My favourite chippy in the world. As usual I had the haddock, chips and mushy peas, as usual it was…read moresuperb. You even get a scallop on top which makes it for me. The seating is unique, you can either be conventional and eat in the restaurant or eat in the bus. Yes this must be only place I've ever been to where you can eat in a bus. Family owned and it shows, it really is a gem. Only downside is parking can get a little tight but nothing can detract from this wonderful place.

Near me there are no 'proper' chippies,we have lots of Chinese chippies (Who lets face it do…read moreawesome Chinese food, but the ones near me have never mastered the art of batter for fish). But no traditional English chippies, and by that I mean ones that cook things like they do by the sea, crispy bubbly batter and chips that taste like chips. Now,as much as I like fish and chips i'm not one for driving an hour to Blackpool for some (Not helped by the fact that I detest Blackpool these days). But i'd been told about Grandma Pollards a few years ago and as myself and Mrs Z were at a loose end the other day we thought we'd give it a try. First off the exterior, the front just looks like any other chippy/chippy restaurant, but round the back it is a different story. Not only can you eat your food in a parked up bus, they also have a picnic area right by the canal (see pics) and a lovely spot it is too! Being boring we decided to eat inside the plaice (see what I did there?) and we both opted for the same food namely jumbo haddock, chips and mushy peas,or to give it's real name, food of the mythical sky beings.... Large haddock said the menu, and bloody large it was too,it was hanging over the side of the plate large. It was also really, really lovely, the batter was crispy and bubbly in equal measure and the fish inside was soft, flaky and tasty. The chips did indeed taste of chips and the mushy peas were also of the top notch variety. Grandma pollard also sells home made pies (none of that Hollands mush) and their own cakes, and even though we were incredibly stuffed from our fish feast we decided to get a couple of pies and a brick sized vanilla slice to take home with us,all of which were very nice, especially the vanilla slab!! I am now very happy because i've found a proper chippy that is not too far away from home, and at the end of the day that's what's important in life,a proper chippy!!

Went here tonight for a take away order for 10 people…read more Service was nice and friendly. I had been here a few times before and thought it was ok. Most recent was 2 weeks ago. Suzanne. When we got home with our order, we had 2 portions missing from our order. The chips we did receive were old and shriveled and dry. Terrible. When we were waiting in the restaurant for our order to be ready, the employees were saying they had "no new chips" and were waiting a while to fulfill orders for new people walking in and ordering. Quite a queue developed. When we got home with our order, not only did we find Her that things were missing , they had given us all their old, dry, shrivelled chips for our take away order.... They were dry, almost cold and not anything I would accept in real time. Furthermore, they neglected to give us the two extra portions we had ordered and paid for. The fish we received were half the size of the fish I'd had from this place, less than a month before. So disappointed. Out group of 10 was very disappointed due to 1. Missing food (2 portions of chips) 2. The chips we had were old, shrivelled and dry. 3. The fish were half the size of what we had from the same place, less than 1 month ago. A lot of people left a lot of food. We will never go back here.

Home of the Jumbo Cod. If you live in the most northerly…read morepoint of Manchester & the Prestwich area then you have properly already seen or had Armstrongs Chippy with its iconic "Home of the Jumbo Cod" slogan. But for the rest of us, this family run chippy is unknown and that people is a shame. The Armstrongs in Shaw has been open a while now but I've never ever really ventured until one day I got a real craving for Fish & Chips. I've ventured to quite a few Fish & Chips establishments while out on patrol for my dinners but nowhere matches Armstrongs. The servings are huge. A potion of Chips can easily feed two people. The Jumbo Cod is humongous ! (See Picture) Staff are very pleasant Food is lovely !
