The day that first went there I had no problems with the notarizations of the 3 documents, though I thought it was strange I had to place my address and my phone number where I was to sign. I had to have other documents notarized previously at the downtown Barrington store and did not have to do that. Because this a foreign document it needed to be apostilled at the Secretary of State office, a service that is done at the DMV in Lake Zurich. Just an FYI, the Hague Apostille Convention treaty, established on October 5, 1961, simplifies the process of legalizing documents for use in foreign countries by allowing a single apostille certificate to be accepted instead of multiple legalizations. The SOS office would not accept these documents stating that the notarization was done incorrectly, and that I had to go back to the notary and have him add in the "notarial paragraph". This wording states that the notary has witnessed the signing of the document, acknowledged signers, and their identity in a separate sworn statement and placed it in that document with their seal. When I requested for him to do so, he refused and then proceeded to tell me that I should write it in or type it up and he would then sign it. He proceeded to tell me that he did not do anything incorrectly and even when telling him that this was what was requestsed by the SOS office and showing him a document from the SOS as to how it should be requested, he again refused. He was very rude, wanted me to do something possibly illegal, and certainly did not want to help the situation. I am extremely disappointed in this location and UPS, as they absolutely have NO standards for notatizations. It seems clear that procedures for notarization in Illinois is NOT being adhered to, most likely because there has not been any training on this and the situation made worse by arrogance and ignorance on the part of the Notary. DO NOT USE this location for anything related to Notary services, as you will ultimately have to go elsewhere for things to be done correctly! Unfortunately, this subpar outfit charged me $20 for their services, which was of NO USE!
