He is an extraordinary and gifted surgeon and has a genuine concern and high level of compassion for his patients. My case was complex and extremely painful and required multiple surgeries. His number one concern for me was pain control and what he could due to ensure I could continue to operate my funeral home and enjoy my life. He treats his patients like they are family and not just another injured person. He makes himself available to his patients until ALL their questions are answered. Yes, you do have to wait to see him, but its because he is in such high demand as a surgeon and his level of skills is one that warrants the wait. I wouldn't even consider seeing another doctor. I trust him wholeheartedly and know the decision about what procedures need to be done for me is what's best for me and for the fastest recovery. If you want the very best of what the medical field and surgery has to offer make the call to Upstate Orthopedics and ask for Dr. Kevin Setter. How many surgeons do you know would operate on a patient on a Saturday? One. Dr. Kevin Setter. I was in a great deal of pain and he took time away from his family to take care of me. Most other surgeons wouldn't have cared that I was hurting and scheduled it four weeks later. That speaks volumes about Dr. Kevin Setter.

He cares more about protecting your insurance company then about you. actually put it in notes that my pain does not match my MRI which greatly affects if my no fault will continue paying for my medical care. instead of "let's find out what is causing this pain" he is a terrible attendant and simply does not care about you. his notes are not accurate and he makes mistakes in them when they are very important to your care to be accurate. I am in pain and I am being treated dismissive when something is going on causing this pain and what if this time going by makes it worse, makes it permanent.

His bedside manner is excellent, and he has a great sense of humor. There was only so much he could do to help me with my particular condition, but he did EVERYTHING he COULD do. We decided on a nerve block, and when he told me that it would probably take 3-4 weeks for me to get it, because upstate bone and joint requires pre-approval from insurance, and then they need to find time to make me an appointment, I broke down in tears. Well, I don't know how he pulled it off, but Dr Kang managed to get me in a week and a half after my initial appointment! The staff in the surgery center on the third floor were fantastic, and so was Dr Kang. I was given a sedative, but I have ehlers danlos syndrome, so it didn't do a whole lot. That was OK though, because it meant I was able to ask questions about my procedure as he was doing it. He was a rock star, answering me and delivering my nerve block with precision and care at the same time. I'm passionate about medicine, and I love to learn, so that was cool. Also it distracted me from the pain a bit, which was helpful. He also called and personally checked up on me. He also answered my messages on MyChart in a timely manner, which I really appreciated! All in all, I highly recommend Dr Kang, even though he practices out of Upstate Bone and Joint, which is a dystopian nightmare of endless waiting rooms- he will personally get you in pretty quickly, but also give you the time you need.
