We selected this campground since it was in the center of the Bourbon Trail. We love to stay at…read morestate campgrounds BUT we were surprised by its condition. No one greets you when checking in. You just have to find your spot. The sites are very close together. The bathrooms are outdated, dark, and in need of repair. Our site was littered with cigarette butts. This campground needs some serious TLC to be ranked as one of the top five state campgrounds. The one good thing is that the water in the showers was hot!

There are water and dirt/sand play spaces, so may want to pack extra clothes for the ride home. There are plenty of paved or gravel paths as well as backcountry trails. Pack a lunch and stay all day! If you're walking the giants path, there is often a snow cone truck parked near Mama Loumari on the weekends. They also offer plenty of family events, so be sure to check the calendar. It is $15 per car to enter or $75 for an annual pass. We find it totally worth the pass as a family who drives from Louisville. Leashed dogs are welcome. Remember to bring your bags to clean up after them :)

Catching up on an overlooked review for the annual Indigenous Peoples Powwow held at Bernheim in…read more2025. The scheduled 2026 Powwow was cancelled due to weather event. Hoping this will still be rescheduled for this year or at the very least that it will return in 2027. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience and being exposed to a special cultural event. Tribes from across the nation were on site. We had several opportunities to interact with various members of the tribes in attendance and questions were welcomed and answered. I believe members as far away as North Dakota had traveled here to participate. The beading and decorative embroidery on the clothing was explained. These are NOT costumes, which is terminology that is considered an insult. It was explained regarding the difference in that these are their clothes and not some sort of dress up play acting session. The drumming and dancing was also explained. We were also able to try fry bread and several other food items, which was an epic experience to have at least a hinting glimpse into another culture. Looking forward to attending future powwows.

We participated in an afternoon tour of My Old Kentucky Home and received a group rate of $12 per person since we purchased at least 10 tickets. The tour of the home is self-guided and typically takes less than an hour and then can allow extra time if needed to check out the grounds and/or the gift shop. On this day, however, we had a wonderful tour guide who was impressive with her knowledge about the house and the residents. The house is beautifully maintained and the grounds are also pristine. The visitor center had seating with the option to view a film while waiting. There is also a gift shop filled to the brim with a multitude of items. Plenty of parking. Restroom facilities are well maintained. Overall, a well maintained historical property.

According to KY legend, Stephen Foster wrote the song "My Old Kentucky Home" that became the offical state song, while staying at Federal Hill. The park has a beautiful visitors center and the staff in the visitors center was very welcoming and quite knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the timing didn't work for us to take a tour of the manison (hours are on the hour and last 45 minutes). We missed the 2pm tour and couldn't do the 3pm tour since we needed to be back in Louisville to pick up the grandkids. We did, however, take a walking tour of the grounds and we got to see the outside of the manison, the gazebo, the spring house and the Stephen Foster statue. We were there on a beautiful (70 degree) day in February. Despite today's beautiful weather, the gardens still thought it was winter. We want to come back when the gardens are in bloom and when we have time to take a tour of the manison. Admission to the state park and the grounds is FREE. There is a charge for a guided tour of the manison.

It offers 2-3 trails with varying distances. The loop we hiked was about a mile and moderately difficult. There were hills, roots, and some rocks to navigate. The trail had mulch to help avoid mud pits. Sadly, the lake/ pond was really low so the water feature wasn't pretty. But it got us moving and burned off some of the calories we consumed!

It's absolutely beautiful, and Bardstown is no exception. The downtown area is so cute! It's lined with shops, bars, and restaurants, and it's extremely walkable. It's a great place to visit for a day trip. There's plenty to do, and because it's small, it can all be done in a day or weekend, so you won't feel like you're missing anything. Outside of the downtown area you'll still find lots of fun stuff to experience, like My Old Kentucky Home State Park, multiple museums, historic sites, and of course - distilleries! If you're looking for a fun place to visit, the city of Bardstown is a great one!

Bourbon City Bark Park is amazing! You can really tell that the members out there really care about…read moretheir park and dogs. It is amazing that people in our community have stepped up so that we can have this area for us and the dogs. They have been updating it for years, and it just continues to get better. I personally like the fact that they require current Rabies, DHPP/Parvo, and Bordetella vaccines and that they keep track of everyone who comes in with the FOB system. It's incredible to me that I can walk the paths and feel totally safe while my dogs run and play off-leash!
