The Houston Texas Workforce Commission system has felt profoundly disorganized, dismissive, and deeply discouraging to navigate. At a time when vulnerable people are coming to them in genuine need of help, guidance, and timely support, the experience instead can feel cold, bureaucratic, and painfully indifferent. What has been most heartbreaking is not simply delays or confusion, but the feeling that human beings in crisis are too often treated like paperwork instead of people. When someone's health, livelihood, dignity, and future are hanging in the balance, a system entrusted to help should never leave a person feeling abandoned, unheard, or defeated. I entered this process hoping for advocacy and meaningful assistance. Instead, I have too often been met with contradictions, lack of clarity, poor communication, and decisions that seem disconnected from the real-life consequences they carry. No one seeking help through a vocational rehabilitation program should walk away feeling more hopeless than when they arrived. It's a horrifying program and should be shut down. read more

I'm leaving one star in hopes that someone reads this that has some sort of power and at least gives it some thought. This place is clean, the computers worked, the staff were mostly nice and helpful. EXCEPT the woman security guard that worked there on March 01, 2024. She was horrible. The other staff was busy helping other ppl so I went up to her since she was just wondering the area and coming my direction. I asked what the wifi password was and she looked past me and pointed to a small sign taped on a board that was not visible unless you were leaving the restrooms. Then there was a woman on the row behind me that set her phone on the magazine rack next to the bathrooms so it could charge, with the speaker phone on at full volume so she could hear the ppl talking on the other end while working at the computer station. The security guard went over to her and before she could say anything the woman said "I'm sorry it's my brother calling from jail" For whatever reason that was an ok excuse not to take the call outside or at least off speaker phone at full volume to distract everyone else in the building. Later I unfortunately had to ask the guard for help again, locating the fax machine and instead of telling me, she once again just pointed in a general direction and walked away. It was getting close to closing time and she walks up to me and says to "pack up we're closing" but to no one else in the room. 20 seconds after the guard tells me they are closing right now, another woman announces to the room that they are closing in 15 min. Lastly, I'm trying to fax documents to my hearing officer for a trial coming up and I'm waiting for the confirmation sheet to print out so I know it was sent. She comes over to me aggressively said "what are you doing? I already tol you we done closed." 1. No she didn't. She told me that 15 min ago when they were not closed. 2. Once I told her what I was doing another staff member came over to defuse the situation so she would walk away from me. Then he asked how many papers I sent to try and guess how much longer it would take. I sent 8 pages 3. After telling the gentleman how many pages I had and watching it print my conformation sheet, I looked at my phone to check the time and it was 4:54pm and I got to my car at 4:57pm. I wasn't able to finish what I was faxing. I still had one more to send. Now I have to find some other place that has a fax machine but pay for it because these people couldn't stand getting out of there at 5pm when the building actually closes. read more
