I loved my visit to Bernheim Forest! I can't believe how long it took for me to visit…read more I visited on a sunny, 75 degree, Saturday afternoon. There was a good amount of people but it didn't feel crowded. There first stop was a little gift shop with and information desk, snack bar, and bathrooms. From there the trail to the forest giants was super easy to follow. After walking to the giants, I drove the path to see the Tin Man and canopy walks. I love how accessible all the big attractions were and how beautiful the forests are. It's worth stopping in if you're visiting the area or a local!

After an unusually cold winter, we recently had a day warm enough day to return to Bernheim, and we chose a shorter trail due to time constraints. We hiked the Knob Top Trail and really enjoyed the peacefulness on the trail (we saw no other people on this trail today). The Knob Top is not one of the more popular trails, but we really enjoyed it. It is rated by Bernheim as "Difficult," but I would say it is moderate. It can be hiked as an in and out (this is what we chose to do) or as a connector between "Two Ponds Loop' and "Lake Nevin Loop." It is a short trail, only 0.5 mi in and 0.5 miles out. The terrain is packed dirt, and as expected, included tree roots, rocks, mounds, ruts, and other obstacles. The hike is a gradual incline to the top (Inspiration Knob) where there is a pretty, green, decommissioned water tank. This was a perfect, short hike to ease into hiking season! Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash. Photos added to my original review of Bernheim Forest.

Really enjoyed our visit to My Old Kentucky Home State Park!…read more My fiancé and I stayed in Bardstown for a few days so we decided to check out this state park since we had heard good things. So glad we did! We walked into the visitor center and had no issues booking a tour. We took a causal stroll around the grounds before heading to the beautiful mansion. There we had Kit show us around the house and gave us the history of the Rowan family, who owned built the house in 1795. She was so kind and informative! You learn about the Rowan's and their cousin, Stephen Foster, who was inspired by the house for his song " My Old Kentucky Home." We appreciated that they also include the history and stories of the enslaved people who lived and worked on the grounds. This is a must visit when in Kentucky!

We participated in an afternoon tour of My Old Kentucky Home and received a group rate of $12 per person since we purchased at least 10 tickets. The tour of the home is self-guided and typically takes less than an hour and then can allow extra time if needed to check out the grounds and/or the gift shop. On this day, however, we had a wonderful tour guide who was impressive with her knowledge about the house and the residents. The house is beautifully maintained and the grounds are also pristine. The visitor center had seating with the option to view a film while waiting. There is also a gift shop filled to the brim with a multitude of items. Plenty of parking. Restroom facilities are well maintained. Overall, a well maintained historical property.

My wife and I could walk the trails and enjoy the beautifully landscaped flowers and trees at no cost. The atmosphere was fantastic, peaceful, refreshing, and uplifting. There was also live music outdoors, where people could enjoy food, wine, and beer in a lovely setting. This place is truly charming and relaxing. Now I know I've found a hidden jam. I'll look forward to visiting here on the Last friday of each month (April through October).

Every visit feels fresh and different--sometimes we come to stroll the gardens slowly and soak in the seasonal blooms, other times just to let the kids run and enjoy the open spaces. The grounds are gorgeous and so thoughtfully designed, with little nooks and trails that invite you to pause, notice, and breathe. There's a sense of calm and restoration here that's hard to find anywhere else. My entire family loves coming, and it's become one of our go-to places whenever we want to recharge or spend time together outdoors. Whether you're a gardener, a parent, or someone who just loves natural beauty, I can't recommend Yew Dell Gardens enough. It's a gem for the whole community.
