The kids all got to pet and love on the ponies, "help" clean the pony stall (pretty sure this was my 2 year old's favorite part), and then ride the ponies around the paddock. We loved it so much we ended up hosting my kids' birthday party here about 2 months later. It was such a hit with everyone that was able to make it. They had a beautiful patio area (with great shade from the heat) set up for us. It made set-up on my part incredibly easy. The kids got to ride Ricky around with Cowboy Justus leading them. He was so great to all the kids, and they had so much fun. Miss D was so helpful (and the absolute sweetest) with everything, and the kids really enjoyed following her around to feed the goats and chickens. The animals all were very kind and gentle with the kids, and seem very well socialized. Clean-up was so easy. 10/10 would go again.

The views are of the park, adjacent street, back of the zoo fencing, & a parking lot. You can enjoy areas of nature in the park. The ride is smooth & uneventful. You don't pass by anything specific to a train experience or go under or through anything. There is a loose, thin cloth that covers the wooden seat. Although there's signage that the conductor can assist with boarding if needed, I imagine accessibility issues for some. To get into the seats in the section we found available required having to climb over the edge into the car, which had no door. I'm petite & it wasn't the easiest with my legs. However, in other posted photos, it seems a few seats in the front of the train have cutouts to walk into to make boarding easier. It's a cute experience for little ones to enjoy.

There was a staff member standing there for about five minutes in her empty line. Finally, she calls me over and asked if she can help check me in for their party. She checks me in like normal, and as soon as she gives my child, a wristband and socks, she leaves and walks away. I was standing there confused. She didn't tell us which room to go to nor did she say that the check in has been completed. I asked the other cashier to direct me to the correct party and she was able to give me that information. Of course, my kids love jumping, and the mini playground that they have here. On top of trying to make it to a timed party, there is no doubt that finding parking in the parking lot can take about five minutes. The lack of parking is frustrating to say the least. As far as customer service, I'd have to give it a solid two out of five.

Completely worth the time and money. Highly recommend it. That being said, these are more suggestions than complaints. They have the standard admission and then a bunch of add on experiences. I got all of them for our group except for swimming with the rays. I booked it as a party. 1. There was no way to manage this through the web site. Luckily they assigned me a contact who helped with the organization 2. When we got there with 14 people it seemed disorganized. They had schedules for us, but we never saw them. Not everyone could do everything at once, they had to split our group, this was not managed well/. A group our size needs to be managed, not told "we can do what you want." Especially since we didn't know what we could do or the schedule of events We did get to do everything. 3. The description of the wildlife encounters made it seem like you'd be in a room playing with them. The reality is they were very controlled encounters and some you just got to feed the animal from a distance. 4. There is a schedule of feeding and touching events but it's not posted anywhere so it's catch as catch can. Our group did a lot of wandering not sure of what we were supposed to do. 5. There wasn't a lot of education on the animals some, but could have been in more depth, and better focused for the younger kids 6. They give you tokens to use to participate in some experiences. We had far too many tokens. Part of the reason is I had to change our booking date to a less expensive date. They don't do refunds so they gave us more tokens. There was just no way we could use them all. Let me be clear, we got to do everything, everyone had a great time. These are just things we feel they could improve. Completely worth the visit. I think for the encounter experiences we could have just signed the kids up and still have been happy.

We've been visiting NorCal Aquarium & Wildlife for years, and this is the best we've ever seen it…read more The improvements are obvious to anyone who's been coming here for a while. Fresh paint, upgraded exhibits, and a renewed focus on the animals have completely changed the feel of the place. More importantly, the animals look happy, healthy, and well cared for. From the birds, giant fish, iguanas, capybaras, armadillos, and snakes to the incredible stingray and shark exhibits, there's something fascinating around every corner. The ability to feed animals and even swim or dive with stingrays and sharks takes the experience to another level. Meeting Ben, the new owner, made it clear why the place feels different. His passion for the animals and genuine care for guests shines through in everything they're doing. Talking with him left us excited for what's still to come, and all the new ideas he has planned for the future! It's exciting to see the direction this place is heading. Park at the far end from the lot entrance to be situated closer to the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center is small, but clean, organized, & packed with lots of facts & information. Some areas offered hands-on experiences. They also had coloring sheets for kids. Giant fish heads offer a listening experience teaching about the Chinook Salmon & Steelhead Trout. We enjoyed wandering around. Restrooms are available & were maintained. Just watch out for some spiders on the ceiling above. We went out to the hatchery early enough to get to scoop up some free fish food by the gate with available containers. It ran out while we were still there. It was a very cool experience to see the fish go into a feeding frenzy! Do keep the gate closed, which is posted on a sign. Some people weren't being attentive. There are observation points & a lovely trail to walk along the river with some informative signs here & there. It was so pleasant to take in the pretty, peaceful scenery & watch birds. We hope to return to see more action with the salmon & trout from November to February. Do check their website for up-to-date visitor information as they close the facility to the public after Memorial Day until Labor Day & times may be subject to change.

They host plenty of family friendly educational events, including tot-time story time every month. Plenty of school outings/field trips come here, but they are open to the regular public to explore and observe. They are attached to the American River Hatchery, which has plenty of spawning pens where you can closely observe the fish and occasionally feed them (until the food runs out). Highly recommended!

Admission was $10 for anyone over age 2. No paper maps are available, but there is a map on display by the entrance that you can snap a photo of. There are elevation changes & paths to different sections, but it's a fairly easy stroll & not very big. A lot of trees provide shade & there are some benches. We saw bears, roaming peacocks, a coyote, zebu, raccoons, macaques, bobcats, many kinds of birds, donkey, horses, & more. Getting a good look at some of the animals was hit or miss. Signage gives information & facts about the animals, stories of how they came to the Sanctuary, & their names. A small gift shop is onsite with a variety of items. The staff we interacted with were friendly & helpful.

Gripe number two, the lifeguards. Bros... chillll the F out! While I admire and respect their commitment to safety, they are a bit overzealous in regards to their enforcement of the rules. I wonder if because there are so many of them that they need to find any little thing to jump on to but the vigor that they use to address even the most minor violation such as kids running or hanging on the swim lines is so out of proportion that it is a bit absurd. I can't help but mess with them a little bit just out of spite. Aside from the issues mentioned it is a pretty cool place with a variety of options (waterside and kiddie area) that make for a fun way to beat the heat.
