I am not sure if i went here as a kid and my girlfriend had no idea if she had been either so on a rainy bank holiday we decided to give it a go.
Right from the off it went down hill with the price. £18 each! Lucky i am a student so both in for £30, but £30 for half a day is pricy, hope it will be worth it.
We are told the cave queue is long so to go to the mill first, thru the gift shop. Although a useful piece of advice it means you are going against the flow of all the other people and also away from the signs, so hard to navigate.
We stumble into the circus show, a real good show starring young entertainers who are all fantastic, yes its more for kids, but the skills and pace are outstanding we thought.
We then stumbled around trying to find our way to the caves, around some plastic dinosaurs, not a great area really, for the cost. Got lost in a loop and at the far end discover a map showing we are the opposite end of the complex to the caves, seeing as it is raining heavily the whole time this was not pleasing.
Stroll back thru the confusing maze of shops and passage ways past the other slightly dated and poor areas, and thru the penny arcade for the 3rd or fourth time. Quick whizz around the mirror maze which is more a corridor really, vague entertainment.
Back out to the rain. Crazy golf is quiet due to the rain so we have a round. This provided some hilarious entertainment as it is made harder with balls disappearing into deep puddles. We are now drenched and growing gradually worse at golfing skills. Probably the funniest time of the day.
A fair walk up to the caves still a queue but lucky enough to be under the small stretch of covered walk way near the entrance (about 50m). After quite some time queuing and others becoming verbally impatient we are allowed into the caves. You have to follow a guide who is informative and interesting and available for questions at the end. The tour is good but not great and certainly lacking for the cost (£60+ for a family). would have preferred more time to take a few photos instead of a quick glance thru the tour guides flash light for some things. We exit the caves to discover we are back in the dinosaur park and have already covered most of the attractions. we decide the restaurants are probably huge cost for little food and bad quality (should have checked them out really) so we opt for buying some Cheese and heading home.
Overall
Interesting cave tour but seems fairly short and lacking compared to Cheddar, would have liked more time to have a look around to ourselves. All other attractions fairly cheap and dated but the circus show is certainly worth a look in. There is some minor activities for kids and i am sure young (under 8) children may enjoy some of it. However i heard one kid in the dinosaur section saying "This is all so fake i have been ripped off" he was about 10. I had to laugh!
Crazy Golf is £4 for adults without the other attractions (worth a giggle).
All seems hideously over priced for what it is and that was for two of us with no food or drink so good luck if there is more of you! There is an annual pass option but we covered everything (most things two or three times) in an afternoon in no rush. Can't say i would recommend it really unless i knew a lottery winner who liked to burn money!
If you do give it a go the Cheese is excellent so grab some on the way out, not a bad price and certainly very tasty. My advice is buy some cheese and skip the rest. read more
