honestly I wouldn't want to bring kids out there, but if I did it would be a day time thing, and keep them home to avoid the rowdy crowds at night. *Parking* Either pay for parking at the front entrance... OR park for free closer to downtown and walk a few blocks... OR try your luck in Landa Park where it's also free. *Note* Mark your calendars to break out your lederhosen and dirndl a day early, the Thursday before Wurstfest starts, as Pub Crawl New Braunfels host their famous (or infamous) Best Wurst Pub Crawl in downtown New Braunfels. The hosts organize this amazing event with the generosity of the Faust Hotel (great place to stay for the night!) and other local pubs in the few blocks around the plaza. If you haven't been to Wurstfest, you've definitely seen an Instagram post or two from a random babe you follow with the caption "On our WURST behavior *beers clinking emoji*" For $10, you'll enter the world of German culture as people celebrate with beer, sausage, polka music, and good times. Domestic beer is $5 and a pitcher is around $20--not too shabby! A common sight at the fest is people with stacked pitchers and/or cups. There are plenty of food booths run by local New Braunfels schools and businesses. Surprisingly, the food is amazingly affordable. I got myself a crazy delicious and huge jalapeño and mac&cheese stuffed sausage for only $6! For dessert, I treated myself to a 3-pack of fried Oreos for only $3. You seriously cannot beat these festival prices and you can truly embrace your inner glutton here. You have to go to Wurstfest at least once. What another wonderful year of Wurstfest. Able to attend opening and closing days and it was the best time. The new vendor booths and lots of beverage stands made the event very fun. Parking was easy and lines were short to get in and purchase tickets. The grounds are fun and being able to support small businesses is always a good time. Lots of nice items and the food is delicious. I ordered porkchop on a stick, fried oreos, potato tornados, and some great turkey legs. Come with an appetite and leave with a new hat and pins. We have been coming here for years and we truly enjoy it year after year. The crowds vary depending on the day and time but it's manageable. The food is awesome and the prices are fair. A decent meal item can be 4-7 dollars which is cheaper than other events which may cost average of $10. The food lines are a bit long but they do move fast. The beer line is always a mess with very long lines so be ready to wait. My suggestion is to buy your drink tickets on line and redeem at the window. This line is short in comparison to the cash line. Parking can be a challenge. So come early. Parking lots vary from $10-40. There are free areas but those are the first to fill, of course. The entertainment is always great with American and Europe German / Polka bands. It so much fun. People always look happy to participate, dance and sing. That's what makes this event so much fun. Restrooms are busy but clean. Port a potty are gross. People don't respect that someone else is going to use them next. I don't understand why they behave different in port a potty vs a bathroom. There is plenty of workers who make sure the grounds are clean and so it looks pretty decent considering the amount of visitors. Plenty of security making the event safe. If you love German food & beer and polka music, this is the festival for you! It's a little over an hour drive south of Austin and it is worth the road trip. Tons of good food-potato pancakes (my favorite!), sausage on a stick, sauerkraut balls, schnitzel, strudel...the list goes on and on with the 50+ vendors. The beer options are rather limited so don't go expecting a craft beer hall. They do have options like Shiner (less expensive option) and Paulaner (more expensive option). You will need to purchase drink tickets for these, and even for non alcohol drinks as well. (The food vendors for the most part do take credit cards.) If you manage not to stuff yourself, you can take a trip around the dance floor with one of the polka bands playing. I recommend checking out Wursthalle. They have the best bands and there is a dance floor. If nothing else, check out all the other folks dancing while you enjoy the classic music! read more

Fun and expensive. The most disappointing thing about this festival is the price. Just a few years back it was only $12 to enter. It now cost you around $25 to enter. The price of beer here is just as outrageous is going to the Houston livestock show and rodeo. On large beer it seems like it's around a dollar an ounce. We paid eight dollars for a cup of beer. It's $26 for a domestic stein of beer and $30 for the import. Pictures are even more expensive and there was no shortage of people walking around with them. The food was expensive and very good. I think the pork chop on a stick was as good as anything. I ate several places that served sausage on a stick. I went to three different places where there were bands playing. Very crowded and hard to find a seat. This is a well organized event with plenty of security and plenty of folks to help you get in and out with no problem. There was a wide variety Of things to eat and drink. Some folks like to wear costumes that adds to the ambience of the festival. I don't see how you could say this could be a family event. I think they priced themselves out of the market on tickets, although there was a crowd of people there, I think they've taken the average family out of this event. Can you really say it's a family event when you're charging $30 for a stein of beer. I can understand having a decent markup on beer, but marking it up 6-7 times does not seem like it's in anyone's best interest except the festivals interest, even if it is a charitable event. They've done like so many other places and events, they've commercialized it to where it's just not affordable for the average family. In the past year admission has gone up five dollars. Apparently it used to be free on Fridays and now it's not. If you happen to download the coupon you can get buy one get one free on Friday. In 2019 the price to enter the festival was $12. On Saturday this year the price was $25. I read quite a few complaints online where people just don't come anymore because they say they can't afford it. I probably won't come back here next year. If you're going to go to this festival you should have another plan for the rest of your day. 1. The price for admission on Saturday for two is $50. 2. Add a couple of Steins of beer to that and spent an additional $60. 3. Add some food for each person and now you're another $40 into the event. 4. Add some parking in there and you could be another $20-$40 out of pocket. 5. Remember, you're between 150 and $200 into this event and you've only had one beer each. If you want a souvenir or dessert you better add another $20. I went on Friday and Saturday and wished I hadn't went on Friday. You could see everything you want, eat some food and listen to a band or two in a four hour period. If you plan on spending the entire day and drinking beer and eating food you're probably going spend between $300 to $500 for two people. I would encourage anyone going to this festival to find something to do the rest of the day. I don't know why anyone would want to spend more than about four hours here. Half the fun is taken out of it when you look at what you have to spend to go there. I guess with fancy buildings, high prices are to follow. I don't mean for this to sound so pessimistic, but this is a very expensive festival and if you're planning on spending the night or doing it more than one day you are going to pay a lot. I just think they've taken the small town out of the Festival, and it seems to me like one big beer drinking event. Maybe it's always been that way and it just didn't seem like it. If you're planning on spending $150 per person from the beginning you might not be as disappointed. They've priced themselves out of the family event Just like most events that were once annual events. I think they could do a little better job making the restroom signs a bit larger. This is a large facility that's very well-kept and a very pleasant place to be around. Everything was very clean and organized. I think the city does a very good job putting this festival on and that a lot of thought goes into how to make traffic flow and get people in and out in a timely manner. I think the Wurstfest has evolved with time, and for my liking, it's gotten too large and commercialized. I know that's a hard thing to control when you advertise on social media, but one thing you can control is the price and in my opinion it's gotten out of control. I would not recommend this as a family event. I guess I'd like to see what the worst fest committee thinks about how a family could go out to an event in their own town or nearby and spend $500 to hang out for the day on entrance, eating, events, and beverages.
