At peak times it will usually have a few buses starting at Five Ways Island on Calthorpe Road. I like this bus, having travelled all the way along it on one journey or another. I usually use it between Moseley and Five Ways. It can get very caught up in traffic at peak times and I've been left waiting quite a while on many occasions. However, the buses on the route are generally all new ones. They are clean and spacious and it's easy to get on and off with a pushchair. It stops outside the MAC and generally has one of the nicer routes of South Birmingham buses in my experiences.

Its positioned on the main dual carriageway and is pretty easy to find once you've navigated all the roundabouts! There is a pub further down the road and an estate with superstores on which we found useful on one day as the snowfall was so heavy the traffic wasnt going anywhere so we called there and got some wellies! and then holed up at the pub to thaw out while the traffic died down. The hotel itself is your usual Travelodge, rooms a reasonable size, it was clean and had all the usual amenities, tea and coffee making, tv etc. We would use this one again for short visits to the area.

The place is filled will green, huge hollow rhododendrons, wooden steps, follies, tunnels, rocks coloured with copper and branches arching, dripping with berries. The root covered paths are lined with raspberry and bramble bushes, and beautiful views off cliffs and through expanses of corn off to the horizon, leading to caves, grottos and arches. The twisting old trees are fit for tolkien, and I think I'm right in bits of Narnia being filmed here. It's a lot of unavoidable steps, so unsuitable for wheelchairs and prams unfortunately. Best on a dry day to avoid slippery rocks and carved steps, wear sensible shoes, take a bottle of a water and a torch (some tunnels are purposely not lit) and I'd also advise a picnic, partly because picnics are the best thing ever, but also because the tea room is pants!
