Had we known earlier that Renaissance's level of consistent, higher quality family care existed, we would have selected them first. Their clean, safe, welcoming, and modern floor plan is designed to feel and look like home, serving no more than six residents. Consequently, our mom (then one of three residents) received individualized attention and compassionate care from the staff. She adjusted well, regained some of her mobility, energy and significant weight, and she resumed a regular diet and feeding herself. Although she passed away in January 2023, we are forever grateful to owners Rosa (an R.N.) and husband Ken Ogar and their team for making our queenly mom's last months more comfortable and loved. Indeed, angels still exist!

And so, we would like to thank Rose & Ken Ogar and their teams for caring for one of the most precious gifts God has given us - our mom Alice. Difficult at times and more feisty than her age can bear, our mother's life and health improved dramatically under their care. When she first was admitted, she was barely eating and then voila! - she began eating and talking incessantly despite her dementia. The food was wholesome and nourishing thanks to the CNA's they employ and their amazing cooking skills. Despite wearing briefs, our mom was always dry and if she wanted anything, they were at her side! Thank you for getting her up in the morning and for her bathing, her dressing, her toileting and her grooming. We would also like to take time to point out the extraordinary care our mom was given by these particular wonderful CNA's - Alicia, Kendra, Nisha and Vickie. A big thank you to all of the CNA's that took the time to do our mom's hair. It was always combed and we never had to ask. Thanks guys, for all you did to make our mother's stay an excellent one at Renaissance Care Home. From time to time, we will keep in touch to let you know how mom is fairing. Again, thank you for your patience, your tolerance and for giving this feisty 90 yr. old, sometimes cussing lady - your gracious care. Our family is truly indebted!

The staff are amazing people who seem to really do what they love, i.e. prepare and serve excellent food, clean and maintain rooms, provide wellness programs and support, and look for ways to support independence and provide care for people they really care about. Hillside was a great resource for my 88-year-old mom after she underwent emergency abdominal…read moresurgery and an 11-day stay in the hospital. She was discharged to Hillside for rehab in late May 2025 and was there for a little more than 5 weeks (until early July). Thanks to the great care she got from nurses/CNAs/aides, PT/OT department, the dietician, the activities director and virtually everyone she met, mom made a remarkable recovery and is now home and regaining her independence. As she told just about everyone she met, "I'd recommend this place to anyone." I should note that this is focused on the rehab unit, as there are other parts of the operation we did not utilize. 10/2021: I AM IRRITATED & DISGUSTED right now!! I live in Wake Forest & my grandmother, who lives…read morein VA, had a medical emergency that occurred which caused her to be hospitalized for almost 1 month. When the hospital was ready to discharge her to rehab, I told them about this place & they reached out to see if they could take care of her medical needs. They never responded. So, I called myself & was told Darlene handles that. I spoke to her and she told me that they don't have beds for out of town people. ????? Huh???? She can no longer live in VA alone, so she would need to be where I am. STILL a "NO" from Ms. Darlene. So, I found a different rehab in VA for her. She's been there for 2 weeks & they are ready to discharge her home. Again, she can't go home & they said she will need 24/7 care. So, I reached out to Ms. Darlene yet again because the situation has changed. She needs nursing home care. This time, she didn't even bother to respond. I am confused as to how & why people from other states get penalized & not allowed to come there when they need care. If we can pay for it, what difference does it make?? She didn't care. She didn't give us a chance. And after reading the other reviews, we may be dodging a bullet. Thank you God!

For over $6,000 a month, you would expect a certain standard of service they claim to provide--but that could not be further from reality. My mom entered with dementia that was still mild; she was independent and did not need memory care. We paid for a room, cleaning service, and medication dispensing. Yet her room was consistently dark, dingy, and NEVER cleaned. The entire facility often smelled of urine. After repeated complaints about the filth, nothing changed--I eventually bought my own supplies and cleaned her room and bathroom myself. Even worse, as my mom's dementia progressed, the staff NEVER communicated with us about her episodes or what was happening. How can a facility responsible for people's loved ones fail to notify families about their care and wellbeing? For the cost charged and the level of neglect received, this facility is unacceptable. DO NOT send your loved ones here.

Small and homey compared to other places I've visited which is the reason I selected this for my…read moremom. She gets to know the staff and familiarity is beneficial for her. It's comparable in costs and services to other local places. Good responses to needs and family members' requests. The billing and paperwork processes are not modern nor online but manageable. Private rooms for residents are like large hotel rooms. Planned events are very good. Transportation is included but scheduling is required. Outings are nice and seem well planned.
