Disclaimer: I originally wrote this review for anne zimmer and realized I actually meant this store!
Everything in this store is beautiful. If I could buy it all, I would!
Winkel van Sinkel is located in a very cool area in Hamburg, and the whole store is accented by gorgeous greenery-- air plants in hanging geometric shapes, succulents big and small, and a little bit of everything else. You can definitely feel the fresh oxygen!
I went in looking for a wedding present for my sister and found just what I didn't even know I needed: a beautiful hand-crafted box by the talented German carpenter Gunter König. Since each "Etage" is sold separately, you could pick and choose from the many types of wood and stains and make your own unique box, which I thought was special, especially for a gift. The top that I chose was a really beautiful mahogany. Since it was handmade, it didn't fit quite perfectly. I thought this was absolutely fine but the saleswoman told me that it should be perfect, and then offered me a discount. She also said she had some pieces in the store, and I got the idea (though I could be wrong) that several artists and craftsmen share the space to showcase and sell their own items. If that's how it works, I think it's a really amazing concept, and definitely a successful one.
The items are pretty pricey, but as they're mostly handcrafted, it's definitely money well spent. I found lots of unique pieces that I would love to start collecting, and overall found the staff to be super friendly and helpful, and the store just a wonder to be inside. read more
