You just have to find your spot. The sites are very close together. The bathrooms are outdated, dark, and in need of repair. Our site was littered with cigarette butts. This campground needs some serious TLC to be ranked as one of the top five state campgrounds. The one good thing is that the water in the showers was hot!

There was a good amount of people but it didn't feel crowded. There first stop was a little gift shop with and information desk, snack bar, and bathrooms. From there the trail to the forest giants was super easy to follow. After walking to the giants, I drove the path to see the Tin Man and canopy walks. I love how accessible all the big attractions were and how beautiful the forests are. It's worth stopping in if you're visiting the area or a local!

Bernheim is one my husband's and my favorite places to get away from it all and enjoy being with…read morenature. After an unusually cold winter, we recently had a day warm enough day to return to Bernheim, and we chose a shorter trail due to time constraints. We hiked the Knob Top Trail and really enjoyed the peacefulness on the trail (we saw no other people on this trail today). The Knob Top is not one of the more popular trails, but we really enjoyed it. It is rated by Bernheim as "Difficult," but I would say it is moderate. It can be hiked as an in and out (this is what we chose to do) or as a connector between "Two Ponds Loop' and "Lake Nevin Loop." It is a short trail, only 0.5 mi in and 0.5 miles out. The terrain is packed dirt, and as expected, included tree roots, rocks, mounds, ruts, and other obstacles. The hike is a gradual incline to the top (Inspiration Knob) where there is a pretty, green, decommissioned water tank. This was a perfect, short hike to ease into hiking season! We participated in an afternoon tour of My Old Kentucky Home and received a group rate of $12 per person since we purchased at least 10 tickets. The tour of the home is self-guided and typically takes less than an hour and then can allow extra time if needed to check out the grounds and/or the gift shop. On this day, however, we had a wonderful tour guide who was impressive with her knowledge about the house and the residents. The house is beautifully maintained and the grounds are also pristine. The visitor center had seating with the option to view a film while waiting. There is also a gift shop filled to the brim with a multitude of items. Plenty of parking. Restroom facilities are well maintained. Overall, a well maintained historical property.

According to KY legend, Stephen Foster wrote the song "My Old Kentucky Home" that became the offical state song, while staying at Federal Hill. The park has a beautiful visitors center and the staff in the visitors center was very welcoming and quite knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the timing didn't work for us to take a tour of the manison (hours are on the hour and last 45 minutes). We missed the 2pm tour and couldn't do the 3pm tour since we needed to be back in Louisville to pick up the grandkids. We did, however, take a walking tour of the grounds and we got to see the outside of the manison, the gazebo, the spring house and the Stephen Foster statue. We were there on a beautiful (70 degree) day in February. Despite today's beautiful weather, the gardens still thought it was winter. We want to come back when the gardens are in bloom and when we have time to take a tour of the manison. Admission to the state park and the grounds is FREE. There is a charge for a guided tour of the manison.

Our group of friends made the drive from Louisville to stop at this park with a specific plan to…read morevisit the wind phone installation located on the Wilson Trail behind the ball fields. We are currently researching plans for our own wind phone and had wanted to see an example of one already in use. The paved trail winds around behind the ball fields and then becomes a mulched path into the woods. The path is fairly steep and passes by a clearing with a circle of log seating and then continues down a hill until it reveals a creek. Turning to the left, the trail continues and we soon find the box for the prior wind phone installation; however, it seems that vandalism took place because the rotary dial phone is missing. Nice trails and difficulty rating is mild to moderate walk, The hope is to return sometime again soon and that the wind phone installation will be restored for use. Very large paved parking lot. Porta-potty restroom facilities. Multiple well-maintained ball fields.

It offers 2-3 trails with varying distances. The loop we hiked was about a mile and moderately difficult. There were hills, roots, and some rocks to navigate. The trail had mulch to help avoid mud pits. Sadly, the lake/ pond was really low so the water feature wasn't pretty. But it got us moving and burned off some of the calories we consumed!

It's absolutely beautiful, and Bardstown is no exception. The downtown area is so cute! It's lined with shops, bars, and restaurants, and it's extremely walkable. It's a great place to visit for a day trip. There's plenty to do, and because it's small, it can all be done in a day or weekend, so you won't feel like you're missing anything. Outside of the downtown area you'll still find lots of fun stuff to experience, like My Old Kentucky Home State Park, multiple museums, historic sites, and of course - distilleries! If you're looking for a fun place to visit, the city of Bardstown is a great one!

Excellent tour. I had this on my things to do list and passed it in the morning. Since my other…read moretour was short I decided to hit this up. I called just before 4 pm and the man said I would make the last tour. I was the only one but how sweet to let me go through. Malory was my guide and she did an excellent job. She was probably surprised at all the notes I was taking. I even had to have her spell some of the words. It is a little scary when you go to the door in the side of a mountain and it is pitch black. You only have to walk a few feet and then you enter another door to the cave. It can get cold and drops do fall on you so wear appropriate clothing or hats. You also have to go down (I think she said 73 steps) and the stairs are narrow. Wear good tennis shoes or boots. Very interesting cavern and this was my first. Interesting fact: Squire Boone is buried in the cavern. Truth and interesting story as to why. There are a lot of things to do but because I came late and spent an hour on the tour all the other shops were closed down. There is a large gravel parking lot, so you park wherever. They have animals you may feed too. This is at least a two-three hour visit, so get there by noon. I visited May 31, 2023. $24 entrance

My husband surprised me for my very first Mother's Day, with tickets to the Mother's Day event at…read morethe botanical gardens! Upon arrival we were told we cannot bring my very small, ESA dog into the event despite it being an animal friendly establishment. We were also told we are not allowed to leave him in the car, that we essentially needed to leave. Again, my first Mother's Day, refused because I require a service dog. This is a prime example, of a human being, failing to have human kindness or understanding.
