Cap n' Cork - Outside

Cap n' Cork

(9 reviews)

During the holidays, I needed to buy some alcohol for all the festivities! It had been personally a…read morehard year for myself and my family. We wanted to thus drink because it was traditional to do so, would be comforting, and we wanted to both celebrate surviving it, in the case of my mom literally. My favorite type of wine is Albariño, it is a white wine native to Portugal (where it is known as Alvarinho) and Northwestern Spanish region of Galicia. For those reading and interested, this is the taste profile according to The Spruce Eats: "Albariño is a dry white wine with aromas of citrus and peach. On the palate, the wine can exhibit characteristics of grapefruit, lemon peel, apricot, and sweet melon. Because the grapes tend to grow in coastal regions, they can also have a touch of salinity. Some wines may exhibit a slightly bitter finish, similar to citrus pith. Overall, albariño is light-bodied and low in tannins but high in acid. The high acidity makes this wine refreshingly mouth-watering and best served well-chilled." I used to have it quite often when I lived in Miami, but had become a difficult thing to find up here. I was in the past able to order a number of them through a local liquor store near my house, but that sometimes required large minimum orders and that can be a bit of a pain. So i started checking out or calling local liquor and wine stores in the area. I was about to throw my hands up and give up when I came into this Cap n' Cork. I made my way to the wine section and beheld albariño. So glad I finally found a place I can get some of this wine by the bottle. Excellent!

So, I'll start by saying that this location is not huge, but they have a great selection of…read moreliterally everything. I grew up in Fort Wayne, but I moved away before I could take advantage of this location. Just went in for the first time about a week ago--and I'm so happy I did! When I first walked in, I was greeted by soemoen working--always a nice touch especially when I was looking for something specific for my mom. The man was super helpful, and after finding what I needed, I decided to check out the rest of the space. They have a staggering selection of wines and beers compared to many other places I've visited in Fort Wayne. And the selection in the place had many options that were locally sourced from Indiana, which is great if you're looking for new options made in the area! They had almost 2 fridge sections of just Indiana/Fort Wayne beers, which I love trying when I'm home from California. After picking out a local beer (Taxman), I wandered closer to the check out counter to find a tasting area! The man behind the tasting area said they are open everyday for tasting, and he also asked what I liked--and I ended up trying a limited edition Don Julio that had been aged in Scotch Barrels. It was fabulous and I would have never ever know this existed without his help! Loved my experience here and I can't wait to go back to try out more local options!

Rudy's - Cigar area

Rudy's is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It's a homey place that looks almost…read morelike a fraternity house, with a big patio, Nirvana playing in the background (literally, All Apologies was playing from a speaker somewhere when I rolled up), and this chaotic energy that I can't place. I think some of that energy starts with the sign on the door that says that you need to be prepared to show that you're 21+ in order to enter. I entered, and no one asked me whether I was over 21. Alrighty then! I visited because I wanted a bottle of wine to take back to my hotel. I read that Rudy's has wine, and they do, but it's a small wall of wine with maybe a dozen different bottles. Two of the bottles are from Oliver Winery (too sweet for me, I already know), and maybe four other bottles also looked light and sweet. I ended up finding a decent-looking Pinot Noir that was a little more than I wanted to pay initially, but once I opened it, I could see where the extra couple of bucks went. It was a good bottle of red. But, if you're looking for a variety of wines, this is not the place to visit. And if you're looking for beers, the same applies. They do have some beers in a refrigerator, but they're sparse. Mostly, though, Rudy's is a cigar bar, and everything about it screams cigars once you step inside. I know very little about cigars beyond what my dad has imparted upon me; he has taken up smokin' stogies in the past couple of years. I think he would love this place, and if you're a cigar smoker, I think you might love it, too. It's just not my vibe, but I'm glad it exists for those who it vibes with.

My nomadic spirit takes me to some cool places. I found…read moremyself at Rudy's Cigar Shop in Fort Wayne, Indiana, by recommendation of my pal. Though it's called a shop, it seemed to me to be anything but. It's a cigar house, yep, a literal house with a porch, a front yard with seating and a view of a baseball field, a member lounge complete with a full kitchen, amazing back yard seating areas culminated with an incredible two-story deck. They carry a pretty great selection of cigars and accessories, local wines and chocolates, drinks, snacks, and Rudy's merch. I'd travel back to Fort Wayne just to hang out there. The owner is originally from Michigan. The staffer who graciously served as my guide shared with me that the shop folk take a cigar train trip twice a year. I'm definitely scheduling that on my calendar for 2025. #cigars #cigarshop #fortwayne #detroitcigarsmoker #cigartravel

Staff is very friendly and willing to help with any questions you may have. This store is filled with the oldies but classic goodies as well as upcoming trends in the liquor scene and local distilled, brewed, or barreled in Fort Wayne. They often have prices marked down on sale which ends up being a great deal. It's sometimes a good markdown. They have cold beer on hand in the coolers and they have lots of side items such as butters simple syrup salts and tons of mixers. It's fun to see what new items they have what's been marked down and what you can't leave the store without. Behind the counter they have a wide variety of cigars and cigarettes and the supplies to go with that hobby. Along with that they have bottle openers gift bags nuts and gum. Plus much more. What I love about this location as well as their others is that hey offer alcohol tastings at various times. And for FREE!! I enjoy coming to these because it lets me taste things that I have been wanting to try but didn't want to spend the money on it if I didn't enjoy it. It also gives men ideas on what to mix liquor with or a special drink to add to my collection. Like them on FB and you'll see the events they have. Some are pop ups too. I def recommend coming here. Is a great place to buy local and anything else you love.
