Other than that, this building feels like a hotel, and I would definitely consider this in the future. The employees that come into the residential area are attentive. As a former Skilled Nursing Director, I knew it would be hard to find not just a care facility but a true community for her. She was my main concern. From the moment we arrived, we found exactly that! Danika, the Director, leads with compassion and strength. Olivia, the coordinator, brings a level of organization that made the transition feal seamless. Julie the secretary, greeted us with warmth every day. Making The Shores feel like home. Kaytlin, the activities director is slowly bringiing my non social mother back into life with her creativity and genuine joy. The employees ooze happiness with their jobs. The service is exceptional and its truly is a 5 star resort for the elderly. The menus are beyond brilliant and the food quality is a chefs kiss! The entertainment is beyond amazing, with numerous grand events to entertain family and the residents. Vivante isn't just an Assisted Living or Memory care facility. It is a touch of elegance that I am putting my name on the waiting list soon! I couldn't be happier with the care my mother is receiving. While what clearly was a life changing decision originally, moving into Vivante has proven time and again to be the best for both. Sadly, we lost our mom last month after an incredible fight she had been putting up for the past few years. Her last ten days truly showed us the incredible "loving care" by so many of Danica Coronel's TEAM. Now, over the years I have visited the facilities hundreds of times. I have gotten to know many of the caregivers, nurses, medtechs, servers, etc., and I have always felt good when leaving that my parents were in great hands. It is always clean and in good condition. We have enjoyed many great meals, met many residents & their families, and created some good memories (under the circumstances). Those "last ten days or so before her passing," REALLY opened my, and many of my family's eyes to the true depth of passion & caring of SO many of the Vivante staff (On the apartment side & especially in The Shores facility). From the smiling greetings by Jojo & Julie, the always positive Vince, Danica & Olivia, the incredibly joyful Alyssa (and mom Debbie), Krista, Ashlee, Elizabeth, Zoila, Jesus, Angela, Pilar, Irizella, Sara, lovely Aricelli who would make mom a nice cup of hot chocolate with a smile & warm words, to the cooks & servers, there are many more to mention. These past years have also opened my eyes to how difficult a job it is, especially to care for those with various stages/levels of dementia. Carmel Village is an acceptable place for seniors who are still fairly independent and only need…read moreminimal assistance, meals, and basic housekeeping. However, once a resident requires a higher level of care, our experience was extremely disappointing. My mom lived at Carmel Village for two years. During the last four months of her life, as her care needs increased, the quality of care declined significantly. While Carmel Village charged additional fees for every added service--which we understood and expected--the care that was promised was not the care that was provided. One of the biggest concerns was the call button service. We were told that staff strive to respond within 10 minutes, whether a resident needed help picking up a dropped remote or had fallen. During the first two weeks after my mom began using this service, she regularly waited 20, 30, and sometimes 45 minutes for someone to respond. We met with Ruby from the office, who apologized, said she would address the issue with staff, and even told us she would personally respond if it ever exceeded eight minutes. Unfortunately, we never saw that commitment reflected in what actually happened. 2 months later, after my mom returned from the hospital on hospice, the problems became even more serious. Carmel Village charged us a fee for coordinating with our outside hospice provider, but we repeatedly found ourselves reminding staff when medications or supplies were running low because many caregivers seemed unfamiliar with hospice procedures. My mom was bedridden and had physician's orders to be repositioned every two hours to prevent pressure sores, yet there were many times when my sister and I were there for hours without anyone coming in to turn her. We also found ourselves constantly correcting mistakes involving meals and medications. My mom remained mentally sharp until the very end of her life, and it was heartbreaking to watch her concerns be dismissed even though she was often correct. Instead of being able to spend our time simply being daughters, my sister and I had to be at Carmel Village every day for several hours just to make sure our mom received the care she needed. During the final three weeks of her life, we had already begun making plans to move her to elsewhere because the situation had become so concerning. We also involved the Long-Term Care Ombudsman and held weekly meetings with the Carmel Village director, Mandy, and her staff in hopes of improving communication and resolving ongoing issues. Unfortunately, many of the same concerns continued from week to week, and Mandy often responded as though she were hearing about them for the first time, It became she is very out of touch about what really goes on in the rooms of the residents compared to what she THINKS the Med Techs and Caregivers are actually doing. We observed it all first-hand by sitting in my mom's room for hours every day. Choosing an assisted living facility is one of the most important decisions a family can make. Based on our experience, Carmel Village may be suitable for someone who only needs minimal assistance, but I cannot recommend it for anyone who requires significant daily care or hospice support. The promises made did not match the care my mom actually received, and I would not trust Carmel Village with the care of a loved one whose needs extend beyond basic assisted living.

A Caution to Families Considering Clearwater Assisted Living in Newport Beach…read moreMy uncle has lived at Clearwater Newport Beach for over 2.5 years. For much of that time, it felt like home. The residents and families are warm and welcoming, and many longtime staff members are truly exceptional. There is a lot to love about this community. However, after numerous management changes--including an estimated seventh or eighth director since the community opened in 2024--my experience has changed significantly. My biggest concern is the consistency of resident care and management's response when problems are reported. Staff turnover among care partners has been high, and new employees may not know residents' individual needs and schedules. When I raise concerns, I am too often met with responses such as "the care partner said they did it" or "that's not our job," rather than accountability and a plan to prevent the problem from happening again. For example, my uncle has repeatedly been late to personal training appointments because staff failed to bring him to the gym, despite advance calls and daily reminders from both his trainer and me. Management recently suggested that his private trainer should retrieve him from his room, help him dress, and wheel him downstairs. Yet we pay Clearwater to assist with his dressing, hygiene, and daily needs. His trainer is not a home health aide, and for two years, these appointments had not been a recurring problem. This is more than an inconvenience. Keeping my uncle strong enough to stand and walk is essential to his mobility, independence, and well-being. The gym is inside the building, yet ensuring he gets there on time has become a struggle. There was also a serious problem with timely transportation for his radiation appointments. After the Clearwater refused to transport him and after he was brought down late for private shuttle pickup, I had to take five weeks off work to drive him myself and help ensure his cancer treatment was not disrupted again. These experiences are especially disappointing because I had not encountered this pattern of problems in the same way under previous management. Clearwater is an affordable option, and the absence of a community fee may appeal to families comparing assisted-living residences. However, families should understand that consistent care cannot be taken for granted. There are wonderful employees, but you cannot choose who will be assigned to your loved one each shift. My advice to prospective families: Visit several times, meet with the director and nursing and Resident Care coordination: Health Service Assistant manager, and ask detailed questions about staffing, accountability, hygiene, medication management, transportation, and how individual care needs are communicated between shifts. Make sure you understand each manager's responsibilities and feel confident that concerns will be addressed rather than deflected. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that families live nearby and be prepared to visit frequently--ideally four to five times a week--to monitor their loved one's care. If you are considering moving someone in, I would also consider waiting until the current Resident Care Coordinator / Health Service Assistant management and staffing changes have had time to settle. I hope the new leadership will use the coming months to strengthen communication, support staff, and restore families' confidence. Clearwater has the potential to be an excellent community, and many of its employees already demonstrate the compassion residents deserve. Clearwater's promise of anticipating residents' needs must be reflected in everyday care, not just in its philosophy. Our loved ones deserve dignity, reliability, and accountability--especially when they cannot advocate for themselves. I sincerely hope this community gets back to the standard of care that made it feel like home.

William took the time to address all my questions and concerns thoughtfully, both in person and later during a conference call and follow-up tour with my siblings. We knew immediately that Forever Young was the best memory care home for our dad, and we added our name to the waitlist. As dad's disease progressed rapidly, we toured other residential and larger memory care facilities. Each visit only reaffirmed our decision to wait for Forever Young. During this period, William also provided valuable recommendations for equipment to help dad stay safe while he remained at home. Now, eight months into dad's residency at Forever Young our gratitude for William and his caregiving team has only deepened. The caregivers are genuine, kind, compassionate, and loving--truly exceptional. They know dad so well that they can anticipate his needs, which not only ensures outstanding care but also helps reduce his frustrations with his condition. The staff frequently send me pictures of dad participating in activities, which is such a comfort. Meals are carefully prepared to be both nutritious and tailored to the residents' preferences and abilities. Dad has the freedom to come and go and we can visit anytime. Knowing he is in a place where he is genuinely cared for and understood brings us immeasurable peace. There truly is no better place for dad to be.

His home was extremely clean and well kept. William was exceptionally resourceful - connecting me with proper professionals in the hospice and MediCal consulting arenas. This was especially important as we had no idea how to proceed with these services. In William's care and experienced advisement, my dad lived as well as anyone could in his situation. His end of life was filled with love and affection. The team was patient and loving to our family's accommodations as we navigated that terribly sensitive time in our lives. William is someone you will immediately bond with and keep a relationship with throughout time. That is how deeply impactful his approach and communication is with his families. I am forever grateful for William in every regard and know that if you choose to be a family in his residence, you too will feel secure and blessed!
