Do not expect to have any care if you are there on a weekend. It's not just the Starbucks that's closed. The staff is lean with the least qualified doctors and nurses. It took four nurses to draw blood from my father in the middle of the night, having to give him pain medication in the process because they couldn't do it correctly. The Doctors at BVH only look at their computers, never at the patient. There is no respect for the human being lying in the bed. My biggest regret is not transferring to Cleveland or Cincinnati before it was too late.

To the Board of Directors of Blanchard Valley Hospital,…read more I am writing to you today to inform you of my families experience in the care of your cardio team, lead by Dr. Greg P Gerschultz. November 21st 2009, Game day for the big Ohio State vs. Michigan match up; my parents were driving to Florida for the winter. After a short time, my mother started to feel nauseous. She told my father to pull over. After getting sick, her chest started to hurt and her neck and jaw lock up. My father pressed his On-Star button and was directed to your hospital. He barely had my mother out of the vehicle, before one of your emergency staff team members was at his side. She was extremely quick and efficient. The next thing he knew, Dr. Greg and his cardio team were on the scene. They took my mother right away. After a quick examination, they explained that there were two possible outcomes. The first being a stent, and the second consisted of open heart surgery. They told him that if one of their team members wasn't out within twenty minutes, then they had started the surgery. After they took my mother away, I received a frantic phone call from my father. Needless to say, he was scared. He is a retired US Marshall and one tough son of a gun. He could barely tell me what hospital they were at, let alone what was going on. I left my home in Ann Arbor immediately. While I was on the road, I received a second call from my father. This time, he was much calmer and couldn't say enough about Dr. Gerschultz. He informed me that the good doctor, explained everything clearly, kindly and so thoroughly, that my father understood what he was being told. The stent they installed saved my mother's life. The care and empathy Dr. Greg's team showed is truly a rarity. I arrived about an hour and a half after the first phone call my father placed. At this time, my mother was awake. I was grateful and more then a little relieved. About an hour later Dr. Greg came into the room and introduced himself to me. He explained to me what had transpired and that the quick actions of my father and the experience of your team is the reason my mother is still with us today. The great care continued throughout her stay. The nurses assigned to my mother's care were phenomenal. Becky, Karen and Tom were just as friendly and helpful as Dr. Greg and his team. They made it their mission to make sure my mother was comfortable and that we were always well informed as to what was going on. I knew that my mother was in good hands and I needed to calm my father down. I asked if the nurses knew where I could find a hotel and some food. It was Dr. Greg who brought me the note with not one, but two hotels and several restaurant recommendations. He understood that we weren't thinking clearly and that we needed to get out for a bit. I've never met a doctor who is so compassionate. Normally they leave something as menial as directions to the aids, but Dr. Greg was right there again, proving that your staff at Blanchard Valley Hospital is there to serve and heal their patients. When I got home, I had some questions about my mother's medicine. I called and spoke with Tom. Again, he was wonderful and informative. He was very clear and wanted to make sure that I understood everything. After a few days we received another huge surprise. A binder with a complete record of what was done arrived for my mother and father to be able to take it to their cardiologist when they returned home. Blanchard Valley Hospital went the extra mile and further for me and my family. As the owners of a Dealership in Saline Michigan, I hope that our staff can work as diligently as yours did. Dr. Greg's team and the staff of Blanchard Valley Hospital truly demonstrated World Class Service and I wanted you to know about it! I hope that you will take the time to shake the hands of each of your staff members and congratulate them on the work they do every day. Live with Gratitude, D. Crispin

When it came time to receive certain procedures , I was told I had to contact my insurance company to see what is covered - fine - I am happy to take the reigns. But, when you are playing middle man between two organizations and a language you do not speak it becomes disastrous. I won't bore you with the small details, but I communicated back and forth and couldn't get a straight clarification on the coding of the procedure or anything to describe to my insurance what would even be happening. I told them this is the first time I have had to be the one to deal with this type of communication, and they didn't have much to say. i went ahead with things and when I received my bill and had an issue, I called to ask Blanchard Valley. The billing department said I would have to talk to the nurse. The nurse said she "doesn't handle situations like that." And that I would have to call someone else. That someone else said they would look into it and two weeks later they had not contacted the person they needed to speak with. An UTTER DISASTER and lack of professionalism at this place. I am now with a new health provider and at my appointment, they clarified - "we looked into your insurance and since this is that, it will be coded this way and you will only have to pay a copay." I overheard another conversation - "yeah we coded that wrong and that was our mistake, so we talked to your insurance and got it cleared up. You actually owe this." They do not care about their patients. Their nurses may, and the individuals you see may be polite, but the organization as a whole couldn't care less about how things go along the way. They're not walking through this with you, they're not invested. You're a transaction and They're blindly going through the motions. Don't waste your time. P.S. This is the first time I have ever been driven to the point of writing a negative review. It's disappointing and careless and people should know.
