Great trail, feels like home, I use it daily for walking my dog. I usually go about six miles every morning. This trail is lovely and heavily shaded, with a few benches for resting. The recumbent bikers and cyclists are mostly regulars and very nice. Do watch out though, as many of the inexperienced cyclists don't announce their presence when passing. This can be very startling, so keep your headphone volume low. Overall, one of my favorite places. Very quiet and beautiful and very well-maintained. I've seen everything from cardinals to gopher tortoises, egrets and ibis as well as loads of deer and turkeys. The ranger in the Ft. Cooper area is a lovely guy. A wonderful, magical place.

Wallis Brooks Park provides plentiful parking, in the shade, to serve as entry to the trail. It is good for biking, walking, skating, bird watching, etc. More of a climb when heading north, but very gradual inclines. Our Strava app indicated 560+ attitude gain. Fair amount of benches and covered tables with seats. Thankfully, as this is Florida, the rainshine state. We had to seek shelter from the storms twice. If riding be sure to stop at intersections as cars are given right of way. There are some rest areas and merchants available within a 5 minute pedal of the trail and restrooms at north end trailhead. When heading south the climb is still very gradual and slightly less through Floral City. Even flatter south of Floral City. Trail is 46 miles end to end. If starting in Inverness, you are at a central point and should expect a 82 mile round trip pedal if covering both ends. Through Floral City there is easy access to a number of eateries. The trail is not crowded. Has lots of wildlife to see. It is also mostly shaded from North End through Floral City. South is noticeably less shade, shelters and rest rooms. Great ride through old real Florida. There are bike shops on trail at Inverness and Floral City. There are also offshoot trails such as central park, fort cooper and good neighbor trails. Explore and enjoy.

This rails to trails shared-use trail is pretty nice: Wide, asphalt paved (starting to age and getting lumpy with lots of poorly-done patch jobs); lots of shade; not at all crowded; mostly flat; long stretches between stop signs at crossroads; lots of birds and gopher tortoises; many wildflowers in the Spring; parking, water and restrooms every 10 miles or so; benches are spaced every couple of miles. Downsides: No hills (I love hill climbing and maybe you do, too); cars don't often yield for bikes crossing the road, so be really careful. In years of riding this trail, I've seen just a couple of horses, but many walkers and a few electric wheelchairs using the trail. Usually, I see cyclists alone or in pairs. The Rails to Trails Conservancy sells (cheap) a detailed map of this trail that is very helpful (available download for smartphones at TrailLink.com). They also sell tons of maps for other R2T bike trails that are super useful and will take the pain out of your cycling life.

Very safe. I take my dogs and kids on this frequently. We typically take out bikes and it's such a beautiful ride!

LOVE this trail! It is mostly for folks on bicycles. But we've walked many miles of this trail and found it to be clean and safe,

Grabbed a bite at adjacent Shamrock lounge at Floral City, and Inverness has many eating choices not far from the path.

All throughout the pines are jogging/biking trails of all capabilities. What a great feelin to be among all these stately pines! The shade is good with a hint of sun peeking through. A few of the recreational activities are of a standard size pool which is shared by the local high school swim team. Speaking of water there's a splash pad for the kiddies. The children can also play on a large playground. Some of the courts that are provided are basketball, disc golf, racquetball, and pickleball. There's also a regulation baseball field for minor and children's leagues. A number of the pavilions require a reservation and possibly a fee. The air conditioned recreation building has a full kitchen and is sometimes used for programs and classes. Though I haven't seen it yet, somewhere is a youth camping area. The butterfly garden gives some added glamour to the park. Of note, this is a pet friendly park and you can find pick up bags all over the park. All of those amenities are completely free! Park hours are 7am - 9pm.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine smiles, warmth, and encouragement. I was personally a bit nervous since I hadn't paddle boarded much before, but every step of the way we felt supported and truly cared for. Hearing about the family's passion for protecting the ecosystem and the manatees, along with all the helpful tips they shared to optimize our experience, was absolutely incredible. When we got to the dock, we were guided so kindly - Mike even held our shoes in his truck for us! When he noticed me struggling a bit, he took the time to give me multiple tips on how to better move in the water and maneuver the board, which made such a difference. We saw so many manatees, including mama and baby pairs, which was unforgettable. When we returned to the dock and shared how excited we were, Mike went above and beyond once again by recommending another nearby location we could walk to where we ended up seeing even more manatees up close and personal. I would 10/10 recommend Manatee Paddle to anyone looking for an incredible manatee experience. I am so grateful to Mike and his family for making our day so special. THANK YOU!!

Paddle boarding with this crew in Crystal River was…read morehands down one of the best experiences I've had in Florida, and it's because of the people behind the business--Aidan, Mike, and Mandy. From the moment we showed up, they made us feel like family. Aidan was the first one to greet us, and right away you could tell how passionate he is about the river, the wildlife, and making sure every single guest feels confident before heading out on the boards. He has this calm, encouraging way about him that instantly puts you at ease--even if you've never stepped foot on a paddleboard before. He gave us tips, shared fun facts about the area, and somehow managed to keep the whole group laughing the entire time. Mike is the backbone of the operation--the guy making sure all the boards, paddles, and gear are in perfect condition, the one double-checking that everything runs smoothly so you don't have to worry about a thing. It's obvious how much pride he takes in the business, because everything is organized, well-maintained, and set up to give you the best possible experience. He's also just genuinely fun to chat with before and after you head out--one of those people who makes you feel like an old friend after five minutes. And then there's Mandy, who is truly the heart of the operation. She's warm, welcoming, and on top of everything. From making the booking process super smooth to making sure we had everything we needed for the day, she's the reason the whole experience felt so seamless. She checked in with us multiple times, gave us great local recommendations for after our paddle, and just made the whole day feel special. What really stood out to me was how much this team cares--not just about giving people a fun day on the water, but about the environment, the river, and the wildlife that call it home. They take time to educate guests about respecting the ecosystem, and you leave not only having had an amazing adventure, but also feeling like you've learned something important. I've been on plenty of tours and excursions, but very few have left me with such a lasting impression. These guys aren't just running a business--they're building memories for people, and they clearly love doing it. If you're anywhere near Crystal River, don't waste your time looking at other paddle board companies. This is the one. Between Aidan's energy, Mike's behind-the-scenes dedication, and Mandy's incredible hospitality, you won't find a better team anywhere. Do yourself a favor and book with them--you'll thank me later.
