It's a small little store in the middle of downtown and we were able to find authentic food, candy and other gadgets like for putfferjest. If you need a break from the Germanic theme of Helen, take a detour to Holland in the Windmill Dutch Imports shop. You'll find all sorts of blue and white ceramic delft ware, wooden shoes (& slippers that look like them!), a wall of Dutch snacks and foodstuffs, and other gifts. read more

They'll hang up on you, need some major professionalism training. I called to ask if they had stroopwafel in stock, because I don't live close by and wanted to make sure they did before making the drive. Both times, they hung up on me after I asked if they had it in stock. The second time, they even introduced themselves (that's how I know I wasn't accidentally calling a wrong number), then let me ask my question, and then promptly hung up on me. Even if they didn't have stroopwafel, they could've told me so in less than 10 seconds rather than hanging up on me. Even if they have never stroopwafel, I still feel like it's a reasonable question since they're in Helen and have "Dutch" in the name. Guess I'll be getting the cheap stuff from Publix unfortunately. While waiting for our table at the neighboring Heidelberg restaurant, we stepped over to Windmill for curiosity shopping. A small shop and it was rather crowded today by tourists not wearing masks and that's how it is when you're outside the metro Atlanta area. This is the perfect shop for people who just can't get to Amsterdam. Clogs, windmills, delft pottery and all sorts of other mementoes for your trip to the Netherlands without even leaving Georgia. Prices were medium to high but understandable considering that most of this is imported. Lots to look at and if you're looking for an "authentic" souvenir of your trip to Helen, this is the spot. I set my GPS to the Windmill Dutch Imports store coming from Gainesville. It really was a scenic drive to get there. You know you have arrived in the Bavarian town of Helen when all the streets and the houses and the store fronts have that unique German decor and colorful flags waving in the breeze. The Chattahoochee River meanders thru town. Back to the Windmill store. Mary de Groot has run this Dutch import store for at least 40 years. She offers all things Dutch, including Delfts Blue and Dutch cookies and wooden colored tulips and yellow painted wooden shoes. What a great lady she is with the utmost command of the Amsterdam Hollandse language. We had a great time conversing. Yes, we bought souvenirs and an orange colored cap with red, white, and blue flag embroidery. The Windmill Dutch Import store was definitely a memorable and worthwhile visit. What a cute little shop! I loved their two walls covered with treats from Holland. AND their slippers version of wooden shoes! My mom wanted to come here specifically to look at all their blue and white dishes and ornaments. She even bought an adorable windmill ornament! Great place! read more

Saturday April 5, in Fau Bavarian Village of Helen, Ga after eating I went to explore some of the shops off of Helen Square while Tony enjoyed sitting in the sun at the Bier Garden outside the front door of the shop drinking and listening to Country music.... The shop is full of gorgeous Delft china pieces..I love these pieces that are white and delft blue...I would love to have shopped here but WAY WAY expensive... Nice though, very small and crowded...Not good for little ones..too many breakables.. read more

What a charming store! I was visiting Helen, Georgia, with a friend for a weekend, and I needed to find something to take back to my husband as a gift/souvenir since he couldn't make the trip. His family is Dutch, so I was tickled pink to find a Dutch import store in town. And it's owned by Dutch immigrants and it has actual Dutch imports. I was able to get a very charming Delft-style piece for a reasonable price! They also had some really interesting food items! Definitely check it out if you're in Helen. Great place to buy a souvenir (even if Helen is a German town)! read more

Lots of traditional and contemporary Dutch options. We bought some food that you can only get in Nederland. The cashier was the owner and very Dutch, direct and polite, and will speak to you in her native language if you want. Glad we popped in on our drive through to Atlanta. I'm American, but my family is Dutch and it was so nice to find this store filled with imported dutchie food favorites. The prices of the foods wasn't overpriced for being imported. I loved all of the goodies the store had and the prices were reasonable. I had great customer service. I rated this 4 stars over 5 bc I was a little disappointed by the price of an outdated cookbook from the 90's, they were asking $21 for it. I really wanted it, but then... I'm Dutch and we're extremely frugal people.... I found it elsewhere for 1/4 of the cost. read more
