Early visitors of Cape May included Henry Clay, Ulysses Grant, and possibly Abraham Lincoln in 1849. Victorian-style architecture was the most common style used from the 1860s to 1900s, during Cape May's reconstruction. Perhaps one of the best-known Victorian houses is the Emlen Physick House. As Cape May's only Victorian house museum, visitors can tour inside, as it was part of our combo trolley ticket. Named for Doctor Emlen Physick, he completed his medical training but did not practice medicine and lived off of his generation's wealth. Designed in 1876 by famed architect Frank Furness, the mansion is an excellent example of a stick-style house. It's characterized by geometric shapes and partially exposed timbers that hint at the house's support structure. An eighteen-room fully furnished features with period-accurate Victorian goods and offers a glimpse of what life was like in the late 1800s. The tour guide, Chris,, was fantastic & really went through every possible detail on the family & the history. Well worth the extra few dollars!

To purchase alcohol, you needed to present your id and get a wristband which I thought was a good idea. However, I had to stand in a long line to purchase drink tickets even though I wasn't really sure what I was going to drink. I didn't find this to be a good system, and others around me in line seemed to agree. Additionally, there were several food trucks featuring BBQ, burgers, and hotdogs as well as sweets. Places to sit were limited, so it may be helpful to bring chairs or a blanket. There was also a variety of merchandise vendors along with two different live bands, neither of which appealed to me but seemed popular. Parking is limited, so we had to park about 4-5 blocks away.

It's walkable for most of the year except in the bitter winter months, in which case you'd have to wrap up very warm and keep the walk to a minimum. The summer sunlight and the gentle colours of Spring and Autumn are the best complement to these gorgeous coloured houses anyway. You might describe this as paradise, especially if you like history and the kind of buildings that you associate with Postcard Row in San Francisco. The whole center of town is filled with them, and many number of streets are lined with perfect gorgeous multicolored old Victorian style houses. It gives the town such a wonderful charm and makes it such a wonderful destination to visit on the East Coast. While you are in town make sure you try the ice cream delights at Fine Fellows.

This quaint little beach town with its Victorian houses and little local stores along cobblestone streets was so pleasant to walk and enjoy. The entire town was decorated in holiday lights, snowmen, reindeer and even the grinch! The center of town had a large lighted Christmas tree in a gazebo in a small park. Everything is walking distance and the local bars, restaurants and bed n breakfast inns are all In close proximity. Congress hall is a great breakfast place as well as Uncle Bills pancake house where we had an amazing breakfast at a great price. The Virginia hotel is a great place to stay and the dining experience is 5 star! Everyone was friendly and the town was clean and just overall pretty. For a beach town it was pretty busy and full for the holidays! There were tour buses which sounded like people were having a great time on with music and laughter! I guess I'll check it out again during the next 3 seasons! A nice, quick and relaxing weekend getaway!

And I've done those and they are worth the money. This was a well run activity, professional. I knew it was an hour and a half "trip" but it is actually just 20 minutes riding the bike rails in One Direction and then you turn around and do the same thing back for 20 minutes. There's a few stops where teenagers give a very memorized explanation about one of the parks you stop at (which you can drive to and walk around for free). If $100 is a drop in the bucket for you then you should do this.

It's not a city I would like to spend too much time in. It's sort of a hybrid between Atlantic City and Cape May, but it misses the main point of both, which in the first case is gambling, and in the second case is peaceful beautiful resplendent Victorian charm. But one place in Wildwood is worth spending time. On the boardwalk. The boardwalk is very cool in a very old style way. I prefer the ones in Seaside Heights, AC, Coney Island, and others, but still. I got soul, but I'm not a Soldier's Monument…read more The Soldier's Monument is a beautiful peaceful Serene and understated Monument right in the heart of sleepy Cape May New Jersey. Sleepy except in the summer months of course, which is probably when you will see it if you come to this town for a holiday. It's right in the middle of the old district with all the beautiful houses and serves as a poignant reminder of all of the tragic battles and lives that have been lost.

Pretty history if you wanted to read…read more Battery 223, constructed in 1943 at Cape May Point, New Jersey, was a crucial part of Fort Miles during World War II, designed to protect Delaware Bay's shipping routes from German naval threats with its two 6-inch rapid-fire guns capable of a 15-mile range. The bunker, built with 6-foot-thick reinforced concrete walls and a blast-proof roof, originally sat 900 feet from the ocean but now lies on the beach due to erosion. Notably, the structure included 20 rooms, such as shell and powder rooms, a plotting room, and an airlock to safeguard against chemical attacks. Post-war, it was used by the Navy for radio communications and became part of Cape May Point State Park in 1962. An interesting fact is that Battery 223, now abandoned, is rumored to be haunted, adding a layer of local folklore to its historical significance
