I'd never heard of this lavender farm, but a friend of mine suggested that we go for their "Autumn Tea" - it was a fantastic experience! The tea was held in an old barn that was filled with drying lavender. The tables were very nicely decorated with beautiful dishes that had lavender on them, and purple tablecloths. They were very well organized, and we were seated as soon as we arrived. We had a choice of six lavender blended teas, and were able to try more than one before the day was over. In addition, we were given six small sandwiches that were so creative an interesting - and all contained lavender. That was followed by three desserts with - you guessed it - lavender. During the tea, the owner told about how she came to own the farm, and all about the history and properties of lavender. This was an *excellent* experience, and I highly recommend these teas. They are only held in Autumn, and sell out fast. We bought our tickets in August when they went on sale. I'd definitely go back - even if it wasn't for a tea, and just wander around the farm. read more

DON'T BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE! Absolute worst experience of my life. I have never been so insulted or so rudely treated in my life. My children and I have been to lavender farms all over Washington State and Hawaii and I love to share the joy of lavender with them. I brought them with me to this farm, excited to continue our enjoyment together as a family and was mortified by my experience, as were they. When I walked up, they had a tasting. The woman running it gave my children a dirty look and told me that I MUST watch them. Duh? My children were very polite and not running around like monkeys or doing anything that constituted such rude treatment right from the start. When I started to walk into the shop to look, my 2 year old began to cry. Before I had a chance to even ask him what was wrong the owner RAN up to me and told me "I will not allow this here! That is not allowed here" referring to my son. I walked back out thinking surely this man is joking and yet trying to talk to my small child about why he was crying. I went back up to the owner later and kindly said to him, "sir I am really disappointed with the way you handled that situation with me and my small son". He didn't allow me to finish a single word before he went off on me. He called my son a "wreck" and said he would not allow that at his farm. I told him I was sorry that I could not support him or his farm if this is the way he treated people. He told me "good, I don't want you to support me, I want you to leave, GET OUT" he yelled and told me to leave. My friend and his wife were with my children and I and they also made a comment to the owner about how rude he was being to us. He told us that if we tried to come back we would not be ALLOWED back. The owner was downright cruel and I would go so far as to say evil in the way he treated my family. All because my two year old son began to cry. read more

A lavender farm in Missouri? A 17 acre lavender farm just about 20 miles outside the city? It keeps getting stranger... I was totally speechless when I came to the farm for a gathering not long ago. Not only did the place smell spectacular, but the purple stuff was beautifully abundant. They've got more than 7,000 plants and 8 varieties. To think, no one thought it could be done. The property has a lovely lavender boutique that sells aromatherapy, culinary, comfort, bath/body, decorative glassware, spa, pet and floral gifts and products made with lavender. read more

This place is a trip! I went here today with the purpose of buying some bath and body products for Christmas gifts. Upon entering the farm one is immediately whisked back to an older place and time. The lavender field in front of the gift shop is something I've never seen. Up ahead, on top of the hill, is the gift shop. I was only there for their bath and body supplies so I can't comment on their other items, but I can say the b&b items are very high quality. All of the items radiated with an aura that admitted that they were made with love and passion like in centuries past and unlike so many of the mass produced items on the market nowadays. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out when the ocassion is right. read more

This place needs a lesson in customer service! We were really excited to come out for the first time, but were rudely welcomed and I will not return for a second chance. I hope it was just a bad day on their part and they don't treat other customers rudely, but judging by some of the reviews I've read about this place it seems they could learn some manners. read more

Absolutely loved it! Picking a lavender bundle for just $12 and some change (that includes tax) is cool. I recommend coming here during the early spring & not late summer. It's simply too hot. It's a quaint place with an aroma that totally calms you down. read more

This was the only lavender farm I've visited and frankly, I was a little disappointed. To be fair, perhaps my expectations were too high. I was hoping to swing by and pick up a few plants...no go. They only had a handful of plants for sale. The concept behind a lavender farm is cutting lavender to dry -- not buying plants. The place was okay. Kinda nice but nothing suited for really relaxing and enjoying your surroundings. Guess I have to buy my lavender elsewhere. read more

Amazing.....the farm is absolutely beautiful. The gift shop is gorgeous....filled with a calming fragrance of lavender. I went there out if curiosity and was pleasantly surprised by the items there. Everything naturally made of lavender from bath products to cooking items. My favorite by far is the mulled wine lavender tea bag. I recommend that u try it at least once!! Everything was reasonably priced and the staff was very friendly. Ill b visiting again soon. read more

The shop was quaint enough, but the owner lacked manners and human decency. She would not allow my senior citizen resident to use her private bathroom, stating it was an old septic line, and if you allow one then others will want to use it. read more

If you are at all considering bringing children here, do yourself a favor and DON'T. There are so many other farms welcoming of children and the joys of their learning and discovering. I was very underwhelmed by this lavender farm based off the information presented via their website. I was excited and impressed after reading on their website how they took land long-held by their family and turned it into a lavender farm (something that would unlikely in the midwest, due to climate conditions). The website perpetuates everything I love about lavender - calming, peaceful, beautiful; howver, my time yesterday at this farm delivered none of this. Upon entering the store to inquire about harvesting/picking our own lavender we were somewhat wierdly followed in by the owner. It was off putting. We then were told we would not be able to pick lavender due to the weather and growing conditions. I understand the weather conditions are out of their control, but I felt like there was no attempt made to be kind or accomodate our small group in another fashion. (I had emailed a week prior to inquire about when harvesting would begin and was told it would be ready, but when there I was told I should have called before driving down to the farm...that would have been helpful information in the email or if posted on their website). Since we had a small group with 3 children, and had driven about 30 minutes we attempted to enjoy the farm. I felt a strong sense that we were intruding and not fully welcomed. With one exception, the teenagers working in the fields were friendly and engaging with out children. I highly suggest NOT taking children here as I don't feel they are welcomed nor wanted. In my opinion, this is a shame because there is so much they could learn here, and a place they could enjoy 'unplugged' from the hectic worlds they live in. In fact, based on other reviews (unfortunately read after the fact of our trip), they should just post clearly on their website 'no children allowed.' It would save an unpleasant experience for all. Clearly their 'bread and butter' is retired ladies or woman w/out children who will come in purchase their bundle of lavender without much adieu; all others need not apply. read more

Visited the farm in August on a Sunday. My boyfriend and I were the only ones there. We had to search quite a while for enough lavender to make a cut bouquet. The majority of the plants were not flowering. The website states it is a 17 acre farm which is the size of the property, the actual lavender planted is about 2 acres. The website looks better than the actual farm, it is not worth your time or money, a whole lot of promotion with no delivery. I thought I was going to see fields of lavender blooming that is simply not the case. The website states no professional photography, we were standing on the property taking a self portrait and were told there were no photos allowed. There is one picturesque spot with a barn and the public is not allowed in that area. The products in the shop are quite expensive. It would be better to look online for products. read more

This place does not like kids. Be warned that you should not bring children here. Also, do not talk back to the owner unless you want to feel his verbal wrath. We have been to this farm a number of times over the past few years and have recommended the place to others. That will not happen again. Today we went with a friend and her two young boys and you could immediately feel the hostility when we walked up to the Store. When the two year old did what many two year olds do and started to cry our friend took her son out of the store and calmed him down. At this point the owner asked her to leave! Incredible! I went to the man and told him that my wife and I would not be back. His response, in a very hostile tone, was that he would not allow us back on his property. Unbelievable! The irony is that all the advertising for lavender describes it's calming affect. Not at this place! He had told my friend when he told her to leave that her children were a wreck which in my estimation would be a better word to describe their lavender fields. If you want a true lavender farm experience I would recommend you go to the state of Washington and go to Sequim or to San Juan Island. read more

My family and I visited Winding Brook Estate in early summer of 2011. We had been really looking forward to our visit, but were a bit disappointed. Winding Brook was a fragrant and pretty place. The tour was informational and the gift shop offered a variety of unique products. However, the selection of lavender pastries that were mentioned on the website ("available daily") amounted to a couple of pieces of gooey butter cake that didn't look fresh. U Pick Harvesting was not available. Most damagingly, the staff was not particularly welcoming. The tour person made some negative remarks about the west county dwellers in the area and the staff generally did not seem to like that I brought my children. At the end of our visit, one staff member complimented me about how well-behaved my children were, but the whole time we were there I felt uncomfortable, like they did not want us to be there. I really wanted to like the farm, and feel badly that the lavender crop has not done well in the past few years due to weather conditions, but I will not likely return in the near future or order from their shop. read more

I had looked forward to visiting since they opened and have followed the website faithfully. Finally my husband and I were able to make the 45 minute drive plus another hour of driving around looking for the farm. I am a lavender addict and planned to buy lots of it for my home. What a disappointment. When we arrived we were the only customers there. I walked into the gift shop and began to look around. It quickly became very uncomfortable because there was an adult lady behind the counter along with a teenage girl who argued with each other (and the girl cried aloud!) almost the whole time we were there! Apparantly they were mother and daughter and the daughter was very unhappy but it was very uncomfortable to be there - it's a small shop and there was no way to get away from it, other than to leave. At one point I asked about picking lavender and was rudely told that I could not do that and was pointed toward some small dried bundles on display. I did buy one (rather expensive) and walked outside. Soon 2 other ladies arrived to shop and must have had about the same experience from what they said to us as they too were leaving. I was an eager-to-buy customer but I was treated rudely and condescendingly, not by the teenager, but by the adult woman. I am sorry to say that we have no plans to return. It's a shame too because a place like that COULD be such a wonderful place in the area. read more
