    1. The water stinks, horrible smell; I Would have been better off cleaning with baby wipes. I…read morerooms stink and I honestly think they stink because this hotel allows dogs; not everyone takes care of their dog they way they should; it had been raining and there were 3 dogs outside where their owner allowed them to roll around in the wet grass and then brought their dogs back in the room with them; (so disgusting) and I've found dog hair in the bathroom, and who knows, it could be in the chair and/or the so called comforter. Dogs are not for hotels. 2. the comforter on the bed is hardly a comforter; extremely thin like a flat sheet. My husband turned the air off when we first arrived, because it was cold, left for a few hours and it was still freezing in the room. Turned the heat on just to get the chill out, but when we turned it on, there was a bad smell, so we shut that off and I froze all night. 3. No Busch light at the bar because apparently there were construction workers that had stayed for a week and a half and drank it all, then the manager/owner should onto the damn store and get some to replace until they can place another order with the distributor. 4. No biscuits and gravy on the weekend; and why can't there be bacon, my husband likes the biscuits and gravy, I don't, but we both like to have bacon with our breakfast.

Upon check in we were informed the pool was closed. No explanation. I had requested a roll away bed but there was not one in our room. When I called front desk we were told to come down and get it. So much for service. We hoped to salvage some of the evening with a movie on tv. By the time we figured out the remote to the tv, the kids were asleep. Breakfast was fine. Scrambled eggs, cold link sausages, waffles and the other foods one would expect. We ate at 8:00 a.m., so I don't understand why the food was cold. One bright spot was the cheerful lady at the front desk in the morning. She explained that a part was replaced on the pool the day before and that it would not be open that morning. She apologized for the inconvenience and took a bit off our bill. So if you're looking for a pretty room with a comfy bed and nothing more, you'll love this place!

The Squiers Manor is an experience. No detail left undone. The proprietors are masters in their field...from the abundance of period pieces furnishing the Manor, to the home-cooked meals, down to the complimentary toiletries; including eye makeup remover wipes. It's in the fine details like these that the love of hospitality shows. Thank you Nathan and Rud.

Recently, I needed to be in Maquoketa, Iowa, for a wedding, and I was glad to learn of the highly reviewed Squiers Manor B&B. With short notice I was able to make a reservation in the Beulah Room, named after one of the Squiers daughter's who grew up and was married in the house, whose father the house was built for. It was a lovely room with a twin bed for our 9 year old daughter, and at a most reasonable price too. The furnishings in our room and all the others we were able to see, were stunning. This may have been the finest B&B I have ever stayed in anywhere in the US and Canada. But not only was the building grand, and furnishings fantastic (Kathy and her husband are antique dealers and have searched high and low for the most amazing furnishings for their B&B), the hospitality was grand too. Kathy accommodated our need to check in a bit before standard check in between 4-8pm, and kindly greeted us and gave us a full tour of the house. If we have any disappointment at all, it was that we could not stay longer, enjoy the evening dessert or partake of the morning breakfast. We have heard it is great. We can't wait to get back to Maquoketa again and visit Squiers Manor again, and we would tell you to make a reservation here if you are passing through or staying for a few days in the area, it is a MAGNIFICENT B&B.

This is a nice peaceful spot about 30 minutes away. Most of the sites here seem to be long-term for the summer And our Park homes or RVs with permanent attachments. The pool was really nice and it seems many people were enjoying it. The weekend nights were busy, but everyone appeared to leave on Sunday night, so it was very quiet the last couple nights. Most of the short term sites just have power and electric, but there is a dump site up by the office. The laundry room had two washers and two dryers and worked great during our stay washing was $2.75 and drying was a dollar for 45 minutes. They do have rolls of quarters at the front office. I do have to say that the staff here were super kind and helpful whenever we needed anything. We weren't here most of the time during the day since we were visiting our grandkids, but it looks like the kids here we're having great fun, fishing in the pond, catching fish and turtles! If you have the ability to bring your bikes, I would definitely do that as you are right next to the great bike trail. You can ride right into Savannah or other places. It's a very extensive trail.

We came with friends and we were on opposite ends of the campground, but Mickey knocked on our door and said we were free to move spots to be next to our friends.
