This space is used to teach coding to kids as well as special events. In my case, I was there to listen to a series on technology in Indianapolis from several guest speakers. The space lends itself to small gatherings of people.. probably 50-70 at the most, with enough space for food/drinks and tables along the back. A couple of breakout rooms exist that can be closed, but it's very much an open concept kind of place.

Our experience with the school he picked left us very leery about computer certification. Walking into Iron Yard, I could feel the true interactive nature of the school. The offices are open and airy and had a really laid back but creative feel. My daughter took coding classes here. At 13 she doesn't have strong background in coding but after a 4 weeks class, I could see the growth in her and her knowledge of all the work that goes into building a webpage. I am very appreciative for the programs offered by the Iron Yard and would definitely recommend those looking to enhance their knowledge in building websites or creating apps that this is the place to be.

In this case, the 2023 Indy Shorts International Film Festival had a "camp" theme this year. As a result, the fine folks from Silly Safaris showed up at least a couple times showing off their fabulous animal actors including such beautiful wonders as Owlbert the Spectacled Owl, Chip the Bunny Rabbit, Ruffles the Screaming Hairy Armadillo, Radar the Fennec Fox, and a handful of others including a seriously ginormous snake. Their human counterparts handled the animals well and were entertaining, informative, and great despite the unusual settings - one was the kick-off event and the other was the awards night event. People loved the animals and everyone wanted photos. My favorites were the armadillo and the owl. Silly Safaris offers a variety of programs for a variety of settings including schools, libraries, birthday parties, and faith-based programs. They also offer sponsorship opportunities and even "safari shoutouts" where you can get an "animalgram" from one of their animals. This was so perfect for the camp theme, though it probably stretched the truth of what kinds of animals you might experience at an Indiana campout. Who cares? It was so much fun. While this is an obvious program for kids, I couldn't help but notice how much all the adults enjoyed this unique experience. Indy Shorts was just voted one of the 25 coolest film festivals in the world - this is exactly why right here. These kinds of events are a blast and a great way to balance out the demands of a busy film festival. If you get the chance, I'd definitely consider a Silly Safaris program.

She expects the children to excel, and she helps give them the confidence to rise to the occasion. All of the teachers are quick to identify student's strengths and areas for growth and have consistently communicated his learning plan to us via daily notes and parent teacher conferences. My son was recognizing his letters when he first started Kindergarten, and is now able to read level one chapter books at the end of the year. His verbal and written communication have improved exponentially as well, and despite his naturally shy demeanor, he is now confidently reciting poetry in front of classmates and parents. The curriculum is top notch as well and we love the diversity of subjects that the school teaches. The school staff is also fabulous. Miss Erica in the front office is always there to help with anything the parents or children need during the day. I always felt confident sending my child to school each day. I can't recommend IMS enough!

Often times these children are the lost children of the system. They fall through the cracks because their less then ideal home situation means constantly moving from one shelter home couch to another and thus constant interruption in their education. Sometimes parents are in a constant state of shock worried with other concerns like safety, food, utilities, that their kids education is the last concern on their mind. The volunteer tutors of School on Wheels become sometimes that one beacon of light for these kids. As a tutor we assist children in their homework and play games, we provide positive reinforcement. We let them talk and and we let them be kids in their often rocky world. Being a tutor requires little commitment but just an hour a day a week. There is so much flexibility to being a tutor. As a tutor for almost 3.5 years I learned so much about myself and the children gave back to me as much as I tried to give back to them.
