Walking my dog though the lighted tunnel on the sidewalk
    Amanda B.

Husband and I took our dog down for our walk through Candy Cane Lane. It is crowded at the start but once you start walking the crowd expands out and people go different directions then its not so crowded. Love how there are 3 different streets to walk down. We walk around 2 miles and its great to wear my dog out.

I stopped by Candy Cane Lane on a Thursday in December. The line to enter the street wasn't too bad. The whole thing took maybe 10 minutes and then we drove to the other block called Angel something? Candy Cane Lane is always great. It's a mix of people driving and walking through. Very intense and colorful. I wish it lasted longer!

Honestly I didn't expect much of Candy Cane Lane because its just some houses in St. Louis that are in the Christmas spirit. I was so wrong! The houses here really go all out with all of the lights and inflatables. Although the traffic coming in to the neighborhood was a nightmare on a Friday night (I would highly recommend just parking your car in a nearby neighborhood and walking the path instead) the experience was fantastic. Here are some of my favorite parts: - I really appreciate the house with the human light tunnel and it makes for some fantastic pictures. - There was also this one house with all of the inflatables you could possibly buy all piled onto their front porch. It was so overwhelming but so cute! - All the houses are really distinct looking from one another and the people who live in them try to decorate their houses in accordance to the house's personality which I absolutely love. - The holiday celebration doesn't just end with Candy Cane Lane but a lot of the surrounding houses also go all out. I honestly love that they do this and spreading good holiday cheer to everyone. - Oh and Ted Drews is really close by if you want to make it a whole thing. Would definitely recommend visiting if you're in the St. Louis area!

I LOVE Christmas lights, I work with a girl that lives down in the neighborhood and I heard her talking about the great experience. Did not make it down last year, tonight I made it and I was not disappointed. The tangible joy of all the people that were there looking and plus who live there that had fire pits going and were wishing everyone Merry Christmas. Great way to kick my winter break off from school.

Great experience & fun filled family memories! Thankful for the families who take the time to do this!

Run dont walk to Candy Cane Lane. What a great way to spend these mild Winter evenings than strolling through St.Louis Hills neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights.... It was our 1st time here and it did not disappoint. I love how these neighborhoods get into the Festive moods!!! We went on a Thursday so the crowd was not bad at all. I am sure the Weekends are crazy busy. Dont forget to hit up Angel Lane and Snowflake Street!!! Grab some Ted Drew's ir a Hot Coco and enjoy!!

Candy Cane Lane was an absolute dream! Even though I live very close by, I hadn't had a chance to visit yet and am so glad I did. The bulk of the lights are on Murdoch but there are some cute side streets done up as well. I came around 8:30/9 pm so it wasn't crazy busy but I've heard it can get pretty congested so just a head's up. Gorgeous homes, gorgeous lights, and I appreciate all the work that goes into this every year. Definitely add it to your list of holiday light displays!

My coworker lives near Candy Cane Lane and recommended I check it out, and it did not disappoint. Such beautiful lights to drive through. While the streets were a bit busy, it was worth the wait to see all of the charmingly decorated homes. What a wonderful experience!

I'm sure I'm not the only one having trouble truly getting into the Holiday spirit this year. Everyone is too excited to leave 2020 in the rearview mirror. Just three days from the "Big Day," my boyfriend and I buckled up in a 4-horsepower combustion engine sleigh (ok it's a Mazda) for a trip down Candy Cane Lane! This was our first time participating in this South City St. Louis holiday tradition. We were well prepped and expected to creep through traffic as other holiday lovers rolled through the festive neighborhood. While today was a Tuesday, we assumed there would be a massive crowd. But it was a Christmas miracle!! We took a few roads around the neighborhood to come in on a different road and snuck in like Santa down a chimney. With our radio thumping holiday tunes, we loved driving safely through this quaint neighborhood. So many lights! So many inflatables! So much spirit! While we would have loved walking down the street, due to COVID times, we didn't mind staying in the car to check out the displays. A few highlights: - There was a woman covered in lights taking donations. I was so impressed with her yuletide spirit! - One house has a giant SANDta sculpture. Was incredible to see this much sand in St. Louis. - A creepy Santa figure was in an old arm chair. He was the type of thing that make visions of sugar plum fairies disappear from your dreams. Overall, the old-school vibe of this really amped up my Christmas cheer. It felt like a familiar friend visiting for the holidays. We left with warm hearts and big smiles, a bit more prepared for the season.

Nope, it's the time we all come out to support and come together without judgement and feel safe. we can stretch out on the ground and bloop just about anywhere and bring our own or buy to support ( because that's what we are doing when we pay those prices) We choose to battle the traffic and walk through the people to gather for something to do without nonsense. My friends dragged me here, albeit not kicking and screaming but there were definitely some initial resistance due to crowd and traffic. The usual introverted enemies. I'm glad I allowed them to drag me here though. While I totally missed out on the Glow activities, I got to witness the actual race which was fun, filled with entertainment, and a few choice food trucks and vendors to satisfy some of your food and drink cravings while enjoying some fanciful balloons. Yes, parking can be a slight mess but if you come early and exercise patience, the event is actually quite enjoyable. There were face painting booths for the young ones, bunnies to pet, drink trucks for your imbibing needs, and food booths and trucks for your hungry bellies. Walking around the part of Forest park where they held the races is also quite fun. I got to meet some friendly corgi owners and most importantly, their corgis! It is a dog friendly event which means, for you non-people lovers, there is a great chance of meeting a four-legged friend or two. After the races, the inflated balloons did stick around for the general public to check out. I had a great time and got to marvel at the colorful hot air balloons. Did I mention this event is free?!

A TON of wineries participated in the event, which was neat. I'm not a huge wine person. I couldn't tell you the difference between pinot grigio and chardonnay. I don't know how to pair wines with particular foods. All I know is that I like sweet wines! Every vendor that I spoke with had representatives working who seemed to be very knowledgeable about wines, which was a plus. I tried lots of tasty wines! The entry fee isn't too bad; $25 a person, which gives you 10 tickets for 10 tastings of wine (additional tickets can be purchased for $5 per 10). This year they also had a Stella Artois beer seminar (free!) which was very interesting and informative. I have so much more respect now for (good) beer! If you're not into wine, they also had booths with food from various local restaurants, as well as live music. Super cool event! Can't wait to attend again next year!

I loved the established favorites like Huey Lewis, Snoop Dog, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Weezer as well as the newer artists. ZZ Ward and Lecrae are definitely being added to my playlist. The food options were fantastic! They had everything from Dewey's Pizza and Sugarfire to Vicia and Evangeline's. Something delicious for everyone to nosh on. The lines got long at times as expected, but they moved well. The drink lines were the same. We loved the addition of the Malibu Beach House and the Fizz and Folly area. A bonus that you hardly ever witness at a festival: we never had to wait for more than a minute or two for a porta potty...and there was always paper. This was by far the best festival experience I've had in St. Louis. I can't wait for next year!

Ah, Loufest! 2010-2017. I think its safe to say that the festival is now a thing of the past - but…read moreif it does return sometime in the next few years, go ahead and say "I told you so!". In short, it was fun while it was happened. LouFest was supposed to be one of many "smaller" music and arts festivals that would be nothing like the "big boys" (Bonnaroo, Coachella, Lollapalooza) but more of a community-based festival like the ones that were popping up all over the country. I didn't attend the first five Loufests, regretfully, but the last three years were fun for me and my friends. It seemed that it was getting bigger each year, and the lineup of artists/bands was getting better. Loufest had one of the best diverse lineups, with genres of all kinds as well as past and present acts. 2018 was supposed to have classic acts like Robert Plant and hometowner Michael McDonald, along with current artists like Kacey Musgraves, the Brothers Osborne and Gary Clark Jr. You couldn't find another great lineup nearly anyplace else. Some of the middle-rung acts on the roster were found at some of the other festivals that year (caught some at Bonnaroo) and the headliners were very random. It was always like there was something for everyone, whether you enjoyed local goodness, Christian hip-hop or up-and-coming acts. Because of LouFest, I discovered plenty of great acts I still listen to and enjoy today (Lord Huron, Delta Rae, etc.). You had some of the best indie/alternative headliners such as TV on the Radio and Weezer, along with those that were headlining "big boy" festivals at times (LCD Soundsystem, OutKast). It was no wonder LouFest would have a sell-out attendance in recent years. People came from all around to attend this one-of-a-kind festival. And it wasn't just about the music: it was all about supporting local small businesses - including record stores, and of course the food! It was always great to check out some of the St. Louis-area restaurants and local brews. You had it in a great location in Forest Park - up until last year when they temporarily moved it behind the Muny. It was supposed to happen again this year for different reasons. As the old saying goes, "All good things must come to an end...". Unfortunately, it was a very sad, sudden end as it was announced three days before the 2018 festival that it was cancelled. Let me give you a little background: LouFest was going to continue into 2018, straight after the '17 one. Limited tickets were available in October of last year as well as Black Friday (me and my friend both bought ours that day). Their social media presence was alive and well up until May (the usual time when they announced the lineup). People like me got worried as there was no lineup, but finally in late June of this year, it was announced. Next came all the rumors behind all of the backstage drama. This was all about the financial part, but the people behind Loufest's social media accounts assured things were still happening on 9/8 and 9/9. Well, those rumors were put to rest on 9/5/2018. I really don't need to get into much detail about the cause(s) of the festival's demise. That can be found anywhere online. I do believe one of the reasons the 2018 festival didn't happen was crime. Yes, the C-word that is a common cancer to the St. Louis area. Near the end of August, St. Louis' Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner announced she would be no longer accepting cases from 28 St. Louis police officers. Way to go, Kim. (please note the sarcasm) Coincidentally, this is around the same time the festival's main sponsors bowed out. I'm sure it wasn't just for financial purposes. Of course, the lamestream media is not going to report this. I am glad that people did step up and support the businesses that were to participate in 2018's LouFest. I am still bummed to this day that it didn't happen and how it ended. What even stung more is that Robert Plant (while I'm glad he did perform in St. Louis) played at the Pageant and Loufest ticket holders didn't get first dibs (you know, like a lottery-type of thing...). What really should have been done was moving it to the Dome...after all, it's not like anything is going on there! But, St. Louis and logic don't usually go in the same sentence. Or common sense.
