Plus, this account reimburses me for ATM fees that other banks charge me when I travel. Can you believe that! Every month the bank PAYS ME! Last month they paid me about $20 in interest for the month, plus about $22 to refund me that other banks charged me in ATM fees. Compare this to the big banks. Then there's the customer service which is OUTSTANDING!!! They know me. When I stop into the bank, they say, "Hey John how's it going? How are the kids?" They don't even bother to ask for my I.D., they know me. When I call the bank to deal with something, I get a live person who is helpful and local. They don't have a massive call center in some other part of the world. Really I can't say enough how much I love my bank.

I've been banking with Wells Fargo for over 30 years. I've lived through numerous policy changes but what happened today was a mother of deceit. My personal banker spotted my old line of credit/overdraft protection account that had some great features "grandfathered in" from years ago. She convinced me to open a new line of credit, with lower interest rate, had me close my old account over the phone and immediately said: "Oops, your new account can no longer be your overdraft protection anymore", she proceeds to call the headquarters right back to re-activate my old account, to which, of course, the answer was "hell NO!!", but I was immediately offered to open yet another account, such as savings, to become my new overdraft protection that I would basically have to pre-pay to have my own ass covered. If I had extra money, I would not need overdraft protection in the first place. I've been duped. Wells Fargo, you failed me. Why am I not surprised?

The appointment took two hours because the banker wanted to know my "financial goals," and we didn't even get around to closing my account. We set up an appointment the following week to close my account. I walked in and was told the banker wasn't there, as she had taken the day off. Luckily another banker was able to assist me with transferring my funds and closing my account. All taken care of, right? Wrong. Another couple of weeks went by, and I received an email saying my account couldn't be closed because I still had $20 or so remaining. I called the Wells Fargo customer service number, and explained that I wanted the remaining funds transferred into the new account and the old account closed. I was told that this simple process would take 5-7 business days. It has been 2 weeks now, and my account has yet to be closed. I guess Wells Fargo still operates by stagecoach, because my simple request- close one account- has taken a month and counting to be fulfilled. I encourage you to bank elsewhere, because you'll get nothing but problems with Wells Fargo.

This year I wanted to prepay my taxes. I called their loan department to find out if they would suspend my impounds for the year if I prepaid or what I needed to do. I was advised that I would have to continue my impounds but that after the dates the mortgage installments were due they would confirm they were paid and then send me my refund for the overages. They did this after my May installment. After my Oct tax payment date I called Associated Loan services where I was told they no longer will send the overages I will have to wait until next May. That gives them my money for 18 months. This is not what they told me when I made my initial call. They can confirm that my taxes are paid. They can confirm that they have all that money in my escrow account as an overage. They originally told me they would refund after confirmation of tax payment and now they will not release my funds.

We moved from TCF bank, as TCF had just started charging customers for having a checking account balance fall below a set $ avg. per month. We have opened savings, checking, credit accounts and have had (4) car loans through them. The customer service is like what one would expect in a small town. Thank you Joe Wabs. The rates I have received are far lower than any around. And general fees are less than any bank. Do some research. Visit their office (It may seem relaxed, because it is). Glad we found them!
