I love the Hearing & Balance Center of Gadsden because my husband had went through every other…read moreplace even Atlanta Emory Hospital to try and get the best hearing doctors available so that he could hear again! One night he went to bed hearing and the next morning he woke up deaf in one ear and 3% left in the other ear! He was frightened and couldn't read so he had to yell, I suppose thinking we couldn't hear him so we had to yell back so he could hear us because he couldn't read. He didn't know some language and all other avenues had played out to where there was no hope for him to ever hear again. My husband is a preacher, and this left him to where he couldn't hear prayer request or talk to the people he had to Council... we were at our wits end without nerves shot and nowhere to turn but to God! After much prayer my husband and I received a mailer from my mom about the balance & Hearing Center in Gadsden. We went with faith that God was going to answer our prayers through Mitch and Holly. After receiving some very expensive hearing aids to where we had to finance them, Mitch and Holly were so moved by our story they both were in tears as we were. Exactly two weeks later after being fitted for my husband's hearing aids they were tested. When we walked in that day he could not hear but 3%, and when we walked out that day he received 92% of his hearing back! This company is awesome and the people that work there are extremely awesome people that are God sent! Thank you so very much for the gift of hearing!

Having been on the receiving end of ear, nose and throat issues throughout my life, I've seen my…read morefair share of doctors. I've yet to find better than Dr. Poynor. He diagnosed my weird allergies and gave me allergy shots to alleviate them through college. Then, when I had chronic tonsillitis sophomore year of college, he performed the surgery to remove my tonsils and adenoids. (Note to self- get tonsils out as a small child, this is NOT easy to recover from as an adult!) Every time I go to see Dr. Poynor, I'm met with equal parts dry humor, adept intelligence, and art knowledge. Yes, I did say ART in relation to an ENT specialist. You see, part of the allure of Dr. Poynor is his love of the arts- he is an avid collector and an advocate for the Birmingham Museum of Art. So, when I'm feeling gross and sick, I know he'll make me smile and provide some fantastic tidbit about where to go the next time I'm in London or what exhibit has just been added to the Birmingham collection. Dr. Poynor is probably best known for his solution to infections in his patients: yes, you walk out the door with an antibiotic Rx, but the secret is the two shots you get before you leave. An injection of antibiotics gets to work immediately, and a small amount of a steroid helps the body move past illness quickly. Not the most pleasant thing, being jabbed, but I always know that I'll get better faster. Even when I've lived out of town, or out of the country, Dr. Poynor has always been on my speed dial in case of ear, nose, or throat related illness/issues because he does an amazing job and always makes me feel better. (The lollipops on the way out don't hurt either)... Five stars for Dr. Poynor!

Yesterday I waited for an hour after my appointment time, and was in the waiting room with people who were there before me. Rescheduled for today and its now a half hour past my appointment and I'm still in the waiting room. The receptionist and nurse keep apologizing but I've wasted all this time away from work to sit in a waiting room. Maybe next time they could tell me as I'm sitting there in front of them instead of my having to wonder what's taking so long after a half hour. Will update after the appointment.

I was supposed to be in the hospital over night and was there 6 days!! He then let me go home and I had to go to ambulatory care at the hospital Mon, Tue, Wed, Thurs, Fri and then to the ER on Sat and Sun for IV calcium and potassium...this went on for 6 WEEKS!!! He never once saw me again and sent his nurse practitioner in to take my stitches out. He turned it over to his wife (she's a doctor too) to set my iv doses. Well after 57 IV sticks (and me begging for a central line that he declined when called) and 6 weeks of the same mess, I went to Birmingham. Dr, Bateman promised my parathyroid was still there and would pick back up in within a few weeks...is what he said. I went to the head of endocrinology at UAB and he said there was no presence of a parathyroid!! They did scans and extensive bloodwork. So every time I get a fever or bad stomach bug I end up in the hospital and I have had many complications because it causes low calcium (hypocalcaemia). I never had blood pressure issues until this and because of the parathyroid issue it causes me to have high blood pressure, well now my kidneys are failing due to all of this. I was told I couldn't sue beacuse it was a risk associated with the thyroidectomy, even though he never pointed that out to me. I WOULD NOT SEND EVEN SOMEONE I DISLIKE TO THIS MAN!!!
