Try googling "grow light." ) The phone book or local agriculture directory is less subversive, but equally mystifying for a native urbanite who once had to ask what "road apple" was. I picked the first place that looked like it wasn't a big box offshoot and where a real person answered the phone. I'm so glad the Universe directed me to Barn Side Farm. Nancy and Walt hooked me up with crumbly beautiful compost for my garden. It smells like life itself and my plants just love it. I : LOVE their business model, LOVE their ethical and sustainable practices, LOVE their commitment to education. Small snag with delivery this year (no problems last year); but they made it right and I got all of my seedlings tucked in tight by the end of the weekend. Even if you're not Philly local, check out their website, they've got great information about compost and soil improvement.

This is to review Garden Shoppe's seasonal produce. (We have yet to experience the plant nursery…read moreitems.) We'd seen this place many times when stopping at Braxton's for pet food. Finally tried them for veggies the other day and we were really pleased. We normally get non-organic produce from Gentile's in Newtown Sq if/when it's decent quality (prices can't be beat, but quality is sometimes lacking), or we trek to Wolff's in Media for better quality (which you pay for there). What made the Garden Shoppe helpful to us is its convenience to the nearby Acme and Rite Aid we use, and the quality we got for the price. Quality can sometimes be on par with Wolff's, but with lower prices than Wolff's. They did not have the selection of the Wolff's or other larger produce stores, so expect what one might find at a roadside produce stand, not a full market. But for basics, they filled our need very well. One complaint was the corn. Places like Wolff's will normally let you husk it there, and if you get a half-brown dud, you don't end up paying for it. Wolff's has a lot of pride and does not want to sell you something like that. At the Garden Shoppe there is no means of husking, and we have ended up with 40% of our ears in really bad shape (half the kernels missing, worms, rot, etc.), so if they could set up a husking station it would be a great relief. For the other items, though, we're glad we finally tried them, and are sorry we didn't do it years sooner.

He said he's very busy but to text him my address and one of his sons would come out and take a look to see why my tree died and to replace. That was two weeks ago and still no response. I'm taking my services elsewhere and will never use them again due to the poor customer service.
