My wife and I have been trying to have a baby for several months so we decided to get some…read morefertility testing just to make sure there aren't any problems because we are older. I called several clinics to schedule an appt for a semen analysis but they were all booked up for a couple months except for The Reproductive Medicine Group in Wesley Chapel that was only a 1.5 week wait. I scheduled the appt but they are only open during regular weekday hours so I had to take a vacation day in order to have an appt with them. She asked me if I have a referral and who the practitioner is. When I told her it was me and I'm a practitioner referring myself she said that was fine before getting my NPI and license number. I had to abstain for 4 days that unfortunately coincided with my wife's ovulation window. I took off from work, which isn't easy, and drove 45 minutes to my appt. I checked in and gave them my referral. Then she asked for the $140 fee and I paid it. I waited in the lobby for 15 minutes and then the receptionist came back and said they can't accept the referral because it was from me. I told her that when I made the appt I let her know it was a self referral and that I was told it was fine. She said that was wrong of her to tell me that. I asked her why is it not acceptable and she coldly said, it just isn't. She gave me no explanation and was very rude and heartless. I wasted this month's cycle window, a vacation day, and an hour and a half drive for absolutely nothing. Just to have a cold, heartless, response that yeah...we can't help you, sorry. I have written many referrals for patients for fertility testing in the past and they are generic and not for a particular clinic or practice, but I will now make sure to tell every patient I refer that if they're thinking about going to The Reproductive Medicine Group, do themselves a big favor and choose another practice.
