This market is small but mighty. It's very clean and very well organized. It's also insanely expensive to the point of being a little comical. The fresh offerings are delicious, the ice cream is worth every excruciating dollar, and it's perfect if you're in a pinch for some necessary items as the nearest supermarket is like a 20 minute drive. #shoplocal #shopindie When the Town of Winthrop lost its only supermarket, part of a chainlet--owned by a wealthy man who also had a very successful reception hall in Eastie--another local businessperson and his family stepped up, along with the manager of the former store and the marketplace was born. It's small, don't let me kid you, does not take much to feel like you are crowded. The shelf space is only so much. They do the best they can to keep it well stocked and clean and staffed but during Covid-bumps the first few years they have their ups/downs. Staff usually are very nice, especially to our elderly residents including my mom, are they human--yes and make mistakes/we all do. Considering the size of the store, the quality and the variety are pretty reasonable. They have the deli counter, and also some take out meals as well. read more

Yelp told us that this was the closest grocery store to our Airbnb and I am SO thrilled that it was. I thought it was a cute grocery store with a surprising selection considering the size. Great food selections and fresh fruits and vegetables for last minute runs. Had a great exchange with the nice lady behind the deli counter. Courteous, polite and helpful. Environment clean and tidy. Only reason I am giving this place a one star is because my 10 year old son and I had a terrible exchange with another worker over the use of their rest room and both him and I were treated badly. The worker was very rude and had an attitude when I asked if my son could use the ladies room since it was an emergency and the men's bathroom was occupied. She rudely and loudly replied "No! He is a man and cannot use the ladies restroom!"making a huge scene in front of others which was embarrassing. I asked why and she said it's No and that's that completely disregarding the urgency of the matter. I told her okay but she didn't have to react so rudely towards us and she continued to give both my son and I a bad look in addition to an ugly attitude. Although I typically encourage my son to use the men's rooms, as a parent we all know there are some things we cannot control. This lady could have been kinder about the situation but instead left my son upset to the point where he thought he did something wrong. No child should ever have to feel this way. Sadly, I hate to say it but my son and I believe we endured a form of racism because of how badly she treated us compared to the other Caucasian customers. We will not be returning back to this market simply due to the fact of the way we were treated. On a side note, I'd like to say thank you to the nice lady at the deli who was kind and treated us with respect and dignity. In a world full of hatred, you gave us a sense of hope and we truly admired your professionalism. As for the other worker, we truly hope you don't treat others in this manner because it is bad for business and bad for humankind. If I could give 0 starts for the customer service here, I would. So, Winthrop Marketplace has this program where they can Ship and Receive your UPS Packages. So I've used this service before, many times, where after buying a product, the company would give me an option of receiving the package at a UPS drop off location, which this is..my mistake was thinking that because the package I had bought from Amazon Prime ships through UPS, that I could use the Market's address to ship there, but I found out that you can't do that because it's like making it seem that the address is your home. Fine...that's fine...I did not know. What PISSED me off was the fact that this woman (With the Loud voice behind the Customer Service desk) felt the need to pretty much BERATE me in front of other customers in the store, telling me LITERALLY like 5 times, "You can't have your stuff shipped here like that". I work in customer service and would NEVER treat a customer that way. She could have lowered her voice & explain it to me or pulled me aside, but NO.. Not only that...This woman asked to see my ID (for verification of course) and had the NERVE to tell me, "That's not your picture".. Excuse me?? I said, "what do you mean, that's not my picture???" Obviously tried saving her ass by saying "oh...you look younger."...Please... So she ends up giving me my packages and telling me I can't have my packages sent to the store like that (FOR THE 5TH TIME!!!) All that fuming I was trying to keep under wraps, I said "I heard you for the 5th time!" To say it was hard to keep my composure was an understatement. I've never been treated like that by someone in my life, EVER! I've been living in Winthrop for over 4 years now and frequent this Market because it's so close to the house, so I'm not going to stop coming here, but I will say, this encounter left a REALLY BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH. For those without a car living in Winthrop, the Winthrop Marketplace is convenient and has a surprising variety of items for a small store. I do prefer organic items when I can get them at a reasonable price and there is very little here that is organic. Although prices are somewhat higher than supermarkets on many items, their store brand Best Yet is much cheaper and quite good. The staff is very friendly and helpful so shopping here is stress free and always pleasant. Upon moving to Winthrop a year ago, I had wished that Winthrop had a Trader Joes however since I live on a main street, I realize now that a popular chain store would bring more traffic right past my house! The Winthrop Marketplace is right on the local 712 bus route. read more

Great marketplace! I often grab a hot meal for lunch from here. The store has a very friendly and hometown shopping experience. At the register they were taking donations to help build a local dog park. I have always found fresh and quality and delicious food. There's parking - I live in Boston. I like the marketplace. It is very convenient when you need to pick up a few things. Due to the small size of the store, you may or may not find everything you might need and it will be expensive, but sometimes its worth the convenience. The deli is pretty good and you can get a lot of prepared foods as well, and when they have sales, the prices are pretty good! The butchery done here is fresh and you will never see greyish meat. The Winthrop Marketplace is a wonderful little market. Normally (i.e. pre Pandemic) the help is expert, gives good suggestions, can assist shoppers to find and purchase fresh meat, vegetables, fruit, and foodstuffs. I love this market. HOWEVER... none of the workers in the market are wearing masks, gloves, or other protective coverings during business hours. This is a huge public health risk to workers and customers. Please take heed... if workers are not wearing gloves and masks, they are not concerned with your health and welfare. Do not patronize this or any other business which is putting their customers ' lives in danger. COVID-19 is serious, deadly and the ONLY way we have of preventing it's spread is social distancing combined with vigilant use of personal protective wear... masks and gloves. read more

I go here at least once per week for Deli / Veggies / Milk. They are open early and close late. Family owned, clean, Girls at the register do a great job checking you out fast. Convenient and accessible come to mind when describing this establishment. Their deli is worthy of praise too as they offer a solid selection of cold cuts and bread. Their prices are about $1 more per item than your regular grocery store (that's why I'm not giving it 5 stars) but it's also a small business and you're paying extra for convenience. We LOVE the Marketplace. They have a great flower selection (and they last for almost 2 weeks!), fresh baked bread (if you call ahead, they will set a loaf aside for you), great cold cuts. The staff was as pleasant as to be expected, their prices weren't the cheapest (as far as food markets go) but they also weren't anywhere near "break the bank" expensive either.
