I figured it wouldn't hurt to look at one more apartment, so I contacted the complex and immediately heard back from Dave, the manager, who was more than willing to show me the space. I kid you not, as soon as I walked into the apartment, I knew I had made the right decision to hold off on signing a lease on the other apartments. Not only was the apartment spacious and well kept, but it has covered parking, located in a great area with TONS of restaurants nearby, on a side street. There is little street noise, it's located in a very safe area, and the manager, Dave, is always so friendly and goes above and beyond to help if there is ever an issue. For example, after I moved in, I noticed that my kitchen sink was leaking. I texted Dave and he immediately had someone come out and replace it. But not only did they replace it, but they also put my water filter back on the faucet and checked to make sure it worked. Again, I cannot say enough about how amazing it is to live in this apartment complex. The space, the location, the management, the people, everything! We had a terrible experience at ASO…read more The only staff member I believe is worth your money is Lloyd, the maintenance worker, who practically carried the entire building and was extremely responsive. Upon move-in, we discovered a broken refrigerator that had to be replaced and a dishwasher that probably also needs to be replaced. The apartment flooded within two days of our arrival. The building is outdated and poorly maintained. I am now living in a place that is about twenty years older, three hundred dollars cheaper per month, is in the same general location, and larger, yet it is significantly cleaner and far better maintained. The staff at ASO was unresponsive, frequently and conveniently out of the office, and generally showed a lack of consideration toward tenants. I understand that things get busy and not every request can be answered immediately, but consistently ignoring tenants is unacceptable. We paid rent on time, kept to ourselves, and were very respectful of the space. We even cleaned the apartment and patched and painted minor wall marks. Despite this, we were charged a cleaning fee that matched our entire security deposit down to the cent. I regret not taking a video to defend myself, but I should not have needed to. Basic post-move-out maintenance is standard and should not result in an added fee. Trash service alone was ninety dollars per month. I now pay less than fifty dollars for all general utilities combined, so learning that we were being hit with so many extra charges was shocking. On top of that, there were random monthly fees and exceptionally high rent for a nine hundred twenty square foot apartment. Nearly four thousand dollars a month is simply not worth it, especially for a unit located above an alley and in such outdated condition. They also claimed they were doing us a favor with a one-time exception for dropping off our keys outside their preferred hours. It should not be unreasonable for two people working nine-to-five jobs to need a practical drop-off time. Almost everything seemed inconvenient to them, and interactions were generally unpleasant. After we moved out, they even mailed us passive aggressive printed photos of supposed damages. The images showed nothing visibly wrong, apart from a cabinet door that constantly fell off and had been reported when I first moved in, and again in the final maintenance request before move out. Do not be scammed by this place. They also charged us extra for having a guarantor as if he were a third tenant, even though we never stated that a third person lived there and provided email proof. They refused to reimburse us despite witnesses, including maintenance staff, who could confirm there were only two of us living in the unit. It was a two-bedroom apartment and our guarantor is thirty years older than us, so the situation was absurd. I strongly suggest avoiding this building, especially if you are young and renting your first apartment. It is very easy to get taken advantage of when you are still learning the process.
