We did have to wait a few minutes to be seated, and weren't sure why we weren't given menus. But we saw signs indicating to order at the back counter. We went to the counter, took a menu and came back to our party to decide what we would order. You place your order, give your table number and they bring your food. The food took about 10-15 minutes to come out, but it was warm and delicious. My husband got the blacked mahi sandwich, I got the Iron Skillet Shrimp (pictured) and a Turbo Pelican Colada. Everything was delicious! The iron skillet came with 8 huge shrimp and I opted for garlic butter, which gave a dipping sauce. The fries were HUGE! Our kids loved the fries, burger and hot dogs that they ordered. The drink I ordered was strong and tasty, the toasted coconut was the icing on the cake. The drink came with a beautiful drink decoration, which my kids found cool to play with. We would visit again and plan on it.

It has become one of our favorite places to eat on South Padre Island. One of my favorite things is how genuinely pet-friendly they are. They even have a dog menu, so our dachshund, PeeWee, gets to enjoy lunch with us too. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that truly welcomes the whole family, including four-legged family members. After watching the KRGV Take 5 segment, I loved learning that the new owners were the cooks before taking over the restaurant. You can absolutely tell they know what they're doing. The quality of the food, the consistency, and the atmosphere have all been elevated under the new ownership while still keeping the laid-back island vibe. If you're looking for great food, excellent service, reasonable prices, and a place where everyone--including your dog--is welcome, Mahi Nic is the place to go. We'll definitely be back again and again with PeeWee and the rest of our family and friends. Highly recommend!

When I walked in, an employee started speaking to me very quickly in Spanish. I politely explained that I didn't understand because she was speaking too fast, but there was still confusion. Another customer behind me tried to help translate, but it only helped a little. There were three other customers waiting as well--two trying to place orders and one picking up an online order--and none of the orders were ready on time. I understand that places can get busy, but it's frustrating when the app gives a specific pickup time and it's not honored. At one point, another woman came in trying to place three large orders. She wasn't able to order what she wanted online, so she came in person, but was told they couldn't make her order as listed online. She had to choose substitutes, which made things even more confusing. The same employee was explaining everything quickly in Spanish, but the woman didn't speak Spanish and was left standing there confused. The same customer who tried to help me also tried to help her, but overall it was a very disorganized situation. I eventually waited for my order, and they gave me a hot pie for the delay, which I appreciated--but the overall experience was frustrating and poorly managed.

So I don't understand where I went wrong but My girls and I was treated like crap by THE OWNER TOM! So everything was decent until we received our food. I immediately noticed my girls was served more food than what the menu read. So I called the waitress over and advised her that I ordered the little ones (menu lingo) 2 peice chicken strips and fries. Instead we were brought a plate with 4 strips, fries, and 2 pieces of toast. She was persistent that I didn't say little ones and also said I should've made myself more clear by saying kids chicken strips, I was using their menu lingo, as I do anywhere else. I expect them to know their own menu but apparently not or she just didn't hear me. But that doesn't rule out that I said it. so she went and talked it over w/ whomever. Before my girls even touched their plate, I brought this to her attention in case they wanted to take the extra food off but she didn't so we continued with our meals. My daughters order from the kids menu for a reason because as I suspected it was was too much food and they only ate 2 strips and some fries. Mind you the plates they brought to my girls were 15.99 each compared to the little ones being 9.99 each. I looked at the ticket and noticed only $6 was taken off one meal. So I asked the waitress if I can please speak with a manager. This is where it got scary and uncomfortable for my girls and I so...TOM the OWNER came out and for 1 WAS DRUNK!! So he asked me what's going on and I explained everything and how I tried to get it settled before the food was touched and how I did request little ones chicken strips and it may have just been an error between the waitress and I. Even if it was impossible to make the change at that point he was the MOST RUDE,UNPROFESSIONAL PERSON and then to be DRUNK at his place of business. He basically was telling me there was no change going to be made since I didn't say the word *kids*... so I told him I'm not paying for that. So he says I'm calling the cops and I respond with go ahead I don't care. Again, mind you there was other people sitting around us and he was talking pretty loud for something so simple. There was no reason to be so passive aggressive. He asked me what I wanted to do with the food and I told him it's up to him it's his food to deal with. So after him saying he's going to call the cops I decided I was going to go to the front and away from everyone so they can enjoy their time. My girls and I waited in the front for the cops to come but they never did, instead TOM THE OWNER came out again and tells me...you can go now, get out of here and don't ever come back. YOU GOT IT BUDDY I WON'T EVER EVER EVER GO BACK TO THAT PLACE. I didn't have to end up paying for anything because he wanted to just leave at that point. but I would've rather had paid for our meals we requested but he didn't want it so we left. I wish I would have read the reviews before because I would have DEFINITELY!!!! Went some where else after seeing a review a woman posted 2 months ago, about there being rats running around. That is DISGUSTING My daughters left feeling sad, and embarrassed that they heard this man not only talk me in the way he did but then says he was going to call the cops . They were telling me they should have just ate all the food like it was their fault but I told them no we shouldn't be treated like this anywhere we go for any reason as long as we stay respectful, and calm. We went to have a good time after a long week of work and school and this what we had to deal with. For him to treat a woman and her daughters this way is uncalled for. THIS PALCE NEEDS TO BE EVALUATED AND THE OWNER NEEDS GOD, REHAB AND, HIS MOTHER OR FATHER TO SHOW HIM HOW TO TREAT PEOPLE in general BUT mostly WOMEN AND CHILDREN BETTER. I HAVE THE INTERACTION ON VIDEO BUT IM NOT ABLE TO POST IT ON HERE BUT I DID TAKE A SCREEN SHOT FROM THE VIDEO.

Before even stepping in, we specifically asked if there was a cover to enter when the person at the front said "oh yes there's covers upstairs." We said "no, do you have a cover charge?" And they responded back "no." My friend group and I then decided to hang out a bit and see what this spot was all about. We ordered multiple drinks and even ordered food, just enjoying ourselves upstairs. We were there prior to the DJ setting up so once he started playing music, we were dancing and having a really great time!! All of a sudden, 2 security guards (who had been upstairs for about 45 minutes plus before even speaking to us) finally decided to approach us where they had stated we needed to go downstairs to get a wrist band before 10pm... when it was already after 10, closer to 10:20pm. Confused but not wanting to cause a scene, we decided to go downstairs to get our "wristband". Once downstairs, we were approached by who I assume would be the manager- scrawny, gray-haired older man- who was already obviously annoyed of our group for some reason. He made us show our ID AND get a hand stamp before "re-entering". We asked why this was suddenly an issue and all he could come up with was "the stamp is to allow you entry coming in and out." Again, not wanting to start a scene or be a problem, we still got the wristband and hand stamp- which is very weird might I add. I have never been to a bar where I get in before the cover charge and then is hunted to get a wristband to prove I was in the bar before 10 or I'll be forced to pay for the cover. My friend group and I are young, but of course over 21, so I'm unsure what this whole issue was about. The older man who practically forced us to get these wristbands well after the fact of being there left such a bad taste in our mouths that we decided to leave. Beware of this place if coming in before the cover charge! Again, not sure what the reasoning was for all this. We tried asking out of curiosity but was told to "not give attitude or we'll be thrown out." Consider spending your money somewhere else that is more worthwhile.
