The tables can sometimes seem to be a bit close together, and the restaurant seems to attract parties/groups of people so can be a bit noisy. Food is freshly prepared and is a mix of tradional (steaks, salmon, lamb) with a modern twist. Beware the fresh baked bread - this comes at the start of your meal and is delicious and very filling, so don't eat it all at once! Food is beautifully presented with interesting side dishes. I rarely have desserts, but always have dessert here becasue they are lush. The lounge bar is also a pleasant place for a pre/post dinner drink.

The Buccleuch is an eighteenth century coach house that has been brought up to a modern standard, and while you don't have to be a motorcyclist to enjoy this place, if you are a motorcyclist, this place will delight you. Secure parking, access to whatever you need, and Dave's knowledge of local roads is encyclopedic. He came up with a route for us that would get us north without slogging through Glasgow traffic, then loaded it in my friend's satnav. Great local roads too!

Everything in my room was so crisp, clean, and perfect, I could easily believe I was the first person to stay there. Excellent shower, large and very comfortable bed with high-quality linens. Two doors and a hallway separate the hotel from the pub, ensuring that none of the restaurant noise reaches the rooms. There is a post office right across the street and a news shop just down the block, and Thirlestane Castle is a short walk. We had dinner (haggis bon bons and steak pie) and breakfast (full Scottish) at the restaurant and everything was perfect. Highly, highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed it but, on the whole, think I still prefer an old school Marie Rose sauce, lettuce & lemon slice. I had the Eyemouth haddock & chips for my main. This was a really generous portion with no frills - just as I wanted it. All in all the perfect antidote to Christmas Fayre. Worth checking out if in the area. The restaurant serves modern Scottish bistro-type food which includes all the usual suspects (haggis anyone?) and uses only Scottish ingredients. They serve morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner -pretty much anything you'd like really. The scrubbed pine-based decor makes the restaurant appear very light and airy and everything is kept very clean and tidy. Mr CuteBadger and I had a lovely dinner there while staying in the area. It was really busy, but despite this service was prompt and the staff friendly and happy to help. Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious.

We found this little gem inside the Archiestone Hotel. I didn't have much expectations but I was impressed with the fine service and food. The quality of service is truly 5 stars and the food was just as good. There are only 8 tables there and I recommend you call for reservations. The lamb was great and so was the breaded coley. This place is a must try for visitors seeing the distilleries in Speyside.

Only one: at noon we booked dinner for the evening, but when we presented ourselves we found we'd been shunted into the breakfast room--a let-down from the lovely ambience of the dining room. Would've been nice to inform us when we booked that that would be the case. Otherwise, the room, the cuisine, the personnel, the location (easy walk to town amenities and walking paths) were tip-top. Their steaks are to die for, and seafood pretty fab too and the portions are very generous. The setting is so peaceful but it's still only 1 hour from Edinburgh. They have recently renovated bedrooms too although I've not yet stayed! Next time!
