Personal Review of JMD Financial Services - Rick Posner July…read more10, 2016 One of the best talents I had in my business career was I had the knack to find the right employees, partners and advisors. Maybe this was something I was born with or maybe my childhood was cultivated so that I would be able to acquire not only appropriate business associates but personal friends as well. This was the process, or possible divine intervention, I put my faith in when I was in need of a go-to person for questions I had about keeping my finances and budget on a smooth pathway. I would guess that a majority of us, especially in this age of rising expenses, have suffered from the relentless background voice, worrying about our financial situation in comparison to our real-life dreams. But we don't need to hire a full-time employee, just a consultant for an hour or maybe someone to educate and run a project for a few months. My first contact with JMD Financial was with one of their principal partners. I told him my problem: That I am now out of business due to an unexpected disability which leaves my body weak and my mind sometimes a muddled labyrinth, rendering me less sharp and effective in the complex business goings, decisions and strategies that business owners need in today's competitive world. As I was facing immediate change in future income I knew that I would have to scale back my then-current lifestyle. Sure, I could cut this and that out of my life, but where did I really stand, how much money really now came in from passive investments and what did I generate in expenses? To my surprise our first meeting was at my home office. When is the last time you had an accountant, lawyer, doctor or other professional come to your house for a meeting? My contact at JMD was Madhur. He was extremely punctual and polite. We both became very comfortable with each other and we dove into work, having explained what my situations was. What I liked about Madhur was if I felt I was having trouble understanding certain processes, he immediately caught on and would bring the bookkeeping vocabulary or systems down a notch, thereby helping me understand as we went along. When we finished, I really didn't have any questions except when he could come back so I could learn some more. Without a doubt, I would refer anyone looking for a bit of help in their accounting to give JMD a call. It's refreshing to know that there are still real and caring people in the world of business today. JMD listened to our needs then did something extraordinary, they suggested a one hour coaching session to help orient me to Quickbooks so I could manage my own bookkeeping. This would have been easy money for them but they did the right thing, and instead of giving me a fish, they taught me HOW to fish. My one hour training session was with one of the partners, Madhur, who did a great job explaining the features of Quickbooks Online that I would need to use. Time-wise and money-wise that hour was well spent. He walked me thru Quickbooks, answered my questions, helped me add specialized categories and vendors, and showed me how to run reports. He then suggested that I use it for a month then check back in with any questions I had. For some of the more complex entries (like entering information from a closing statement) we hired them to do the work to make sure it was done correctly. I'm a financial advisor and am asked with some frequency for referrals. I take these referrals seriously as I feel they are a reflection on my professionalism. I would not hesitate to recommend JMD Financial Partners. My clients and friends would be in excellent hands.

She tried to pin a $13,000 bill on me, then upped it to $18,000, which included a $2400 charge for driving to and from San Jose and San Francisco. In the end, the judge found her bill excessive and unreasonable, and she kept trying to argue with the judge and was clearly pissed off. I also found it hilarious that she said "I'll be brief" and then went on a long rant in court. Besides the fact that she's clearly an incompetent attorney, she's also an immoral person who has no problem lying under oath to get what she wants. Just a horrible, depraved person. Truly a traumatizing experience, I fear I'll be having nightmares about her for awhile.

That alone crossed a line. It's also inaccurate for her to suggest that my former business partner "felt things were fine." Sure, Jan. My former business partner and I have maintained a very good friendship, and I am not going to speak for him, but her phone call to him probably caught him off guard, and in an attempt to avoid drama, he probably said that things were "fine". Nice attempt at trying to drive a wedge between he and I, Angela. Together we ultimately sent Angela an email stating, in all caps, "TERMINATION OF REPRESENTATION," and we formally asked her to transfer our case files to a new attorney. That's not what "fine" looks like. Angela also refunded us $4,000 - not out of generosity, but because she tried to bill us for multiple people reading the same emails. We caught it, and she backtracked. When she called me recently, she repeatedly asked to "discuss" the review. I declined. She continued to pressure me to remove the review anyway. She insisted she wasn't calling to pressure me to take it down, but let's be real - that's exactly what the call was about! To be clear: I'm writing this now because I have the benefit of hindsight. Time and distance have only confirmed what we suspected - that Angela prolonged the process, failed to advocate for us, and withheld important legal strategies that our next lawyer immediately recognized. If this were a misunderstanding, it could have been resolved with integrity. But instead, Angela is now misrepresenting the facts and using personal outreach to try to clean up her online image. That, in itself, speaks volumes.

Who among you rates lawyers among the more trustworthy of professions? C'mon...be honest! I was…read morereading a Gallup poll of trusworthiness that rated nurses the highest with a score of 81% (out of 100%) and the lowest point shared by car salespeople and lobbyists at 7%. Lawyers were somewhat better...marginally...at 17%. So what if I told you I had found a trustworthy lawyer. An oxymoron? Not in Karen's case. Earlier this year I got the dreaded letter from the IRS. They wanted to audit my small business. Being the internet geek I am I Googled various web sites and read that the government was using more resources to inspect small businesses because it provides for quicker audits and a much better chance of finding something they can collect money for. After all, the government feels they need more money! So I searched Yelp, LinkedIn and the internet in general. I spoke to a couple of tax attorneys and just wasn't...certain. Then I got some advice from the enemy. Well, in my case a retired enemy. An acquaintance who used to be an IRS auditor; in his case a very savvy and aggressive one. He quickly recommended Karen. He provided anecdote after anecdote about her skills and wins when dealing with the IRS. So I called her up and met for the initial consultation. The first thing you get is that she is so very human. Ok, I know we all are but she is not simply a persona in a suit trying to act all powerful or god like. She listens well and took the time to explain why my business was being audited. She explained the steps to the process, what she would do and the possible outcomes. There is no pushiness about her and you feel that she is uniquely genuine. I signed the documentation and the letter for Power of Attorney. It took a couple of months for her to deal with the various meetings and correspondence with the IRS auditor to go over my books, receipts and tax forms. She kept me up to date and was always willing to explain the process each step of the way. At no point did I feel she was simply trying to add to her billable hours or had anything than total respect for my business and my questions. So you have read this far and are waiting for the close. The final result was decree of "no change" from the IRS. In other words no extra money due to the government and case closed. My IRS acquaintance said that statement is the best you can get in an audit. So in short (too late!) I am terribly happy with Karen and the outcome of my case. In my mind she is perfect proverbial female David to deal the Goliath of the IRS.
