Our boys have been coming here since they were little and they have learned how to spar and defend themselves, but that's actually the least important of the things that they have learned from Peter and the other teachers. They stress that self defense is like an "insurance policy" and you should always avoid a confrontation if possible. Honestly my wife and I often talk about how Peter teaches life lessons and confidence as part of his process, and we quote him at home. I think we learn life lessons just from being in class with them! These are the lessons that they carry with them in almost every other activity and situation that they face. We feel very fortunate to get to know Mr Peter and the World Martial Arts Center. My son started with Mr Peter a few months ago and we are all very happy. My son is on the quieter side, and a little shy. A few months ago I started looking for martial arts classes. We have tried a few other places and were ready to sign up for one of them. Then my friend recommended WMA and Mr Peter. She said you better try this one before you make your decision. We did and he loves it! Mr Peter is so good with kids, they listen to him, and his coaching brings both laughter and wisdom in life lessons. He teaches kids in a fun way with positive feedback. He is disciplined, kind and humorous. I myself have learned a lot from his teaching too. Over the weekend my son had his 10th birthday party at WMA. It was a blast!!! Kids had a lot of fun. Mr Peter remembered every kid's name in such a short time, and gave my son his time to shine. Every kid was so engaged. They not only had a lot of fun but also got to exercise martial arts in many aspects both physically and mentally, individually or in teams. His assistant Ashley was also great with kids. She is patient and disciplined, but also lets the kids enjoy themselves. At the end, he got a beautifully designed board signed by all his friends. It was such a great memory! Parents can take lessons here too. In some classes both parents and kids can practice together. I feel that it is such a good way to bond with kids. Of all the kids activities during the pandemic, this was the only one that did not skip a beat. Classes immediately went virtual and instructors got creative with equipment (kids made dummies made from pillows and towels). This studio helped bring some normalcy to our lives and rolled with challenges. All while moving locations in the midst of of it all! Classes were online and when safe, they opened up live classes outdoors. Temperatures are taken, plenty of sanitizer is available, and kids even got special designed tie dye masks to welcome us back. If you are looking into martial arts (whether kids or adults), check it out. They offer a free trial period. Peter is the owner and is a great instructor. His love and passion for this sport really shows and has helped our kids further develop physically, mentally, and emotionally (also the mantra). The other instructor you'd also probably meet is Nelson. He is an enthusiastic teacher and always motivates the kids. Occasionally, he'll demonstrate some spins and bo staff moves that even impresses the adults. My 11 year old son has improved significantly in the past year we've been enrolled at the Palo Alto studio. The instructors are very positive and challenge the students in ways that make them work very hard and build their self confidence. The staff is always open to feedback for improvement of the lesson plans, facility, and scheduling. Conveniently located near 101 and 85 freeways. Plenty of parking with large spaces for bigger SUVs and trucks. Close by other shops like Costco, Bestbuy, and Starbucks in case you need to run errands before or after your lesson. Open Saturdays in case you miss a weekday lesson. Good selection of gear and pads for sale and really cool T-shirt's with WCMA logos. My two daughters had been learning martial arts from Peter for eight to nine years until they both had gone to college (UCLA and Stanford). Peter is an inspirational instructor. He always encourages kids to do their best and never give up easily. He is fun and patient. Kids love him. When I first started looking for a martial arts school 9 years ago, I was just hoping that the girls could learn self-defense tricks and get some exercise. We went to visit 5 martial arts schools and the girls didn't like any of them. Good thing that I listened to my friend and tried out with Peter at his previous location across street from Costco. The girls immediately glowed with happiness and wanted to come back after the first class. I've witnessed how Peter's teaching changed my daughters. They were shy and quiet girls with glasses who preferred reading or playing violin over physical activities. As soon as they were introduced the mixed martial arts methods and disciplines, they were like butterflies coming out of coons. They've become so confident and strong. It's almost like life changing experiences for my family. I initially hoped that they would just attend one or two classes per week, but they ended up coming here Monday through Friday (sometimes even Saturdays) and took multiple classes each day. It was like the girls' second home. They obtained black belts and even worked as instructors for a while before heading to college. I was always stunned when I saw them shout and fight on stage. Who would have known how shy and nerdy they were on the first few classes at this school, except for the instructors. I started as a student at this school in 2001 after my son started taking classes. The results are more than I could have ever hoped for. I lost all my baby weight 3 years after my second child, I regained strength in my left knee after ACL surgery (which hadn't completely recovered even after a year rehabbing with weights at the gym), have the confidence of being physically fit and able to defend myself, and I train with my 2 kids. Working out at the studio is FUN as the environment is positive, upbeat, and always community- and family-oriented. The people there have always been the number one reason we enjoy training there and have kept coming over the years. I earned my Black Belt sometime around the Summer of 2016. I'd worked through 10+ belts in the course of about 7 years. It's possible to achieve your belt much quicker than I did, but I really took my time about it. The instructors were supportive throughout my training and I really consider them to be my friends outside of the studio. I've got no regrets about coming here -- The instructors are wonderful with kids and are very well trained. Everyone should know how to defend themselves when it's necessary. The class really strengthened my core and focused on my hand eye coordination while improving my self defense skills.
