The Salesman told me that any money not used towards the funeral I could just get in a check.My father passed away and now he's telling me that I have to spend all of it with the funeral home I cannot get any of it back I feel scammed. And this is the same salesman that had told me just a month ago that they do it all the time and I would get $1,250 unless I wanted to use any of it for services or other keepsakes. However, on our last visit there, I entered their small enclosed building (AC, all recycled air) with my spouse and older relative and not one person in there had a mask on. It is the middle of a pandemic and Florida is setting record deaths every day, yet they had no interest in doing even the simplest thing to protect us, and all of their customers, and themselves. We didn't even know how to react, and conducted our business asap and got out. I can't even express my disgust at their complete indifference to our lives and well-being. Never again.

They told us the county had a deal with Strunk in Vero Bch. In an hour, they took her away. My adult children were not home. The next day, before she was cremated, they wanted to say good bye. They told us it would be $1300. We all knew even in the morgue she would have been "grey", and we told them it didn't matter. My kids just wanted one last good bye. They were firm. No money, no good bye. The reason they said was they would apply make up to her despite the fact we knew what we were going to see. I don't see how 5 minutes to put make up on cost $1300. My cousin works for a mortuary in another state and she thought the way we were treated was poor. I hope they changed things.

Behind an Advance Auto parts lies the Brookside Historical Cemetery. It is a perfect example of an…read moreold Florida cemetery. African-American and White sections contain many of the founding families from the small agriculture centered community of Fellsmere which was founded in 1911. The cemetery is much older however and is one of the oldest cemeteries in Indian River County. The land for the cemetery was donated to the city of Fellesmere by Fellsmere Farms in 1916 but there are unmarked graves in the oldest section of the cemetery from the 1880's. Brookside contains an array of markers, homemade brick, cement, and modern engraved granite. Prominent people are buried here as well as the the lesser known turpentine workers who worked in the pine camps that is now the St. Sebastian River State Buffer Preserve. The city of Fellsemere maintains the cemetery. Across from the historic cemetery is the entrance to another piece of history, the rails to trails project. The abandoned Trans-Florida Central Railway trails have been turned into hiking trails. The trail is a 2-mile hiking and biking pathway sitting in a former railroad corridor that once connected Sebastian and Fellsmere. The centerpiece of the trail is the iconic bridge over Interstate-95 where the name of the trail is displayed prominently in huge letters across the span of the bridge. It was designed to look like an old trail bridge. Though the railroad trail is about 15 miles long, only 2 miles of trail have been completed.
