Our Lady of Good Counsel High School

After going to good counsel, I can say it's the worst catholic high school to send your child to…read more The "deans" are some of the rudest and careless people you will ever meet and i think everyone at the school would agree. There were times I would say hi to them, and instead of being nice, they would respond rudely or try to find something I was doing wrong. Yes, it is their job, but you can be decent about it. The rules are extremely strict, which caused me to feel anxious just walking into the school, scared I'd mess one thing up. They don't allow you to be on your phone, no matter what time of the school day it is. I received a detention (which is on Saturday mornings) because my mom was texting me about my grandmothers health, updating me on her surgery. They don't care what the reason is, even if it's something understandable. They block cell service throughout the school to prevent this, which is honestly scary if something were to ever happen in the building. The deans make it there lifes goal to shit on every student no matter when or where. Some teachers are very good at good counsel, but many are careless. I had teachers not grade my work for multiple weeks, which caused me to be stressed about my grade the whole quarter. Another thing is that the food is horrible. They make it seem so good during shadow visits, tours, etc. The food is of poor quality, and there were times it wasn't even warm. The school throws problems under the rug that involve staff that affect the students who go there, lying to everyone about the true reasons things happen to make the school seem better. Lying in public announcements and not valuing the catholic values is something good counsel does really well. Sure, they offer mass daily, but the staff lacks in truly keeping the values. The school supports homosexuality to a point where it seems more drastic than public schools. Supporting that as a school is something that should be implied, but the way good counsel does it is too much, which makes students feel uncomfortable. From hearing the staff is seriously considering gender nutural bathrooms and that they have pride flags in rooms within the school is something I do not think a catholic school should promote as much as they do. The future of this school does not look good if you are trying to send your child to a school to avoid these things, which is a reason I went there because they made it seem so different than it is during shadow days and tours.

Good school academically but it is a very elitist and cliquey school. The rules are very strict and…read moreI did not have a great experience as a student there.

Very unprofessional company…read more We don't have comments on this company's services because we didn't end up using them in the first place. Here's why: I purchased a robotics party from this company for my son's birthday in Living Social in February. I confirmed the appointment for the August party with them on March 14. On June 18--three months later, they wrote to inform me that they could not lead the event at our house because their "standard review" revealed that there was too much crime in our neighborhood. (This is Takoma, DC, where the neighborhood kids play outside every day in summer, well into the evening.) They wanted us to rent a DC rec center for the party--rec centers, that is, that have no security at all and very questionable safety. Example: I've observed drug deals and heavy pot smell at one DC rec center and decided that our kids were SAFER not visiting it. There is no mention of this safety policy or practice in the company's Living Social deal or in their website. So beware: Unless you live in a totally safe neighborhood (is there one?), you may be in for additional, unadvertised expenses, if you book a party with them.

Adventures with Robots is on a mission. We aim to bring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to more kids at an earlier age, and we want to make STEM irresistibly FUN, like it should be. Since our founding in September 2010, we've taught more than 1,000 kids in the metro D.C. area how to write their first programs. Through our Young Engineers class, we're introducing students to the basics of structural engineering and physics. Through Crime Science, we've taught more than 100 kids how to use microscopes and other equipment to conduct simple experiments to forensic evidence. In addition to leading after-school and evening science clubs for elementary school students at their schools, we also offer at-cost classes to students who are residents of low-income housing communities managed by Montgomery Housing Partnership.

School kids can be mean, but I was a smartass and gave back as good as I got.  Escalation also happened to and a fight or two occurred.   My parents not happy with my schooling got a second opinion on how learned things. I learned I had dyslexia  and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.  Methylphenidate  better know as Ritalin was something I had to take for a while.  Then one day I stopped taking in and I was fine. There is more to this story, but I am not sure I got the full story from my mom. In short, she didn't want me taking it anymore. If there were side effects from the Methylphenidate, I don't really remember.  When I left Montgomery public schools,  I was introduced to students that had similar problems learning things. Montgomery County Schools weren't  all bad. Students and teachers in both public and private schools can be helpful and trustworthy. They can also be bullies and untrustworthy.   The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. What you get is a mixed bag in education.

This is without question Maryland's most exclusive, hard to get into, magnificent and unknown country club / luxury estate. An absolutely marvelous getaway, you feel as if you are in the rugged confines of a resort in the mountains far way, yet you are esconced wonderfully in the curvaceous bosom of nature somewhere between Rockville Pike and Georgia Avenue. Here's what you get: -100s of acre of magnificent, sylvan, beautiful, unspoiled countryside, peppered with trails, tracks, streams -A pre civil war cemetery to explore -An 1830s water mill - the original Muncaster Mill -The upper reaches of Rock Creek meander through the park with overturned logs for the adventurous to try and cross over on -A wide range of orienteering programs, predator-prey, confidence building and course on the early settlers -Woods, trails, hills, streams, ponds, barns, covered bridges, animals, birds, owls, turkey buzzards, -Magnificently rustic cabin accommodation -A fine kitchen which belts out the finest BBQ chicken, spaghetti and French toast known to man ( not in the same meal) -Friendly, hard working , educated and passionate staff members and teachers.... Here's what you pay for it: -Absolutely Nothing. Zilch. Nada. It's Gratis. Free. And I mean free like in beer, not free like in puppies. Wait - this sounds too good to be true - there has to be a catch..... Oh yeah, there is the mother-of-all-catches..... To really enjoy this you have to be sixth grader in the Montgomery County school system - they each get three days here as a part of the County's absolutely magnificent Outdoor Education program. I volunteered to be one of the parent chaperones this week from Wednesday - Friday. When I recently told a friend I had done that he told me I was crazy and I - or someone else - would probably die. He did it a few years ago with his now- 17 year old and said it was horrible. " Have you any idea how unpleasant it is to be in a cabin with a dozen 12 year olds?" With these words ringing in my ears I was absolutely dreading this trip. Instead it turned out to be amazing - not just because for 2 days I was with Thing 1 and Thing 2 and all their buddies doing lots of cool things in the countryside, but I was also away from TV, internet, phone, BBY, email, distractions, credit card bills, tax documents - It was absolutely magnificent. A huge shout out to the teachers and Outdoor Educators of Montgomery County. This place is phenomenal - it has been going since 1963. And a further shout out to the budget guys - don't stop funding this place! It is absolutely brilliant. By the second day you can already see how the kids are changing, more in tune with the surroundings, paying attention, working together, being considerate. Yeah sure - they are kids and there will be issues, but overall this was a simply magnificent experience.
