I say depth because on the outside it looks relatively small but once you're inside it stretches all the way back. They use this space to stock a wide variety of alcohol including a good selection of beer and everything from fine wine to Lambrini. Don't look round the store for the spirit section, they keep the hard stuff behind the counter. Open until 11pm this is a good place to grab a few drinks after an afternoon pint. Be warned on match day evening they operate a one in one out policy and you may have to wait to even get close to the booze. Although don't fear the counter staff have this serving malarky down to a tee. They are also fluent in drunk so you won't need your subtitles turned on in here. All in all a good and handy store. No complaints from me.

It's a strange place compared to a lot of the other off sales stores in Belfast. It looks a little dated and the door bell is the loudest, most irritating thing ever. Neill wines is unassuming from the outside, located on Groomsport's Main Street it has limited branding and no flashy signs that give any indication of the delights that are inside. Much like a treasure chest it's only when you go inside that you are exposed to the vast bounty. The shelves are stacked high and deep with a huge array of craft beers. From local brews to exotic Caribbean beers this place has it all. Along side the traditional lagers they had a bargain bin with 3 beers for a fiver and being the adventurous type I choose 3 beers I had never seen or heard of before. I ended up with a coffee flavoured beer from Ireland (nice and local) and a pale ale from England that made my taste buds scream for more. That's the beauty of going to Neill Wines, it's a lottery and you might just hit the jackpot and come out clasping your new favourite beer. If you're more of a wine connoisseur then they have a huge selection for you too, not being a huge fan of wine I stuck to the craft beers but I noticed the wines were all shelved by region. Ask the staff for advice if you're not sure what to go for, they seem to know their stuff although I wish the attendant had of warned me that my coffee flavoured beer was more like beer flavoured coffee, anyway you live and learn. If you're a craft fan, as so many people are these days, I would suggest you take a wee jaunt down the coast to visit Neill Wines or look them up online and see what they have in stock you're bound to come across something new.

There is a good selection of red wines and spirits and the staff are always helpful if you can't find what you need. It is now a lot more modest with the space being split between a small off licence and a large alcohol cash and carry. While this means things are a little bit easier to find, the choice of booze etc is not what it once was and the prices are actually a little big higher than the other off licences in Bangor. If it wasn't for the staff, who are always friendly and helpful this place would probably get two stars, but the effort they always put in makes this a pretty solid 3-star off licence. You will get what you pay for but you may have to pay a little bit more than you would normally.

You know what you're getting with Winemark, a decent selection of your main beers, ciders and stouts, wines and spirits with good offers from time to time. The guys in Ballyholme Winemark know a decent bit about wine too if you're stuck and their staff have always been friendly over the 15 years I've been going here. I think it's the banter of the staff and sometimes other customers I go back for. They don't offer a breathtaking variety of spirits but I suppose they know their target customers well enough by now. Recently due to the boom of craft beers they've started stocking some terrific ones from the Hilden brewery which I have been sampling keenly recently as I'm slowly moving away from wild nights drinking Buckfast (which they sell by the barrel load). They also usually have free samples of wine or spirits on a Friday and Saturday which I think a lot of customers enjoy. There's parking right outside too and in the adjoining streets, a bank machine a few metres away and a Chinese takeaway and a supermarket right across the road for provisions for the evening and to line your stomach...!

Still I'm keen to get every ounce out of my local off licence so I resolved to find something especially with the road was smoothed by a shot of promotional peach shnapps they'd given me. When in doubt about wine to choose I look for prizewinning labels. The only one I found in here was a bottle of Castillo de Molina Sauvigon Blanc, 2009 from the Elqui Valley in Chile, which was a success. It's far easier to get beer, cider and spirits in here though. The staff are nice too, and keen to advise on the spirit line especially so when my household needed a bottle of rum or whiskey I came here and went home happily supplied.

The forecourt is too small and parking is hard and quite frankly frustrating at times. The shop has grown and expanded over the years but the forecourt hasn't which makes it gridlock at times! There are great selections of fruit and veg and baked goods, and there is a delicious deli counter, with a delicious old lady called Eleanor who works behind it ! ;D The staff here are really bubbly and friendly, which can't be said of a lot of shops of this nature. The prices are surprisingly competitive compared to other stores like spar etc, only the Big 3 stores can really defeat it! Oh I forgot another criticism. The name. It is a joke. That is all!
