Rod's Electrical was contracted through my home warranty company to diagnose an electrical issue at…read moreresidence. When Rod arrived he checked the exterior electrical panel. After doing so, he advised myself and my mother that the issue was a bad breaker. Rod then began to say that the entire panel needed to be replaced. Please keep in mind that Rod DID NOT even look at the interior electrical panel before arriving at his conclusion. At which time I explained to him that the home warranty company wouldn't replace the entire panel without exhausting all other options first. I went on to explain to him that he should fix the breaker, and if the problem persisted afterwards, I would have to submit another service request. I also asked if he checked all the breakers inside the exterior panel. At which time he advised that he had not. Rod then sent a video via text message showing that the breaker at the top of the panel was arcing. Rod then left my residence and advised that he would submit his report to the home warranty company for their review. Later that day I received an email from my home warranty company, advising that my claim was denied due to a manufacturer's defect in the panel. I contacted my home warranty company to find out how they arrived at this decision because Rod DID NOT provide me with those findings. I asked for the serial number associated with the panel so that I could find information about the recall or manufacturer's defect. However, my home warranty couldn't provide that information because Rod had not provided them with the serial number. When I asked how it was determined that the panel at my home was defective or recalled without the serial number, my home warranty company advised that their decision was based entirely on the information provided by Rod. I then asked for a copy of the report that Rod submitted for my review. When I received the report, it stated that the breakers and bus bars were burning up due to a manufacturer's defect in the panel. Again, Rod DID NOT inform me of these findings. He only identified one (1) breaker as being bad because he couldn't determine what the other breaker serviced. He further stated that he could replace the bad breaker, but the problem may eventually resurface. I also asked that another contractor be sent to my home for a second opinion on the matter. However, that request was also denied. During my conversation with Rod, before he submitted his INACCURATE report to my home warranty company, he began making statements, such as, "Oh you're going to have to come out of pocket for this." I advised Rod that my warranty covered panels, breakers, wiring, etc. I contacted Rod after learning that my claim was denied due to his INACCURATE report. Rod denied advising my home warranty company that my electrical issues were due to a manufacturer's defect with the panel. Rod stated that the customer service representative with my home warranty company made that determination by looking up the make of my panel. When I asked Rod, how much it would be to replace the panel he quoted me a price beginning around $2,500. Finally, I asked Rod for the serial number that he gave my home warranty company so that I could get to the bottom of this issue. However, Rod could not provide me with this information. Instead, he asked if I was referring to the service order number. Later that evening I researched the panel in question only to learn that there was never an official recall on the panel. Most product recalls are prompted by safety issues or quality defects. Whether voluntary or regulatory, there was never a recall issued on the panel at my home. Therefore, how could Rod make this determination? It is my belief that Rod submitted the report in the manner in which he did in order to bypass the home warranty company to get a bigger payout from the homeowner (me). I then contacted another electrician who came out, checked both my interior and exterior panels. After which he determined that the issues was with the 100-amp 2-pole breaker. I asked if there was an issue with the panel itself. The electrician stated that there was not an issue with the panel, only the breaker that he identified. The electrician then advised that the breaker, which Rod could not determine what it supplied power to, was feeding power to the breaker box on my tennis court. The breaker was replaced and as of the date of this review, I have not had any issues with my electricity or the panel in question. Rod's INACCURATE report, not only cost me financially but my home warranty company dropped the coverage for my panel, breakers, etc. due to his egregious determination. I would not recommend Rod's Electrical to anyone!!!!
