(I would say he's the most important tool in your toolbox - but "tool" has some negative connotations, nowadays.) In our first conversation, I just completely unloaded on him (verbally) about things I thought I wanted. He was able to take that information, and he asked some questions. From there, he began working on some plans. I will never know how he managed to create the impossible out of the random information I gave him, but he did. However, he did so much more than just design a house. We discussed the types of insulation to use. I asked questions about grouping all the plumbing together, and he said it could be done, but let's talk to a builder about the cost difference between grouping everything in a small area and positioning things where they made sense. I even asked a question about the location of the dishwasher. He let me know that dishwashers now are quieter than the ones from 25+ years ago, and if it were located on the far wall in the kitchen would be okay - the noise would not be loud enough to disrupt anything going on in the next room. One on the things that really stood out was his willingness and his eagerness to teach. I would ask questions, and he would logically walk me through what I was asking, provide documentation on ALL viewpoints on what I was asking, and allow me to make my own decision. Never once did he roll his eyes at me. (And I gave him PLENTY of reasons to do so!) He was never anything except gracious, kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. Somehow, he's managed to design a forever home for me, a home I can grow with, and grow old(er) with. Mr. Vaughn is truly the best asset you could ever have!

We knew that we wanted a flexible, multi function room, that would capture the feel of being outside, while still protecting us from the elements. Lori was great throughout the entire process. It took a while until she could start working with us, because she is typically pretty busy, but it was very much worth the wait. She was very reachable and responsive. She came out and spoke with our contractor as often as needed, drew up plans, and together with the builder she made sure that our finished room would conform to the local zoning code. She helped us figure out the "big picture" for the overall project, and she also helped with details, such as color scheme and materials. Her design, while very attractive, was also very realistic in terms of function and price. I would definitely recommend her for any project, large or small.

In December of 2021 (16 months later), house plans were finally ready for bidding. They came in at THREE TIMES the budget we gave them. Then they wanted us to pay more so they could work on the design to get it more in line with original expectation. This was after we had already paid the firm $80,000. We decided that would be throwing good money after bad. When we did not agree to pay them more money, they cancelled our contract. Communication was ineffective, at best, but we often felt it was deliberately misleading.
