The staff were all friendly and our food was delicious! My wife had the southern chicken with Mac and cheese. She loved it. I had the fish and chips with garlic mashed potatoes and greens beans with bacon. All really good and fresh!

The portions were small but the food was tasty. The steak bites were tender and juicy but couldn't have been elevated with the addition of shaved Brussels or even served on a bed of spring mix. Likewise the Buffalo chicken flatbread that had perfect flavor and texture would have topped the charts with a simple addition of blue cheese crumbles. What is good food if executed with a little tweak could be food worth remembering. We also witnessed an unhappy table and a server unable to appease them - the entire situation left us feeling uncomfortable where if servers are trained how to deal with "Karen" customers the dining experience could be better for everyone. Three stars for our experience, this was a road trip visit, so the likelihood of a return visit is unlikely. Worth a visit for a drink or two even a quick bite but the food experience needs just a small umph to make it a 5* review

Holiday Inn express is our brand the road. On a recent trip from Michigan to Virginia in mid-July,…read morewe spent the night at the Holiday Inn Express in Winchester Stephens City. It was very disappointing. The first impression was mixed. The reception person was quite friendly and efficient checking us in. But reception area was extremely hot because their air conditioner had failed. We were assigned an "upgraded" room for disabled guests on the first floor. This is not a problem in itself, but this room was in horrible condition. The lighting in the room was so dim we had to pull out our phone flashlights to unpack our suitcases. The window shade was broken. When we attempted to close the shade, the entire shade came off its roller. The television didn't work and the bed had a big in the middle of the mattress. At about 2:30AM, somebody attempted to get into our room. Fortunately the chain was latched and they pulled the door shut again. But it disrupted our night. A call to reception went unanswered. The next morning we were presented with a hot breakfast that seemed like it had been recycled for several days. The scrambled eggs were dry and had burned bits in them. The omelette were so dry that they had a texture of leather. The bacon was out, the biscuit gravy was out and the coffee was so bitter so as to be undrinkable. Box hotel breakfasts can range in quality. We have been to many Holiday Inns and other box hotels where the breakfasts are top notch. This is one reason we choose them. But this breakfast was inedible. There are plenty of hotels in this area outside the beltway. Avoid this one. S&P Hotels who own this hotel and several others in the area should be ashamed of themselves. Mr Hemal Shah, the owner of S&P, needs to be reminded that this hotel is in the US, not in Gujarat.
