Sentinel Butte, ND is a small town, but not without its charm. Sure, you've heard of Beach, ND…read more.. I mean, who hasn't driven the I-94 from Montana into NoDak and thought, "So this is what a Beach is?!?!" But just a couple of minutes down the road is sleepy little Sentinel Butte, home to a growing herd of Angus that will knock your socks off. The Dietz family has been managing their herd for many years out on Gaffy St. and the fact is, one of the secrets to maintaining the highest standards in cattle production is: GREAT BULLS. Fact is, Dietz has a team of bulls that know what to do, and are happy to do it. One of their champions, Cedar Ridge, is a very impressive animal. But as any good cattleman will tell you, it's not just about putting a bull out in the field with the cows and letting nature take its course; there's a lot more to it than that. The health of the animals is critical, especially here in higher latitudes that see some cold winters. There are some, how shall we say... "developmental milestones"... that go into managing herds, too. Ever wonder the difference between a bull and a steer? It's all in the piano wire, kids. Or at least, Google up "Henderson Castrating Tool"... you can thank me later. In any event, I can't imagine when I might be in the market to buy a few head of cattle, but someday... when I'm ready to build my ranch out there in NoDak... probably about the time the planet has warmed up such that it's 145 degrees in SoCal in the summer, and I'll need a better place to live... when THAT happens, I'm buying my cattle from the Dietz family, and you can take that to the bank.
