When we first toured it was magical walking along the trails and stopping under the canopies of trees to read, draw, explore and the program is thoughtfully prepared with learning stations and developmental opportunities. Our son runs to school every day and esp on rainy days when he gets to jump in muddy puddles. So grateful to have such an amazing preschool for our little one.

They make all of us (kids and parents) feel seen and heard, and they really make the kids feel special. Communication is huge for me, and from the moment I reached out to Pamela, she has been quickly responsive, communicative, and always takes the time to answer questions. Nature school provides so many wonderful outside of the box learning opportunities (for the kids, but also for me!). They learn through play and observation and teamwork, and in the 5 months my daughter has attended, I've noticed her communication about feelings and body awareness has really improved, as well as her problem solving skills. I was certainly a little nervous to send my daughter out in the rain, but I have to say, the rainy days have truly been her favorite school days! The kids LOVE to play in the mud! My toddler likes to hang out and play too! It really is true what they say; if you are properly clothed the weather doesn't seem so bad. The pick up/drop off location is breathtakingly beautiful and I feel pretty grateful that I get to experience it alongside my kids. And the best part for me? The teachers send a weekly report, complete with pictures, about what they all did throughout the week. They include the songs they sang, the mindfulness activities, quotes from the kids, the books they read, etc. I look forward to it every week. I hope that I can encourage more families to try it out, because this school is a blessing.

He has flourished under the encouragement and mentorship of exceptional teachers and supportive coaches. As a family from San Francisco, we sought a school that was nurturing and stimulating which definitely helped build our son's confidence. There are some amazing stand out teachers from Philosophy to History and Engineering - warm and caring, they are really interested in student success and challenging them to do more. My son is not easily impressed by people, and we are grateful that he was inspired by some brilliant college level instructors. Of course there were some teachers that were not a good fit, however we believe this to be true of any school, large or small, public or private. It is true that with a small school there are resource challenges. The positives outweighed the negatives for our family. Even though there were not as many options for sports teams, PacBay did an excellent job of providing a positive team environment in which everyone was accepted to play if they had an interest, and surprisingly they performed very well in the PSAL league for soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and cross country. Our son made tremendous improvement in his preferred sports of track and cross country; and he had the opportunity to play soccer, a team sport he otherwise would have never experienced. This definitely helped him create closer connections with his fellow students of all grade levels and not just his own class. The large and beautiful campus further facilitated a healthy learning environment, providing many opportunities for students to feel safe and free to be outside, visit the goats and chickens and play with beloved pets (dogs) that some teachers were able to bring on campus. The nearby corner store and beach was also a popular spot for students to unwind after a long day. A special shoutout to PacBay's college counselor, Ms. Ho. For a small school with limited resources, this was a top-notch service that we believe is very important for a high school to provide. PacBay students' rate of college acceptance to top tier schools is very competitive and impressive. All in all, our son had an amazing experience at PacBay and we can say he truly flourished and thrived. He has excellent study skills and habits and learned accountability through leadership opportunities. We feel very satisfied in his preparedness for college as he has become a well disciplined and independent individual, learning to advocate for himself and take charge of his academic and athletic growth. PacBay was an excellent place for him as a nonconventional person, thinking outside the box and leveraging his unique ideas and desire to build and tinker. We feel blessed that teachers and peers recognized and celebrated his enthusiasm for learning and he has made many good friends.

Every morning she is out greeting the kids (ALL she knows by name) and parents. She will stop and take the time to speak with anyone who has a suggestion or concern. AND she goes to all school functions. Besides that, she is a fun person with a great personality. The parents are very friendly...you always feel welcome there. I honestly wasn't expecting the other parents to be so involved and so nice to be around. This makes you want to go to all functions because you know you will have a blast. I can't speak for all teachers...but the kids I know all seem happy with their teachers. MY sons kindegarten teacher is top notch in my book! Mrs. Claussen has a wonderful way of being warm and loving with the kids and at the same time, is no pushover and the kids respect her for that. She has a great sense of humor and a wonderful teaching style. There's my 2 cents (more like 80 cents!) If you are deciding whether to have your child attend John Muir, please call Dr. Dunleavy and schedule a tour, you will not be disappointed.

We are only leaving because we want to start preschool. The whole time, even through the challenging time of COVID, this daycare has been excellent. The teachers are thoughtful, loving, and great teachers. They really got her on a easy schedule of naps throughout her life - first two naps and now down to 1 nap or just 'resting'. They cook lunch for her each day! One thing we really appreciated as two working adults - the daycare never had to close unexpectedly because there are multiple teachers. I want to emphasize that this was true even during COVID. Our daughter has developed into a polite, curious girl, interested in nature and books, mostly potty trained (still the occasional accident), and most amazingly of all - can speak Chinese. We really could not have asked for more. I think this daycare is above and beyond and we will certainly send our next child there.

They are very warm but also good at teaching and my son has grown up and learned so much with them. He went from zero mandarin to being pretty fluent. He's also become more responsible from learning from the teachers and the Montessori environment. It's mixed ages and he's an older kid in the class so I wish he has more older kids to play with, but I also appreciate that this helped him be a good big brother to his little sister and how to be a leader. I also appreciate that the teachers are much more modern and have a broader perspective. My old school Chinese teachers I had growing up were either too strict or had much the do or because I said so approach versus explaining things so kids can actually learn. I really appreciate that MBL are all about teaching the kids with logic and openness. With the parents, the teachers were always very responsive over text and very helpful in the parent teacher conferences. Also as a busy working parent, I really appreciate that they provide lunch as part of the tuition fee, so all we had to pack was a water bottle. Any cons? It's a home based daycare so it's not a fancy big school facility. (I think reading books about going to school initially got my kid all hyped about a fancy big playground and school campus). But they keep it very clean and for the time was there my son never got Covid from the school, there was never a Covid closure, and he rarely got sick (maybe 2x over 2 years). I think this was s both because they do a good job cleaning and because of the small class size and high teacher to student ratio.
