Without question the worst experience I've ever had with medical professionals. I was harassed, judged and lectured by the technologist, Deb, who was supposed to preform my mammogram.
I am 31 years old and wanted am exam due to my extensive family history of breast cancer and because of a concerning area in one of my breasts. Instead, I was chastised about my use birth control, the use of condoms and questioned about my preparedness to have a child. This was beyond unprofessional and far outside this woman's scope of practice. I am a married woman and how I choose to handle my reproductive health is none of her business.
After refusing me the exam on the basis that she believed I could be pregnant, I asked to speak to the practice manager. The radiologist came to speak with me and I told him about the beyond inappropriate behavior of his staff and he eventually apologized, agreeing that she was in the wrong. I agreed to a suggested pregnancy test to prove I was not pregnant and to my surprise and extreme disappointment I was told they didn't carry them. I was forced to leave the facility, go to the pharmacy down the street and purchase a pregnancy test! I then had to come back and take it in their waiting room restroom. After confirming what I already told them, they proceeded with my scheduled exam.
I cannot believe how poorly I was treated and that I actually had to leave and return to provide this type of evidence. I am sure that none of the women of "typical" age for a mammogram get treated like that. They should be ashamed! read more
