My son began Kumon the summer prior to entering kindergarten and he was fully reading at the start of kindergarten and I have noticed that his spelling is very strong as a result of the Kumon method of learning word blends. My daughter absolutely loves math because I think Kumon has given her great confidence in her math capabilities and she often tells me she likes Kumon because she already knows how to do the math that is being taught in her classroom. It's a cycle - because she feels good at math and likes being ahead of the curve, she enjoys math more. Kerri O'Brien runs the center and is fantastic. She knows her students and is very on top of each student and what level they are at. She is available to meet anytime I have questions and she responds quickly to emails. The center is organized and run like a well-oiled machine. It's a calm environment for kids - not stressful at all. I should also mention that Kumon is great during the summer because it keeps your children from having the "summer slip" because they are doing their daily packets of work and keeping on top of their academic skills. I have been very pleased with my Kumon experience. I was hesitant to go down the Kumon road, but when I took my kids to be evaluated, they begged me to do it and have enjoyed it ever since. If ever there is a time when the packets of work are taking too long, I just asked Kerri to give less pages to my kids and that solves any problems of it ever feeling overwhelming to them. They were looking for the lowest common dominator in terms of setting expectations for our daughter. Neal Schwartz was different. We decided to enroll her at 3 years old last year once she aged out of early intervention. I lived in Westchester at the time and as soon as I walked in I knew I wanted her at Seton after touring other schools. The facility is beautiful and staff goes above and beyond. My daughter was lucky enough to be in Ms. Melissa's class (we adore her!) Not only do the children get classroom learning time through the entire day, they have nurses on site to administer my daughter's g-tube feed, she gets OT, Speech and PT as well. They have a beautiful outdoor space. My daughter has thrived and flourished beautifully in this program. I could not ask for more. We recently moved out of district to Nanuet, NY and with the help of the school and my daughter's medical team we were able to keep her another year at Seton. This place has been a blessing for us. It's extremely difficult to trust anyone will care for your medical needs child as well as yourself but I fully trust the staff at Seton.
