My daughter Val absolutely lost her love of learning during her hybrid/COVID school year, despite all of our attempts to keep her engaged. My husband and I ended up moving our family out of state for three years and things only got worse for her, beginning with uncharacteristic behavioral changes both in school and at home. We decided to move back to Westchester, and the first thing we did was enroll Val for summer tutoring because we could not handle the tears and negotiations when it came to homework and the general apathy towards school. Something wasn't right, and we could not figure out what it was, and for 2 years, her teachers had no suggestions that seemed to work. Alison assessed our rising fifth grader and determined that she was still reading and performing at a third-grade level. Our kid was two years behind in school in all areas, and no one caught this for over 2 years. We were doing everything right, and somehow it still went so wrong. Val was in a private school. We did homework together. We read together. It was the HLC assessments that pointed out her academic strengths and weaknesses and addressed how to best approach the academic inadequacies in the most effective ways. We decided to do an intensive summer program, five days a week for 10 weeks during the summer. We continued three times a week come September. In November 2023, Allison sat on a Zoom call with my husband and me, for the first quarter parent-teacher 5th-grade conferences, and before we said anything to her teachers, we wanted to wait and see how they assessed Val. Her school teachers confirmed what we were hoping. They confirmed that all of Val's hard work was paying off. She was reading and writing at a 5th grade level and was hitting all her benchmarks for math and reading. When Alison explained the intensive intervention that Val had completed, the teachers were shocked and never would have imagined how behind this kid had been just a few months prior. Val continued to work with Allison's incredible team three times a week, to continue this evolution and success the rest of the school year. We dropped to "summer maintenance" twice a week summer of 2024, knowing that middle school was just around the corner. Unfortunately, we did have to move away from Westchester again, but the invaluable skills and hard work paid off. My sixth-grade daughter just came home today with a report card stating her 3.1 GPA and is officially an Honor Roll student. Her science teacher has recommended her for honors science next year. While my husband and I have never been focused on grades, this achievement has undoubtedly changed how our daughter views herself academically and what she feels she is capable of. Alison listened. She let me cry. And then she got to work, constantly reassessing the best way to get my kid back on track. Not only is Val academically succeeding, she actively reads in her spare time, seeks out authors of books she's enjoyed independently, and has rave reviews from her teachers to date. Does she want to do her homework immediately after school? No. She's 12. Of course not. Does she voluntarily open her books on the weekend to review and get ahead? Also no. But she does it, and I watch as she utilizes the study skills HLC taught my kid, and then she comes home from school HAPPY. There's no profound way I can possibly express the level of gratitude I have. If sharing the success of one kid who was so turned off to learning, but found her way back to loving her education again, I hope that helps one parent to make the best decision they can and join the HLC community. Trust the process, it is an invaluable investment in your child's education and future.

They advised that the first step was a foundational test to assess their needs, followed by a meeting to discuss options. However, after the testing, I did not receive any meeting confirmation emails and had to call the office to remind them. Despite reiterating my daughter's need for summer help, during a subsequent Zoom meeting, the assistant director informed me they do not offer such services and promised to forward the meeting information, which never arrived. I've tried to move past this, but I remain unsettled. I will certainly caution anyone who asks about my experience and advise them against choosing this center.

This is my 3rd daycare and we've now been here over a year. The 2 prior daycares had their own varying degrees and points of horror, and so when searching for a new daycare, we looked long and hard. Laura immediately made me feel comfortable and is a warm and friendly person (a mom of 3 young kids herself). The daycare is clean and she is the most patient human being I have ever known. The other 2 teachers are also wonderful with my kiddos! I should also add she takes them to the park, so they always get outdoor time when weather permits, and facilitates field trips and enrichment activities throughout the year. This year she took them to the zoo, Bounce U, the Untermyer Gardens (during their garden unit), the pool, the fire house, and more. She has monthly puppet shows with an outside vendor, and parties throughout the year (for major holidays). She even had a special daycare holiday party and gift exchange where the kids performed little seasonal songs they'd been working on during circle time. As a teacher myself, schedule and routine were a big deal to me and Laura follows the Mother Goose Time curriculum. We've had units on space, the seasons, gardening, etc. She gives us a monthly newsletter that lists books we can buy to read at home with our kiddos to reinforce what they're doing during the day. She does activities that work on motor functions, including play dough and shaving cream. It's really amazing. I forgot to add this earlier, but for my daughter's birthday, we could only book her party at Bounce U on a weekday at 3pm, so Laura BROUGHT THE KIDS FROM THE DAYCARE to the party for me, so everyone could attend, and parents picked up from there instead of the daycare. The other teacher stayed back with the little ones who couldn't attend. She will come down to my car to get my kids if I am running late, I mean, it's really just above and beyond. I am actually very sad that my daughter's daycare years will be coming to an end next year and feel so bad for her that she has to transition to school and away from Laura. I am certain we found the best daycare in Yonkers. I would highly recommend her.

When he was about to turn three this past September, he moved into the 3, 4 and 5 year old class. That is when they noticed he had a hard time sitting still and focusing. He was about to age out of EI (Early Intervention) and start CPSE (Committee on Preschool Education), which would mean the therapists that were approved (Speech, SEIT and OT) could work with him in his classroom environment. However, MCR does NOT allow ANY therapists in this school to work with children who have been approved to receive it. So, we were left with no other choice, and had to scramble to find a new school in the middle of October of 2018. Not an easy task considering that most were already full by that point. Luckily we found a school that my son adores. It is a play based, loving and nurturing environment, that is so in tune with nature and outdoor play. I guess everything happens for a reason, and we were very fortunate to end up where we are now. MCR does wonderful things with the students, my son learned a lot in his time there. Their holiday show and graduation are amazing as well, along with their camp. That said, Montessori is not for every child, especially a child that requires therapy of any sort. What bothered me about our experience is how they didn't give me any feedback of his behavior in the baby class (NK) prior to moving up. We did have parent teacher conferences twice in the school year, but they never spoke about how he was disruptive, couldn't focus or sit still. Had I known this was going to be an issue, we could have looked for other schools before he started in the toddler class. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, as we felt forced out of there in a way. In closing, I debated on whether or not to write a review about my experience with this school. However, I recently learned the same thing is happening with another child there, so I wanted to give other parents a heads up before you consider going to this school.
