I am extremely disappointed with the home inspection performed by Steve Kiefer of WIN Home Inspection. Unfortunately, significant defects were missed during the inspection, resulting in more than $10,000 in damage and repair costs that were discovered after the purchase. Most concerning was the failure to identify extensive water damage and evidence of water intrusion in multiple areas of the home. There was also significant water damage to door trim at multiple locations throughout the house that were not identified. These were not isolated or insignificant issues; they were visible indications of water intrusion and damage that I expected a thorough home inspection to identify and document. The inspection also failed to identify active water leaks at a faucet, which should have been observable during the inspection. Additionally, the water softener/treatment system was incorrectly identified as functioning properly. After the purchase, it was discovered that the system was leaking immediately after purchase. This was particularly concerning because the inspection report gave me the impression that the system had been evaluated and was operating properly when it was not. Taken together, these were multiple significant failures involving water intrusion, active leaks, and water-related damage. The cumulative cost of addressing the issues has exceeded $10,000. I hired a professional home inspector specifically to identify problems such as these before completing the purchase. Unfortunately, the inspection did not provide the level of diligence, accuracy, or attention to detail that I expected from a professional inspection. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Steve Kiefer or WIN Home Inspection to other homebuyers. Anyone considering using this inspector should be aware of my experience and should consider obtaining an independent second inspection, particularly for evidence of water intrusion, leaks, and moisture-related damage. read more

We hired WIN Home Inspection for a new construction home. While the inspector was professional and the report appeared detailed, a major issue was completely missed: there was no gas shut-off valve installed for the dryer. This is a standard safety feature and required for installation--yet it wasn't flagged in the inspection. We only found out about the missing valve when our brand new dryer was delivered and couldn't be installed. As a result, everything was left incomplete, and we had to wait weeks for the builder to fix it and reschedule installation. This created unnecessary hassle and delay--exactly what a professional inspection is supposed to help us avoid. Even more concerning, when we brought this to the owner's attention, he tried to claim that a gas shut-off valve is "optional." That is simply not true. It's a basic, required utility connection and a critical safety component. Dismissing it as nonessential is irresponsible and unprofessional. We hired WIN to identify these kinds of issues before taking possession of a not-inexpensive home. This failure defeats the purpose of the service. If you're considering WIN, we strongly recommend confirming in advance how thoroughly they check key utilities and safety components--especially in new builds. read more

My first time using WIN Home Inspection and the work performed seemed to be pretty thorough. Steve the owner and inspector was there on time and ran every appliance, plumbing and electrical outlet in the unit that I'm about to purchase soon. He seemed to be super thorough and even checked a portion of the drywall in the ceiling where there was some questionable work done. He checked it for water damage but said there was none, which put me at ease. He took time to answer my questions and concerns and was done in about 1 hour and a half and emailed me the report about the unit the same day. He was very courteous, professional and knowledgeable. And his service fee seemed reasonable for the work performed. I will most likely use his services again in the near future.
