If you're looking for cheap stuff such as clothes, household things, fragrance, etc, this is the right place. It's not as cheaper than Euro Shop, but it has a large variety and the quality is arguably better than those from Euro Shop. read more

The vintage shoe collection is pretty sweet as well. There was a lot of stuff for guys, so bring your boyriend or guy friends because they'd love it! Not your average secondhand shop at all! Oh yeah, and the neighborhood its in is cute and has other little boutiques and cool shops!!
Really cool little second hand/vintage clothes shop. When I first walked through the door the owner…read morecame to greet me and explain the concept behind the shop, and so I'll explain it to you. They specialise in new and nearly new vintage clothing. For example a pair of 1970s trainers that have never been worn. Given this premise you might expect it to be pretty expensive, but it's not at all. Definitely worth checking out if you feel you might like something a bit retro.

Edit #2:…read more Okay, totally changing my review. The shopkeepers here are among the friendliest I've encountered in Hamburg, totally helpful, really nice and friendly. I was impressed when one of the employees basically ransacked the back room to find shoes my size and brought in another employee with a ladder. This is, of course, something you'd want to expect - but the willingness to help from the folks here and the welcoming smile is something which not many shops in Hamburg provide. Edit: Bumping up a star here after finding out that: 1) They carry Cheap Monday brand jeans as an alternative to overpriced Lee. 2) Their own-label shoe range is quite good with great quality for the price (which certainly cannot be said about retailers such as H&M). I picked up a gorgeous pair of well constructed patent-pleather loafers for 42eu. Great value! -- Original Review -- I don't understand this shop, nor those who shop here. Racks full of clothing and accessories better suited for second hand, prices which are disproportionately high and likely artificially inflated. Reminds me of Old Navy in the 90s, but for upper middle-class hipsters who would only wear any of this stuff out of irony before retiring it to, well, an actual second-hand shop. Only bit of joy here is the "Urban Renewal" section, which features new clothing from second hand materials in decent prices. I got a pair of leather gloves for 20eu which was probably someone's jacket.

One of them started telling me about this Hamburg ball cap that "it's the Burg", to which I replied that I knew that very well because I had been living in Hamburg for seven and a half years. He didn't even let me finish the sentence, but interrupted and told me that "no one in Ausland would recognize it, because there's no 'Hamburg' written on it". He just assumed that I'm just going to the Ausland with it (maybe because I looked like an Ausländer to him). Really, a good salesman convinces people to buy stuff even when they're inclined not to, rather than dissuade them from buying when they definitely want to.

There were also already a couple established players in the US which did exactly as Manufactum now does.sell an image. I too love the products in the catalog and the stories associated with each product are what get you hooked in. Unfortunately, a lot of this charm disappears when you get to the store in Chilehaus. I have to agree with another reviewer that it's really bad form to have broken items on display. I have too caught this on multiple occassions. Further, the place is not set up well and you can't wander around well. It's usually full of people and it's just annoying to go in there. In theory, the place is great. They do really need to work on making the experience though just as good in the store as they do in the catalog. Here they have a ways to go.
you can find almost anything in Karstadt My two favorites…read moreparts of that mall are the Parfumerie/Cosmetics department which is on the ground floor, and their household / kitchen floor (last floor). They have all kinds of designs for the kitchen. I am not much of a cook, but when i see the huge variety (some for VERY affordable prices / some with crazy creative designs) i feel like buying a new home with a 150 sqm kitchen to fit everything in!!! There's a small supermarket in Karstadt, they even have electronics department, bedroom department... They have a restaurant at the last floor. I would really advise you to eat there.. The food is good and it is freshly made in front of u they have everything really I think u need to know, if ur buying a gift from Karstadt, u cant get ur gift giftwrapped anywhere you have to go to the Geschenkservice, and then of course very 'germanly' PAY for your giftwrap, between 1EUR and 5EUR depending if ur adding a flower or a ribbon and on the size of the gift All in all a good mall, wide choice, it has brand names mostly, a lot of variety

Only giving it a 3 star because I felt their selections now are not as good & as wide unlike before. But I will definitely go back again in the future. They have 3 portions: a smaller one which is more dedicated to christmas decors & furnitures, a garden area (can be seen as you drive to the parking lot), & the main store (which also have some clothing selection, some grocery items, some of the christmas decors & mix of other things. They also have a wine section). It is better to come here by car.

They mostly carry European brands but have some American brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Juicy Couture, 7 Jeans. I did see a decent handful of sales tags on every floor, but some of the items were still just too pricey. However, the Longchamp bags on sale were a deal. They also offer a food court and I picked up a ton of German chocolates to bring home in their basement confectionary department. This department has a variety of candies from some you can find at their local grocery and department store such as Kinder to Niederegger to California brand Jelly Belly. Overall I would recommend a stop by Alterhaus just to check it out. At least you can buy some chocolates if nothing else catches your eye. Alterhaus and another department store, Karstadt seem to be the one of the very few stores in the area that close at 8 instead of 7.

It stocks everything from cosmetics (on the lower ground) to home decoration and even cafes, restaurants and food shop. I must add that I love their food shop, especially during Christmas times. Oh, I wanted to buy everything on display. Chocolates, cheese, wine, you name it. There are also areas where you could sit down and enjoy champagne *ahem* or just coffee. Customer service is friendly as far as I have encountered and they have gift-wrapping service on the home decoration floor (can't quite remember which floor was that - 4th?) and it's just located right in front of the lake, hence the name. This place was thoroughly thronged during Christmas shopping season, though - just so you know
