The library had put together packets with all the materials needed for a successful project, and set them next to full-size sewing machines. There were experienced seamstresses and quilters available to lead us through each step, and we both left with beautiful tote bags, complete with quilted exterior pocket. I look forward to growing my sewing skill set, and plan on attending another workshop.

Another member whom I'd never met before, confronted me aggressively in the locker room--loud, intimidating, invasive, and completely unprovoked. But the real shock was the YMCA's response: almost nothing. Weeks passed before any meaningful action was taken, and even then it was a token gesture, not a solution. What makes this worse is learning that the same member targeted another Asian-American woman only weeks before me. Still, the YMCA brushed everything aside as if it wasn't serious. This is not about drama. It's about the YMCA failing to protect women in their facility. The lack of accountability and the dismissive attitude from leadership were honestly far more traumatizing than the incident itself. If you're considering joining--especially if you're a woman or a person of color--please read this as a warning.

Each person gets a one hour visit once a week based on where they are housed. There is an ATM style kiosk that takes money for commesary (if your loved one needs to call you, this is what money they will use). Note ... despite signs saying one cannot add money from 12 to 12 on Saturday, due to the kiosk disregard this. And yes the kiosk does charge a dependent fee based on money added. You may have items mailed from Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com directly. You may send mail through the post and pictures. Just know that everything you send will be read.

As a registered voter and former political candidate, I can't say enough about the competency, professionalism, and demeanor of all of the employees there, starting with Deva Proto. As our elected official, Ms. Proto runs an efficient and friendly office, which isn't something that can be said for all of our elected officials, especially someone with so much influence and impact on our system of democracy. Sonoma County should be proud of our Assessor, Recorder, Registrar of Voters.

The process at the window itself took just a few minutes, photo taking and biometric another 3-4 minutes, we were out (two people's renewal process done) in 40 minutes. No standing in queues, no long waits (since mostly every thing was completed online). The staff is attentive and helpful. Enough onsite parking available.

Let's start off with a minor downside: I made an appoitment online, so I expected that I would be…read moreable to waltz in, present my requisite documents, and be on my way with a new "Real ID" CDL in about 10-15 minutes from start to finish. It turns out that an appointment only gets you into the "appointment" line, and there's only one dude who checks you in. Great -- except he alternates between the "appointment" line and the "walk-in" line. I wouldda hoped that the DMV would have had TWO check-in spots -- one for "appointments" and one for "walk-ins". OK, by my count they saved maybe 5% in labor expense by having only ONE check-in window. So my 10-15 minute out the door turned into a (still not horrible) 30-40 minute visit. Having said that, the rest of the process went pretty smoothly, other than not knowing when my number would come up, as they don't show the queue on their "now serving" overhead screens. Eventually I yelled "bingo" and went to the next window, where I was greated by a friendly, yet efficient DMV employee who re-reviewed my required documentation for the Real ID license, collected the required fee, and then said to proceed to the DMV photo booth (not actually a booth, but a "please stand here, with your toes on the line and face the camera" plea from the next friendly employee). You should definitely be prepared for your "best face" (not like DJT's official portrait), because you only get one shot -- you don't get any retakes. Make sure to brush your teeth before your visit so that coffee (or red wine) stains don't capture the moment inappropriately. You're gonna have to live with the result for 5 years...
