Bad Check Cashing Service by Manager: On approximately 02-24-26, I went into the store to get my…read moreSSI check cashed. I handed the manager the check, and then, she looked at it and told me to endorse the check. Afterwards, she approved my alternative identification (Miller County photo ID card, Miller County regular voter registration card, and Medicaid ID card). Then, she took my photo and put the check into a verifier; and the electronic voice said, "verified." Next, she got some packs of money out before looking at the check a second time and noticing that the check was issued on 08-01-25 (one year expiration date). Afterwards, "even though she had already reviewed my fairly recent SSI award letter that includes $18,999 of back pay," she thought about backing out of cashing the $967 check and put the check into the verifier a second time; and the electronic voice said, "verified." Next, she asked, "Why did you not get it cashed?" Then, she asked me, "Did you have this check cancelled out?" before calling the SSA. She handed me the phone, and I put my SSN in to the SSA system and waited for the customer service person to take the call. I gave the phone back to her and let her talk to him while she was holding the check. Do I seem like someone who was trying to get her to give me money for a cancelled check? Think about it. Why did I not leave the store right after she called the SSA? She asked him multiple times, "Can you verify the check?" He laughed and said that the system would verify the check. She said that she did not trust the system enough to cash this check, and he eventually ended this crazy call. The system will not catch all of the fraud checks that will go into it, but this is an SSI check, which was issued by the federal government (not a mom and pop store). Cashing a system verified restaurant check would be riskier even if the check was issued one day ago. Actually, if you cash a bad check that will be system verified, it will probably be a mom and pop check that will "not" be cancelled out (not enough money to pay it). For a system verified SSI check to be bad, there would have to be froad on this by the US government even if the person that gave it to you called and had the check cancelled out. If this person had the check cancelled out, he or she is guilty of intentional froad, and the US government is guilty of unintentional fraud. If the unintentional froad is eliminated from it, the check would show up "not" verified. If this person did not have the check cancelled out, it was intentional froad by the US government. Think about it. If yesterday, you unintentionally gave someone a hot personal bank check that has your account number, it was unintentional froad. Do you really believe that the federal government is going to froad this manager? Do you see why the SSA worker was laughing at her? Also, I was ticked off because this check was pre signed when I walked out of the store. I handed her the check. Then, she could have made the decision on the issue date and handed me the unendorsed check back. I went to the Walmart on Summerhill Rd afterwards and learned that this store turned down pre signed checks (must be signed in front of clerk). What if it was a medical emergency, your health insurance would not pay for all of it, you had no bank account and/or regular prepaid card, you walked out of this liquor store with a pre signed uncashed check because this crazy liquor store manager told you to endorse it and, later, backed out because of the issue date even though the check was still in date; and the Summerhill Rd Walmart refused to cash the pre signed check? Remember that Direct Express prepaid cards are mainly for government funds. Refunds is the only exception. You will not be able to use Direct Express to cash an SSA check if this manager does this to you while you have a medical emergency. If she doesn't be careful on this, someone might sue her in civil court. Remember it does not have to be a crime for you to take it to civil court, and if having you sign the check at a bad time for it leads to a person's death, it would be manslaughter. The manager asked me if I stayed in the Randy Sams' Shelter. I pay room rent, and I do not live in a homeless shelter. If you have an old federal government check that is more than 6 months old, and you attempt to get it cashed at this store, this business might cash it. In this situation, it was "not an automatically not cash my old check policy." The store has a case by case "discretion call policy on old federal government checks policy." The day that the manager backed out on cashing my check, I needed a haircut. Later, my hair was cut. If my hair had been cut right before I tried to get the manager to cash the check, she probably would have cashed it. This store does "second party" federal government check cashing instead of "third party" federal government check cashing.
